Cytomegalovirus Infection Complicated With Severe Rhabdomyolysis And Dysphagia: A Casereport And Literature Reviewarticle, Heng-An Yeh, Yu-Jen Chen, Jean-Lon Chen
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Cytomegalovirus(CMV) is a common virus that usually occurs in immunocompromised patients. After primary infection with CMV, the virus becomes latent in multiple organs and can later be reactivated during severe immune system dysregulation. Rhabdomyolysis is a disease of human muscle cell necrosis, and the rapid dissolution of damaged or injured muscles may lead to acute kidney injury or multiple organ failure. After reviewarticleing relevant literature, patients with severe rhabdomyolysis caused by CMV infection are rarely reported and even less commonly, CMV leads to severe dysphagia. The patient was a 35-year-old woman without underlying disease. Two months before hospitalization, she visited the …
Is Vertical Orientation Ability And Visual Feedback Training Strategy Useful For Pusher Syndrome After Stroke: A System Reviewarticle, Chien-Hsun Lee
Is Vertical Orientation Ability And Visual Feedback Training Strategy Useful For Pusher Syndrome After Stroke: A System Reviewarticle, Chien-Hsun Lee
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Stroke patients with pusher syndrome (PS) have a longer recovery time than those without this disorder. This special syndrome causes difficulty in maintaining balance when sitting or standing, with sufferers "pushing and leaning" automatically to hemi-side. PS patients may also have cognition impairment, hemi-neglect, or aphasia. Alleviating all these factors requires extensive training for therapists, however, few undergo such training. Wang et. al. published a reviewarticle article in Taiwan Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2005, and the conclusions drawn were: 1) PS patients have abnormal subjective posture and vertical orientation ability; 2) training strategies that use visual feedback …

Lifestyle Management For Vestibular Disorders, Michelle Pock
Student Capstone Papers
Individuals with vestibular disorders have concerns that impact lifestyle including limiting activities of daily living, limiting participation in social events, difficulty driving, and difficulty working (Cohen, 2014). Occupational therapists are able to help individuals with vestibular disorders by task analyzing symptom provoking activities, assessing the impact of symptoms on occupations, providing adaptations, and providing ways to modify environments (Gronski, Neville, Kannenberg, & Cohen, 2017). While occupational therapists are qualified to provide services to sustain and improve the occupational performance of individuals with vestibular disorders, occupational therapy is not well represented in this area particularly in addressing lifestyle components for vestibular …

Structural And Tissue-Level Adaptations Of Lumbar Intervertebral Discs In Humans With Inducible Low Back Pain Symptoms, Christian Isaiah Weber
McKelvey School of Engineering Graduate Student Theses & Dissertations
Low back pain (LBP) is a devastating musculoskeletal ailment that impacts majority of the global population. Up to 95% of cases are considered nonspecific where the origin is unclear. Although there is a diagnosis with these cases, there lacks specificity that would help individuals with treatment and pain management. Imaging techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are primarily utilized in the diagnosis of LBP as it illuminates internal structures of the spine. One important structure clearly identified with MRI is the intervertebral disc (IVD) that is susceptible to injury and disease. Further, diagnostic imaging is performed lying down where …
