Prevalence Study Of Feline Ab Blood Types In Bangkok And Vicinities Of Thailand By Rapid Immunochromatographic Test During 2022-2024, Suwarath Wadeerat, Sinittha Thongwandi, Thitima Tripipat, Teerawut Nedumpun Mar 2025

Prevalence Study Of Feline Ab Blood Types In Bangkok And Vicinities Of Thailand By Rapid Immunochromatographic Test During 2022-2024, Suwarath Wadeerat, Sinittha Thongwandi, Thitima Tripipat, Teerawut Nedumpun

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The AB blood group system is a key classification for feline blood types, categorizing them as type A, B, or AB based on red blood cell surface antigens. This study aimed to update the prevalence of feline blood types among domestic and pedigreed cats in Bangkok and vicinities from 2022 to 2024. A total of 114 blood samples, including 76 Domestic Shorthairs (DSH) and 38 pedigreed cats, including 10 breeds, were analyzed using the rapid immunochromatographic feline blood typing. Results revealed that blood type A was predominant, present in 93.86% of cats, consistent with global findings. Blood types B and …

The Relationship Between Periodontal Disease Of Feline And Oral Core Microbiome, Ziyao Zhou Dec 2024

The Relationship Between Periodontal Disease Of Feline And Oral Core Microbiome, Ziyao Zhou

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

The microbiome of the oral cavity is complex with the average adult harboring about 50 to 100 billion bacteria which represent about 200 predominant bacterial species. There are a large number of microbes in the oral cavity of the feline, normally beneficial to oral health and safety maintenance. However, when the balance of bacteria lost, it may occur feline stomatitis and periodontitis, which seriously endanger local oral health. Environmental implication, feeding model, age and genetic factors may be main factors affecting oral composition of microbiome. Filifactor alocis, Porphyromonas gingivals, Tannerella forsythia and their interactions are main pathogen that …

The Role Of Temperature Variation On Macrophage Physiology And Function In Vitro In Mice, Chicken, And Fish, Intisar Abdullah Hassan Aug 2022

The Role Of Temperature Variation On Macrophage Physiology And Function In Vitro In Mice, Chicken, And Fish, Intisar Abdullah Hassan

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Fever is an essential component of the immune response. Baseline body temperatures vary in different species, and fever represents increased temperature over baseline. Fever initiates and enhances immune responses as well as creates an environment in which the body has advantages over pathogens. Macrophages are often the first line of cells that come in contact with pathogens, asthey reside in and traffic through tissues. They are important for their engulfment of pathogens that results in the digestion of the pathogen, and they also produce nitric oxide and cytokines that contribute to immune responses in a variety of ways, including initiating …

Evaluation Of Residual Antibacterial Effects On Canine Skin Surface And Hairs Following Treatment With Five Commercial Mousse Products Against Staphylococcus Pseudintermedius In Vitro, Chi-Yen Wu Jul 2022

Evaluation Of Residual Antibacterial Effects On Canine Skin Surface And Hairs Following Treatment With Five Commercial Mousse Products Against Staphylococcus Pseudintermedius In Vitro, Chi-Yen Wu

LSU Master's Theses

Topical products are essential treatments for canine superficial bacterial folliculitis. However, studies for commercial products typically evaluate antibacterial effects on hairs rather than the skin surface. In addition, the interference from the hair length has not been evaluated in these studies. Therefore, the study objective for this study was to evaluate the residual antibacterial effects of five mousse products, (1) 2% chlorhexidine and 2% miconazole, (2) 0.05% phytosphingosine, (3) 2% salicylic acid and 10% ethyl lactate, (4) 3% chlorhexidine and 0.5% climbazole, and (5) 2% chlorhexidine and 1% ketoconazole on both the skin surface and hairs in both short- and …

Differentiation Of The Can F 1 Allergen In Hypoallergenic Dog Saliva Compared To Shedding Dog Saliva, Rose Miller Apr 2021

Differentiation Of The Can F 1 Allergen In Hypoallergenic Dog Saliva Compared To Shedding Dog Saliva, Rose Miller

Honors College Theses

Dog saliva contains a large variety of proteins, each with specific functions throughout the body. While some aid in digestion, others provide immune support for the body. In the case of human dog allergies, dog skin dander has been proven to cause allergic reactions to those who are sensitive to the allergens in the dogs. However, past studies have shown a difference in allergic reaction to specific breeds, breaking dog breeds into two main categories: hypoallergenic and non-hypoallergenic. Within these groups, there are different hypoallergenicity levels, but overall, the hypoallergenic dog group does not cause an allergic reaction, whereas non-hypoallergenic, …

Characterization Of Memory T-Lymphocyte Subsets In Dogs, Annie Beth Bauman Mar 2021

Characterization Of Memory T-Lymphocyte Subsets In Dogs, Annie Beth Bauman

LSU Master's Theses

A more complete understanding of canine T-cell immunity is necessary for improving diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to canine diseases, developing cell-based canine immunotherapeutics, and evaluating dogs as large mammal models for comparative immunology research. Canine immunological studies are limited by the lack of established phenotypic markers identifying diverse differentiation states in canine T-cells. Differential expression of CD45RA (indicating antigen experience) and CD62L (indicating lymph node homing capability), shows promise as a tool to delineate canine naïve (TN), central memory (TCM), effector memory (TEM), and terminal effector memory (TEMRA) T-cells. The aim of this study was to characterize canine memory T-cell …

The Parasite Giardia, Ashley Anderson Mar 2020

The Parasite Giardia, Ashley Anderson

Honors Program: Senior Projects (Public)

The focus of this research is to better understand how this parasite works. The protozoan Giardia spp is found all over the world and in many species such as dogs, cats, and humans. From its two different forms to the microscopic size of both forms to its ability to destroy intestinal villi and cause symptoms like other parasitic infections, Giardia spp is continuously misdiagnosed. Upon further observation at veterinary clinics and researching science articles, Giardia spp is most commonly found in pets but has the potential to spread to humans via contaminated water. The most commonly infected humans are hikers, …

Environmental Salmonella In Agricultural Fair Poultry Exhibits In Colorado, K. L. Pabilonia, K. J. Cadmus, T. M. Lingus, D. S. Bolte, M. M. Russell, D. C. Van Metre, M. M. Erdman Jan 2014

Environmental Salmonella In Agricultural Fair Poultry Exhibits In Colorado, K. L. Pabilonia, K. J. Cadmus, T. M. Lingus, D. S. Bolte, M. M. Russell, D. C. Van Metre, M. M. Erdman

United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services: Staff Publications

Salmonella enterica is a common zoonotic pathogen in humans. Transmission typically occurs through consumption of contaminated food products or contact with infected animals, including poultry or their environment. The objective of this study was to estimate the frequency of Salmonella contamination in the environment in poultry exhibits at agricultural fairs. Samples were collected from cages, feed, floors and tables in the exhibit and cultured for Salmonella. At least one environmental sample was positive for Salmonella in 10 of 11 fairs (91%), and Salmonella was isolated from 28 of 55 environmental samples (50.9%). Eleven different serotypes were detected. Results of …
