Family Planning And Population: A Compendium Of International Statistics, John A. Ross, W. Parker Mauldin, Vincent C. Miller

Poverty, Gender, and Youth

This volume provides statistics on all large-scale family planning (FP) programs in the developing world, together with selected demographic and socioeconomic statistics. Time trends are given for some indicators, and data are arranged for comparative analysis across countries. Where available, time trends go back to the mid-1980s. This volume’s predecessor, published in 1992, should be consulted for earlier demographic and socioeconomic data, and for tables on maternal and child health indicators that are not repeated here. The data on FP programs come from a series of three questionnaires sent since 1987 to 100 developing countries, which have generally been kept …

Hospital Patients' And Nurses' Perceptions Of Quality, June Hansen Larrabee Jun 1992

Hospital Patients' And Nurses' Perceptions Of Quality, June Hansen Larrabee

Theses and Dissertations (ETD)

Hospital quality assurance programs have been provider-oriented, focusing on structure and process elements of care rather than outcomes specific to patient needs and values. This study tested the relationship between quality and value, proposed in Larrabee's model of quality, by developing prediction indices for patient and nurse quality and value.

The sample consisted of 199 adult patients. Patient quality was measured by a 100 mm visual analog scale (VAS) (PQUALG) and a modified version of an existing instrument (PQUALT). Patient value was measured as patient goal achievement (PGOAL), the average of three VAS scores for patient defined goals …

The study investigated: the concordance rates of clinical recommendation for treatment and the outcome of the commitment hearing. the time lapse between detention of an individual and the hearing outcome. the presenting symptomatology and outcome. and the pre-detention compliance to treatment and outcome. The study's findings showed a concordance rate of 64% between clinical recommendation and outcome. It provided no significant differences in symptomatology/outcome, compliance/outcome, and time lapse/outcome. The lack of any significant findings seems to suggest that application of commitment laws might benefit from institution …

Control Of Hospital Strategy In Small Multihospital Systems, Lora Hanson Warner Jan 1987

Control Of Hospital Strategy In Small Multihospital Systems, Lora Hanson Warner

Theses and Dissertations

Hospitals are joining multihospital systems (MHSs) with growing frequency. About 80% of MHSs are small, composed of 2-7 hospitals. An important management issue in MHSs is the extent to which member hospitals retain control over their own strategic directions.

Using a contingency framework, this study uses both system and hospital—level determinants to explain the extent to which hospital members of MHSs control their own strategies. Survey and secondary data from 272 member hospitals of 62 small multi hospital systems (size 2-7 hospitals) are analyzed. System dispersion, size, ownership, strategic type, and age along with hospital occupancy, size, relationship to the …

Community & Environmental Health Theses & Dissertations

In assessing professional caregivers of Alzheimer's Disease victims, this study tested whether, 1) knowledge would influence perceptions of burden in providing care to such patients, and if 2) individual locus of control would influence perceptions of burden in caring for; Alzheimer's I patients.
