Genu Recurvatum In Dance Training: Assessing And Addressing The Structural Deformity In Dancers, Anne Mercedes Mushrush
Genu Recurvatum In Dance Training: Assessing And Addressing The Structural Deformity In Dancers, Anne Mercedes Mushrush
Undergraduate Honors Thesis Collection
Genu recurvatum is a medical condition in which the knee curves baac kwar d past the normal range of extension predominantly in the sagittal plane. Hyperextension can be attributed to extra laxity in the body, therefore the surrounding ligaments of the knee allow for the femur and tibia to be placed past a sagittal alignment of 180°, which is the possible knee extension of normal knee alignment. Genu recurvatum, medically viewed as a deformity, is desirable and considered a positive attribute in the dance world, especially classical ballet. Hyperextension also makes the line of the leg appear longer and straighter …

Intravascular Atp And The Regulation Of Blood Flow And Oxygen Delivery In Humans, Anne R. Crecelius, Brett S. Kirby, Frank A. Dinenno
Health and Sport Science Faculty Publications
Regulation of vascular tone is a complex response that integrates multiple signals which allow for blood flow and oxygen supply to appropriately match oxygen demand. Here, we discuss the potential role of intravascular ATP as a primary factor in these responses and propose that deficient ATP release may contribute to impairments in vascular control exhibited in aged and diseased populations.
Should Educators Be ‘Wrapping School Playgrounds In Cotton Wool’ To Encourage Physical Activity? Exploring Primary And Secondary Students’ Voices From The School Playground, Brendon P. Hyndman, Amanda Telford
Should Educators Be ‘Wrapping School Playgrounds In Cotton Wool’ To Encourage Physical Activity? Exploring Primary And Secondary Students’ Voices From The School Playground, Brendon P. Hyndman, Amanda Telford
Australian Journal of Teacher Education
Physical activity in school playgrounds has changed considerably over recent decades to reflect a climate of ‘surplus safety’. A growing culture of surplus safety can be attributed to a desire of parents and teachers responsible for children to protect school students from danger. The aim of this research was to examine students’ perceptions of playground safety influences on physical activity during school breaks from the perspectives of the ‘users’ of school playgrounds. Data collection consisted of seven focus groups (4 primary school & 3 secondary school) conducted across four schools (2 primary & 2 secondary). During this study, the focus …

Honors Projects
The most common pain runners experience is associated with the knee joint. However, if you do an Internet search for “knee pain,” there is no telling what will come up or how accurate the information might be. On the other hand, scouring research articles for more fact-based recommendations can be time consuming and confusing. With this guide, the research has been done for you and a list of references is readily available at the end of the document if you want to look further into a specific topic. You shouldn’t need a degree in exercise science or anatomy to have …

Bone Strength, Load Tolerance And Injury Risk In Elite Australian Football, Nicolas H. Hart
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
A paucity of research exists to characterise and investigate lower-body musculoskeletal characteristics and morphological adaptations in elite Australian Footballers with the aim to improve screening, monitoring and load management practices. Given the high prevalence of lower-body skeletal injuries in Australian Football; and the ability to measure, modify and train muscle and bone strength and their derivatives; this project served to extend scientific understanding of musculoskeletal morphology and bone strength characteristics in elite level field-based team sport athletes through a series of research studies using Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA) and peripheral Quantitative Computed Tomography (pQCT). In particular, studies one and two …
The Development Of An Objective Multi-Dimensional Approach To Talent Identification In Junior Australian Football, Carl T C Woods
The Development Of An Objective Multi-Dimensional Approach To Talent Identification In Junior Australian Football, Carl T C Woods
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
Talent identification (TID) is a pertinent component of the sports science discipline given the considerable influence it may have within the pursuit of excellence. Thus, research has attempted to identify the determinants of a talented performance through the use of objective testing procedures. However, many of these ‘traditional’ approaches have been operationalised by mono-dimensional objective physical performance tests that do not inherently account for the multi-dimensional requisites of game-play, particularly within a team sporting context. This is problematic when attempting to identify talent, as a successful performance in team sports is often the combination of physical, technical and tactical elements. …

2-Dimension Analysis Of Frontal Plane Projection Angle In Female Soccer Athletes, Kylee M. Tuchfarber
2-Dimension Analysis Of Frontal Plane Projection Angle In Female Soccer Athletes, Kylee M. Tuchfarber
Undergraduate Distinction Papers
Research has found a variety of mechanisms for ACL injuries. One mechanism that has been found is a decreased valgus control at the knee. One study found that that “the decreased active and passive controls of knee alignments may destabilize the knee and are purported to be measures related to increased risk of ACL injury in female athletes, as they mature” (Myer, Ford, Khoury, Succop, & Hewett, 2011, 248). The age of the subjects (12-16) is important because maturation may be a contributing cause of knee abduction moments (KAM). Three-dimensionalanalysis has been said to be the “gold standard” when analyzing …

The Effect Of Β-Hydroxy-Β-Methylbutyrate (Hmb) Supplementation On Neuromuscular Performance Following Fatiguing Exercise In Healthy Subjects, Jordon W. Macht
Theses and Dissertations--Kinesiology and Health Promotion
Supporters of a nutritional supplement, β-Hydroxy-β-Methylbutyrate (HMB) supplementation, claim that it will increase the muscular strength gains and lean muscle mass gains seen during a resistance training program. It has been suggested that HMB supplementation does this by preventing muscle damage or by regenerating damaged muscle cell membranes. However, no research has evaluated the effect of HMB supplementation on low frequency fatigue. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine if three weeks of HMB supplementation could attenuate the effects of low frequency fatigue caused by eccentric muscle contractions of the tibialis anterior muscle. A total of 33 healthy …

Active Landing Velocity: "Pawing Motion", Erin Dean Blind
Graduate Research Papers
The significance of this study is to newly examine a factor of sprint performance. Previous studies have examined the limiting factor of vertical force of contact during a sprint. Studies have yet to look at the horizontal velocity of the foot with respect to the center of mass prior to contact in a sprint. This study will look at this horizontal velocity to examine if that is also a limiting factor during the sprint. Past studies have shown that vertical forces of sprinters are as big two to three times the body weight during a sprint then when trying to …
