Introduction: As healthcare costs continue to rise, and with the growing awareness of the potential harms of polypharmacy, there is an ongoing need to explore strategies to optimize medication use in hospice settings. Strategies include deprescribing and medication substitutions, which ensure the safety and comfort of patients but can also lead to significant medication cost reduction.
Objectives: The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of the MyMetRx program on medication cost reduction and medication substitutions within the context of Catholic Hospice. The program aimed to optimize medication …

Interrogating Race And Place-Based Inequities In Hiv And Covid-19, Rohan Khazanchi
EMET Projects
Over the last four years, I have developed a research focus examining the intersections of race, place, and health. My M.D. Honors Thesis reflects a snapshot of these efforts. In this collection of brief research reports, I leverage area-based measures to investigate structural inequities in three contexts: the HIV epidemic in our hyperlocal community, the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, and clinical trials for novel COVID-19 therapeutics. I apply novel social epidemiologic tools to measure and explore disparate outcomes. And, in reflecting upon my findings, I discuss concrete implications for clinicians, researchers, and policymakers alike.

Evaluation Of Antibiotic Use And Duration For Febrile Neutropenia, Kayla Jensen, Patricia Aubert, Joy Ward, Ann Wigton
Pharmacy Posters
Introduction:
- Febrile neutropenia (FN) affects over 80% of patients with hematologic cancer and 10% to 50% of patients with solid tumors
- National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines recommend empiric broad-spectrum monotherapy until the absolute neutrophil count (ANC) is over 500 cells/uL.
- Extended durations with broad-spectrum agents leads to increased risk of antibiotic resistance, toxicity and C. difficile infection.
Purpose
- To evaluate antibiotic prescribing patterns for patients with FN to optimize antibiotic stewardship.

This paper discusses the purchasing of pharmaceuticals as a key component of costeffective and equitable healthcare delivery. Pharmaceuticals account for a high, sometimes the dominant share of health expenditures in developing countries, but the desired health outcomes can only be achieved if the adequate medicines reach the right people and are used in the correct way. This requires purchasing arrangements that take into account the information asymmetry between patients and providers, ensure selection of effective, safe and affordable medicines and set economic incentives in a way that encourages rational drug use. The organizational and institutional frameworks define the roles of …
