Occupational Therapy's Role In Supporting Sustainable Trauma-Informed Wellness Practices In A Surfing Program For Women, Margaret J. O'Hara
Entry-Level Occupational Therapy Doctorate - Doctoral Capstone Symposium
Individuals living with trauma-related mental health conditions are often less participatory in meaningful occupations. Additionally, women are two to three times as likely as men to experience a trauma-related mental health condition or event (Olff, 2017). A local surf therapy organization was founded to provide local women who have experienced trauma an empowering community and meaningful activity to heal. The purpose of this quality improvement capstone experience was to enhance the sustainability of the skills taught within clinics through the creation and dissemination of a user-friendly resource platform. The skills specifically addressed are 1) Mindfulness, 2) Growth Mindset, 3) Comfort …

The Athletic Training Milestones (AT Milestones) were developed as an evaluation tool to capture the breadth and depth of athletic training knowledge, skills, and behavior. However, it is unclear whether athletic training programs are implementing this tool or how they are implementing it to gauge the clinical progression of students or residents in athletic training. We aimed to explore the perceptions and use of the AT Milestones among educators in athletic training programs. We used a cross-sectional, web- based survey with open-ended questions to collect data from athletic training programs on if and how they implement the AT Milestones at …

T1D is considered an autoimmune disease in which the pancreas is unable to produce insulin to balance blood glucose levels. Research has shown that type 1 diabetes is also the result of an autoimmune reaction that induces the destruction to the pancreatic betacells in the pancreas, which produce insulin (Rodbard, 2017). HIIT is a style of exercise that has gained popularity throughout the 2010s (Ito, 2019). HIIT involves a series of anaerobic exercises at high intensity levels (>80% of VO2 peak) (Lee, A., Johnson, N., McGill, M., & Overland, J., 2020).
