A Case Of Alaria Alata In A Dog, Şinasi Umur

One of the 20 necropsied stray dogs in Kars city was found naturally infected with three adults of Alaria alata (Goeze, 1782). This is the first report of A. alata from dogs in Turkey. The parasites were measured 2.34 (2.27-2.40) mm in length and 1.46 (1.43-1.50) mm in width.

In this case report, a sudden devoloped ventricular fibrillation following Pentothal anaesthesia in a dog and the treatment done was subjected. No abnormal findings were detected according to haemotologic and biochemical tests and ECG obtained at the preoperative period. Blood gases analysis and ECG monitoring were performed before anaesthesia induction for this experimental surgery. After the case was premedicated with Xylazine hydrochlorid (2mg/kg im), anaesthesia was induced by pentothal (Thiopental sodium 15 mg/kg iv). 119 mongrel dogs, brought to Chulalongkorn Veterinary Teaching Hospital, were investigated over a 150-day period. Divided into 4 groups (less than 0.5 yrs, 0.5 to 1.49 yrs, 1.5 to 4.99 yrs, and more than 4.99 yrs) the age of the animals was related to the severity of the accumulated calculi (P<0.05), particularly in the area of the buccal surface. The group, fed on a soft diet, had more calculi deposits than those fed a hard one.

Prepubertal neutering in dogs has both advantages and disadvantages. The advantages include reduction of the incidence of mammary gland neoplasia and reduction of sexual behavior. The disadvantages are elongation of long bone and an inflammation of the external genitalia. Anesthesia of young dog may be more risky than in the adult. Effects of prepubertal neutering on urethral diameter and sex hormone imbalance dermatosis are not well documented. Prepubertal neutering help improving the efficiency of strayed dog control.(การทำหมันสุนัขก่อนวัยเจริญพันธุ์ มีทั้งข้อดีและข้อเสีย ข้อดีคือทำให้อุบัติการการเกิด เนื้องอกเต้านมและพฤติกรรมทางเพศลดลง ข้อเสียคือทำให้กระดูกโครงร่างยาวกว่าปกติ อวัยวะเพศเกิดการอักเสบได้ง่ายเพราะมีขนาดเล็ก และสุนัขอายุน้อยมีความเสี่ยงต่อการวางยาสลบขณะผ่าตัดมากกว่าสุนัขโตเต็มที่ สำหรับผลต่อขนาดของทางเดินปัสสาวะและโรคผิวหนังที่เกิดจากฮอร์โมนเพศไม่สมดุลยังไม่มีการยืนยัน การศึกษาการทำหมันสุนัขก่อนวัยเจริญพันธุ์ใช้เป็นแนวทางในการลดจำนวนสุนัขจรจัด)
