In recent decades, a topic of concern that has gained attention in the United States and throughout the world is violence against women. Surveys conducted nationally have found that there is a correlation between which racial group a woman identifies as and her likelihood to be victimized at some point in her life. American Indian/Alaskan Native women, in particular, are impacted by violence at disproportionate rates. APOs can be characterized by elevated levels of a circulating Fms-like tyrosine kinase biomarker called Flt-1, produced by the placenta when its blood vessels are shallow or inadequately formed. Flt-1 acts directly on the maternal endothelium to impair vascular function during pregnancy and contributes to maternal features of APOs. We studied neurodevelopmental outcomes and behaviours in healthy 2-year old children (N = 1306) from Brazil, India, Italy, Kenya and the UK participating in the INTERGROWTH-21^st Project. There was a positive independent relationship of duration of exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) and age at weaning with gross motor development, vision and autonomic physical activities, most evident if children were exclusively breastfed for ≥7 months or weaned at ≥7 months. There was no association with cognition, language or behaviour. Children exclusively breastfed from birth to6 months had, in a dose-effect pattern, adjusting for confounding factors, higher scores for "emotional reactivity". The positive …

Urinary incontinence (UI) is common in women and is often associated with decreased quality of life. It is important to consider a range of wide differential diagnoses when evaluating a patient presenting with presumed with UI. This case describes a patient referred to urogynecology for urinary incontinence caused by a common, benign and usually asymptomatic gynecologic condition: nabothian cysts. However, based on presentation and imaging, there was concern about a more serious condition: adenoma malignum. This case emphasizes the importance of considering a wide range of differential diagnoses and describes several important differential diagnoses associated with urinary incontinence.

This brief presents findings from two models of workers’ health education programs implemented by the Evidence Project/Population Council in Egypt. The two interventions aimed to increase family planning (FP) service demand among young people aged 18–35 in Port Said and urban Souhag. In Port Said, male and female factory workers who were trained as peer educators shared family planning/reproductive health (FP/RH) information with fellow factory workers, distributed communication materials, and provided referrals to infirmary nurses trained in FP counseling. This brief provides an overview of the community health system in Bangladesh. Bangladesh is divided into eight administrative divisions, 64 districts, and 545 subdistricts, known as upazilas. Each rural area within an upazila is divided into union parishads and mouzas, which are further divided into villages. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has an extensive health infrastructure that is pluralistic and follows the country’s administrative pattern. CASE: A 23-year old gravida 0 presented as a new patient to her gynecologist with complaints of irregular menses. A pelvic ultrasound showed ascites and the ovaries appeared heterogenous with irregular borders. A CA125 was 432. The patient was taken to the operating room by gynecologic oncology for a diagnostic laparoscopy. Biopsies were taken and final pathology resulted as "diffuse granulomatous inflammation." Post-operatively, the etiology remained unknown. The patient was brought back to the office for more testing. She tested positive for Chlamydia and was diagnosed with pelvic inflammatory disease.

This study aimed to examine the risk factors of childhood undernutrition in Indonesia. Determinants of childhood stunting were examined by using the 2013 Indonesia Basic Health Research Survey dataset. A total of 76,165 children aged under 5 years were included in this study. The analysis used multivariate multilevel logistic regression to determine adjusted odds ratios (aORs). The prevalence of stunting in the sample population was 36.7%. The objective of this study was to characterize exposures to metals using biological samples collected on socioeconomically disadvantaged black pregnant women. We obtained 131 anonymous urine samples provided by black pregnant women visiting a Medicaid-serving prenatal clinic in Houston, TX, from March 27, 2017 to April 11, 2017. We analyzed urine samples for 15 metals including cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), lead (Pb), and nickel (Ni) and for creatinine and cotinine. We found that median concentrations of zinc (Zn), selenium (Se), and aluminum (Al) among black pregnant women in this study were 1.5 to 3 times higher than levels reported among …

Methods: This mixed methods study aimed to understand health care provider perceptions and patient experiences with endometriosis in the United States. A subset of providers also participated in short, open-ended interviews about treating patients who have or are suspected to have endometriosis. Background: Food access is a key social determinant of health for older adults at high risk of chronic disease and physical disability.

Methods: This cross-sectional analysis examined correlates of food access and the relationship between food access and food consumption characteristics in a sample of 316 late midlife women from Southeast Michigan in 2015-2016.

Results: Lack of food access, defined as access to self-perceived adequate grocery shopping resources in one’s neighborhood, was reported by 20.9% of women. Women who reported lack of food access were less likely to report making meals at home (p=0.02) and had less frequent consumption of …
