This study aimed to determine the prevalence, types, and risk factors of Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome (EGUS) in non-racing Thoroughbred horses in Thailand. A total of 56 Thoroughbreds, aged 5 to 22 years (mean age: 12.43 ± 4.65 years), were included. Before sedation, a comprehensive history and physical examination were conducted. Gastroscopy was performed to identify gastric ulcers, using the Equine Gastric Ulcer Council 0–4 scoring system for non-glandular ulcers, while glandular ulcers were assessed as present or absent. This study identifies and characterizes a spirurid in a wild Sunda pangolin (Manis javanica) using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Native to Southeast Asia, the Sunda pangolin faces critical threats from poaching, illegal trafficking for its scales and meat, habitat loss, urban conflicts, and disease. Despite this, little is known about the biology of wild Sunda pangolins. In this research, spirurid parasites were recovered from a pangolin fatally injured in a vehicular collision. The parasites were preserved and analyzed with SEM, revealing key morphological features such as papillae, lip-like structures, and an anal opening in females. This study enhances …

Protective antibody against classical swine fever virus (CSFV) is an important parameter used for disease monitoring in CSFV-endemic areas. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) is a simple and practical serological assay for CSFV antibody detection. However, the use of CSFV ELISAs in CSFV antibody-positive herds, i.e., CSFVvaccinated or -previously infected herds, was limited by an application of the test results. African swine fever (ASF) is a lethal haemorrhagic disease affecting domestic and wild pigs, causing severe economic losses globally. The absence of an effective vaccine has hindered ASF control, as traditional approaches are challenged by the virus’s genetic complexity and immune evasion mechanisms. In this study, we employed immunoinformatics to design a multi-epitope vaccine (MEV) against African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV), targeting conserved viral proteins—B646L (p72), CP204L (p30), E183L (p54), and EP402R (CD2v). This study investigated whether aging and uterine pathology drive fibrosis in the canine uterus by quantifying collagen deposition in endometrial and myometrial compartments. Uterine samples from 55 small-sized, intact, nulliparous bitches were classified into five groups according to age and pathological conditions. Healthy group divided into juvenile, young adult, old adult, and the pathological group included cystic endometrial hyperplasia (CEH), and pyometra. Fibrosis was assessed using Masson’s trichrome staining; collagen proportion was quantified with ImageJ and analysed in SAS. Across healthy age groups, collagen proportions in the endometrial stroma, circular myometrium, and longitudinal myometrium did not differ significantly (P > 0.05). …

This study aimed to investigate the expression patterns of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα) in normal tissue and feline mammary carcinomas. Thirty feline mammary carcinomas (FMCs) and eight normal mammary tissues were used in this study. In the same FMC cats, tissues were collected from 2 regions which are the neoplastic tissue and the adjacent non-neoplastic tissues. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a highly prevalent condition in intact male dogs. However, its diagnosis and clinical management remain limited by the lack of clear thresholds for clinically significant prostatic enlargement, insufficient biomarkers to monitor treatment response, and an incomplete understanding of the molecular mechanisms driving disease progression. To address these gaps, this thesis integrated ultrasonographic, biochemical, and proteomic approaches across three complementary studies. Solid waste disposal sites (SWS) at forest edges represent critical zoonotic transmission hotspots where wildlife, domestic animals, and humans converge. This study characterized host community structure, pathogen circulation, and network topology at SWS adjacent to the Dong Phayayen-Khao Yai Forest Complex, Thailand. Three study phases (2021-2023) comprised: (1) camera trapping at five SWS (3,907 trap-nights); (2) small mammal trapping across four habitats (1,420 individuals, 12 species), ectoparasite collection (20,560 chiggers, 14 species), and molecular pathogen detection; and (3) network analysis of connectivity among habitat, host, chigger, and pathogen. Induction of ovulation in pigs is a widely applied technique in commercial swine farms, using hormonal treatments to improve reproductive efficiency and productivity. The GnRH agonist buserelin acetate is widely used to induce ovulation and can be administered via intramuscular or intravaginal routes. However, the success of ovulation induction via the intravaginal route still depends on several factors, and information regarding the pharmacokinetics and tissue permeation of buserelin remains limited. Atypical Porcine Pestivirus (APPV) is an emerging swine pathogen associated with congenital tremor (CT) Type A-II, a neurological condition characterized by tremors of the head, body, and limbs, as well as poor growth in piglets. From September 2023 to August 2025, nasal and blood samples were collected from 181 pigs from four commercial pig farms in Central Thailand, and APPV was detected in 17 samples. This study investigates severe, recurrent mortality outbreaks in farmed snakeskin gourami (Trichopodus pectoralis) in central Thailand between 2021 and 2023. Characterized by exophthalmos and systemic hemorrhage, these incidents prompted an investigation to identify causative agents, assess antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and explore genomic adaptation. Bacterial isolates from moribund fish in Samut Sakhon province were identified via MALDI-TOF MS and 16S rRNA sequencing, followed by whole-genome sequencing (Illumina HiSeq) and comparative pan-genomic analysis. Two primary pathogens, Streptococcus agalactiae and Streptococcus suis, were confirmed as causative agents of acute bacterial septicemia, occurring in both single and co-infections. This article describes a Rough-legged Buzzard (Buteo lagopus) from the Wildlife Nature Reserve in Daqing, China. According to the staff of Daqing Wildlife Nature Reserve, the Rough-legged Buzzard was found to have impaired flight ability, depression, and loss of aggression, but its feathers were full and there were no obvious external injuries, so it was sent to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of the Teaching Animal Hospital of Heilongjiang Bayi Agricultural University for treatment. Aldabra giant tortoises (Aldabrachelys gigantea), well-known pet tortoises worldwide, were classified as Appendix II by The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). This study aims to investigate the hematological, blood biochemical, and cytochemical characteristics of blood cells in healthy Aldabra giant tortoises in captivity. Blood samples were collected from the dorsal tail vein of 12 tortoises (6 males and 6 females) during May and October 2022. This study examined the impact of intramuscular administration of tolfenamic acid 10 min before artificial insemination (AI) on serum PGF2α levels and reproductive performance in gilts and sows. In Experiment I, 20 gilts were divided into two groups: control (n = 10) and treatment (n = 10). Serum samples were collected 30 min before and after insemination to measure PGF2α levels. Oocyte cryopreservation is a crucial technique for preserving the genetic material of female cats, yet maintaining post-thaw oocyte developmental competence remains a significant challenge. This study investigated the impact of intra- and extracellular trehalose on the developmental competence of feline oocytes following cryopreservation. In Experiment 1, immature feline oocytes were matured in vitro (IVM) with varying concentrations (0, 1.5, and 3 mM) of intracellular trehalose hexaacetate (Tre-(OAc)6). Ovum pick-up (OPU) is a repeatable technique that is used for the retrieval of large numbers of immature oocytes from the antral follicles of live animals. The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of repeated OPU application on cumulus-oocyte complex (COC) number, oocyte quality, and blastocyst rates. Surgery must often be performed in fields where only simple equipment and facilities are available for cattle practice, and anesthesia with minimal procedures should be improved for sufficient surgery in the field and on farms. The study aimed to investigate total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) using xylazine and propofol to improve the anesthesia protocol for field surgeries in calves on farms. A 2-year-old, castrated male Jindo dog presented with 6 days of penile swelling and protrusion, suggesting priapism. Blood gas was analyzed by aspirating the corpus cavernosum to differentiate the type. However, the results were ambiguous. Ultrasound and computed tomography revealed a well-encapsulated mass ventral to the urethra. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a mass (T2-hyperintense, T1-hypointense, with no contrast enhancement) located ventral to the urethra. Cytology revealed only red blood cells, confirming a hematoma. Penile hematoma mimicking priapism was diagnosed. After 11 weeks of glucocorticoid administration, the hematoma and the protruded penis resolved. This case suggests that penile hematoma can be …

The aim of this study is to provide descriptive and analytical epidemiological data and to evaluate the influence of infection with these two viruses on the onset of diarrhea in calves less than 60 days old. Transcatheter edge-to-edge mitral valve repair (TEER) for the correction of mitral regurgitation (MR) due to myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) stage B1 in a dog by a hybrid intervention technique via minithoracotomy was first reported in Thailand and Southeast Asia. The dog did not show any clinical signs related to congestive heart failure (CHF). Physical examination revealed systolic murmur grade III/VI. Electrocardiographs were recorded and showed normal sinus rhythm. A thoracic radiograph revealed normal size and shape of the heart (VHS 10.9) and diffuse bronchial pattern in the lungs. A 10-year-old sterilized female DSH cat was referred to the Small Animal Teaching Hospital (SATH), Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University for diagnosis and treatment. This study aimed to determine the optimal concentration of mulberry leaf powder (MLP) supplementation and to evaluate the impact of different seasons on the growth performance, carcass characteristics, and blood lipid levels of Pradu-Hang-Dam chickens. One-week-old chickens were assigned to three groups: a control group (without MLP) and two groups receiving diets supplemented with 0.5% and 1.5% MLP, respectively, over a 10-week period. The results indicated that during the cool season, the control group exhibited the highest feed intake, average daily gain, and superior carcass characteristics (P < 0.05). In the rainy season, chickens supplemented with 1.5% MLP achieved the highest feed intake, while those supplemented with 0.5% MLP showed the highest average daily gain and the lowest feed conversion ratio (P < 0.05). Furthermore, the 1.5% MLP group demonstrated superior carcass characteristics compared to the control group during the rainy season (P < 0.05). Analysis of blood lipid metabolism revealed that the group supplemented with 0.5% MLP during the cool season had the lowest levels of triglycerides, cholesterol, and high-density lipoprotein. In conclusion, the cool season is the most favorable for raising Pradu-Hang-Dam chickens in Thailand. Additionally, supplementing diets with at least 0.5% MLP during the rainy season can improve growth performance, carcass characteristics, and blood parameters.

Thirty Acinetobacter baumannii from animal origins were obtained from 210 animal carcasses submitted for post-mortem examination, including dogs (n=112), cats (n=45), rabbits (n=17), birds (n=15), pigs (n=7) and exotic animals (n=14). All the isolates were evaluated for antimicrobial susceptibility with absence and presence of efflux inhibitors i.e. reserpine and carbonyl cyanide m-chlorophenylhydrazone (CCCP) and expression profile of important six multidrug efflux systems (i.e. AdeABC, AdeDE, AdeFGH, AdeIJK, AbeM and AmvA). A 23kg, 12-year-old intact male Siberian Husky crossbred dog was brought to the animal hospital on October 25, 2020 due to sudden anorexia, vomiting and praying posture for two days. After physical examination, completed blood count (CBC), serum biochemistry profile, canine SNAP cPL test, abdominal radiography and ultrasonography were performed for differential diagnosis. According to clinical symptoms, medical history, and diagnostic test results, it was diagnosed as acute pancreatitis (AP).
