Cerebral palsy (CP) is a condition of movement and function disorders in children that requires continuous physiotherapy. One factor in the successful development of children with CP is the existence of a home program/independent therapy carried out by parents at home. In providing the home program, physiotherapists at YPCP Surabaya gave leaflets to parents. However, this was less effective because it was easily damaged, so the home program media was replaced with video. The effectiveness of both in increasing parental compliance in carrying out the home program every day is not yet known. Objective: to find out the difference in …

Phenylketonuria (PKU) is a rare amino acid metabolism genetic disorder. Tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4) metabolism defects cause variant PKU. BH4 coenzyme deficiency disables phenylalanine metabolism into tyrosine, causing brain damage and intellectual impairment. Patients follow a low-phenylalanine diet for life, increasing the risk of obesity, hypertension, and metabolic syndrome. A 24-year-old male patient with BH4 deficiency underwent a pulmonary function test and cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET). Forced vital capacity (FVC) and forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) were within normal values, with an 80.68% ratio. The 20-watt bicycle exercise test indicated moderate functional impairment (27.3 ml/kg/min of peak oxygen intake). The …

Pseudomeningocele Following Traumatic Brachial Plexus Injury: A Case Report, Shih-Ting Huang, Ming-Hsun Lee, Simon-Fuk Tan Tang, Ching-Yu Wang, Yu-Ting Hsieh
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
An injury to the brachial plexus can lead to the development of a pseudomeningocele, a buildup of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the subarachnoid space caused by tears in the affected root sleeves. External forces acting on the brachial plexus represent the main mechanism of injury. The resulting stretching and tearing of the meninges outside the nerve root led to the pseudomeningocele. Although often initially asymptomatic, a pseudomeningocele can eventually cause pain, paresthesia, muscle weakness, and paralysis. The nerve conduction studies (NCS), electromyography (EMG), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can be used to identify the injury, and treatment can involve either …
