The exercise-induced variations of some biochemical parameters including calcium (Ca), phosphorous (P), iron (Fe), copper (Cu), manganese (Mn), selenium (Se), zinc (Zn), sodium (Na), potassium (K), chlorine (Cl), glucose, urea, creatinine, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and creatine kinase (CK) were assessed in the serum of 25 Arabian horses. Blood samples were taken from the jugular vein 3 different times: before exercise, 5 h after exercise, and 18 h after exercise. Statistical analysis was performed using SAS (version 9.2; SAS Institute, Cary, NC, USA). Ca, Cl, glucose, and urea showed significant (P < 0.05) changes due to exercise. There was significant increase from before exercise to 5 h after exercise in urea concentrations while Ca and Cl concentrations significantly decreased. A significant ascending trend for Ca between 5 h and 18 h after exercise was also seen, while glucose and urea had a significantly descending trend. No significant time-based variations were observed for other variables. The results of the present study indicated that exercise could affect the value of some biochemical parameters, which could be used in future studies evaluating the health status of Arabian horses.

In the present cross-sectional study, eggs collected from retail outlets were analyzed for physicochemical and microbial quality. Comparisons were made between ?sanitized? (cleaned, sanitized, and retailed after packaging) and ?unsanitized? (not subjected to cleaning, sanitization, and packaging) retail table eggs that originated from ?commercial? and ?backyard? (eggs retailed loose without any cleaning, sanitization, or packaging) farms. A total of 1120 eggs collected from retail markets were analyzed for physicochemical (weight, shell thickness, shape, yolk index, albumen index, Haugh unit, color, and pH) and microbial (total viable count, and yeast and mold counts) characteristics. Eggs collected from retail markets were found …

On-Farm Diagnosis Of Latent Respiratory Failure In Calves, Anton Chernitskiy, Sergey Shabunin, Tatiana Kuchmenko, Vladimir Safonov
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The goal of this study was to develop a method for the diagnosis of latent respiratory failure in calves with bovine respiratory disease (BRD) in farm conditions. The study involved 48 calves of the red-motley Holstein breed aged 14-28 days, with no previously experienced BRD, no dyspnea at rest, and a lack of anemia. Group I consisted of 24 calves with spontaneous or induced cough and WI clinical score of ≥5. Group II included 24 calves without spontaneous and induced cough and WI clinical score of ≤3. The determination of respiratory rate (RR), respiratory minute volume, and tidal volume in …

Phenotypic Characterization And Differentiation Of Mesenchymal Stem Cells Originating From Adipose Tissue, Ece Çerçi̇, Hati̇ce Erdost
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Stem cells are known as undifferentiated cells that are capable of divisions and self-renewal over an extended period. Adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs) are known to differentiate into many different organ and tissue cells. The purpose of this study was to characterize adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells in detail based on the expression status of certain surface markers and differentiation stages for clinical and laboratory applications. The migrating phase and mitotic property of the cells from adipose tissue were assessed under a microscope. Cell counting was performed during the first, second, and third passages. The cells were differentiated into …
The Comparing Of Homogenization Methods For Oxidative And Antioxidative Analyses Of Sperm, Ömer Varişli, Numan Akyol
The Comparing Of Homogenization Methods For Oxidative And Antioxidative Analyses Of Sperm, Ömer Varişli, Numan Akyol
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Pretreatment of sperm for oxidative and antioxidative analysis has been shown to be different in studies. These differences can affect the result of analyses. The aim of this study was to compare the analyses of sperm homogenization methods. The semen of four rams were used in the study. Pretreatment procedures included the rotary, bead, and ultrasonic homogenization methods. Oxidative and antioxidative status of sperm samples was assessed by measuring serum lipid hydroperoxide, total oxidant status, free sulfhydryl groups (SH total thiol), ceruloplasmin, and total antioxidant capacity levels. As a result, the homogenization methods before oxidative and antioxidative status analyses significantly …

Animal Remains Of Alaybeyi Höyük, Abu Bakar Siddiq
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
This paper presents the zooarchaeological observations on animal remains of Alaybeyi Höyük unearthed from 2016 and 2017 excavation sessions. Dated to 4721-4553 cal. BC, Alaybeyi stands so far as the oldest archaeological settlement discovered in northeast Anatolia. Therefore, the faunal assemblage at Alaybeyi offers great opportunity to study the status of animals and their relationships with humans in the largely unexplored Kars-Erzurum plateau covering a period from the Chalcolithic to Late Iron Age. Taxonomic and osteometric analyses show that, like the present day, cattle were dominant over caprines, revealing extensive cattle pastoralism in the region for at least about 7 …
