Drug Repositioning Based On Centrality Measures Of Drug Side Effects Network, Keng Ying Ying Mar 2021

Drug Repositioning Based On Centrality Measures Of Drug Side Effects Network, Keng Ying Ying

Student Works (2020-2029)

Drug repositioning, the process of discovering new therapeutic uses of existing drugs, is an alternative to the risky, costly, and time-consuming traditional drug discovery process. Based on the hypothesis that drugs with similar side effects may share similar therapeutic indications, a network of drugs is constructed based on their side-effect similarities. Then, for a target disease of concern, the potential drug candidates that may be repurposed for treating it can be identified from among the network neighbors of the existing drugs approved for the disease. By applying three classic centrality measures – degree, closeness, and betweenness – to rank the …

Understanding Molecular Interaction Between Sulfadoxine And Human Serum Albumin Through Spectroscopic And Molecular Docking Methods, Jaslene Anne Francis Feb 2021

Understanding Molecular Interaction Between Sulfadoxine And Human Serum Albumin Through Spectroscopic And Molecular Docking Methods, Jaslene Anne Francis

Student Works (2020-2029)

The main aim of this study was to characterize the molecular interaction between sulfadoxine (SDN) and the major transport protein in the blood plasma, human serum albumin (HSA) using fluorescence, absorption, circular dichroism and voltammetric techniques along with computational methods. SDN-induced changes in the fluorescence intensity of HSA hinted the complex formation between SDN and HSA. Both values of the bimolecular quenching rate constant and UV-Vis absorption spectral results characterized the quenching of HSA fluorescence as static quenching. Analysis of the quenching results showed a moderate binding affinity (Ka = 3.39×104 M‒1 at 300 K) between SDN and HSA. Thermodynamic …

Formulation And Characterization Of Beeswax/Rosemary Oil Nanostructured Lipid Carrier For Drug Delivery System, Mohd Latif Farhanim Jan 2021

Formulation And Characterization Of Beeswax/Rosemary Oil Nanostructured Lipid Carrier For Drug Delivery System, Mohd Latif Farhanim

Student Works (2020-2029)

A stable colloidal suspension of nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) was synthesized from natural source of lipid. The toxicity and insolubility of drugs in water remain a significant problem and has led to the development of food-grade drug delivery systems such as nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs). NLCs composing various amount of beeswax (BW), rosemary oil (RO) and poloxamer 188 (P188) were prepared by melt-emulsification combined with ultrasonication method. The physicochemical properties of NLC also were determined. Optimization of the formulation (F) was performed based on the criteria of stability. Formulation with the smallest particle size and highest magnitude of zeta potential …

Investigating The Effect Of Khat (Catha Edulis) On Selected Obesity Markers And Pathways In C57bl/6j Male Mice, Mustafa Ahmed Al-Shagga Jan 2021

Investigating The Effect Of Khat (Catha Edulis) On Selected Obesity Markers And Pathways In C57bl/6j Male Mice, Mustafa Ahmed Al-Shagga

Student Works (2020-2029)

In East African and South Western Arabian populations, Catha edulis (khat) is believed to suppress appetite and reduce body weight. First, this study conducted a systematic review of the literature on the effects of khat and its active alkaloid cathinone on body weight and appetite regulation. Second, this study investigated the effect of khat and cathinone on selected metabolic and histopathologic parameters and their influence on the expression of obesity-related genes in high-fat diet-induced obese mice. Forty-two male C57BL/6J mice were divided into seven groups (n= 6); normal diet control treated with vehicle (NDC), normal diet treated with 200 mg/kg …

Synthesis, Characterization And Biological Activity Of Copper (Ii) And Zinc (Ii) Complexes Of Thiosemicarbazones And Their N(4)-Substituted Derivatives Derived From 2,4-Dihydroxybenzaldehyde., Tan Kong Wai Jan 2010

Synthesis, Characterization And Biological Activity Of Copper (Ii) And Zinc (Ii) Complexes Of Thiosemicarbazones And Their N(4)-Substituted Derivatives Derived From 2,4-Dihydroxybenzaldehyde., Tan Kong Wai

Student Works (2010-2019)

Four thiosemicarbazones ligands (1-4) have been prepared with good yield by refluxing 2,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde with thiosemicarbazide or N(4)-substituted thiosemicarbazide in ethanol or methanol. From these four ligands, 16 new ternary metal complexes (5-20) with the general formulation of M(B)L have been prepared from the reactions of metal acetates with 2,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde N(4)-substituted thiosemicarbazone in the presence of N,N-heterocyclic base (M2+ = Zn2+ or Cu2+; B = 2,2'-bipyridine, (bpy); 1,10-phenanthroline, (phen); L2- = doubly deprotonated thiosemicarbazones = 2,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde thiosemicarbazonato, (HT); 2,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde 4-methylthiosemicarbazonato, (HM); 2,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde 4-ethylthiosemicarbazonato, (HE) and 2,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde 4-phenylthiosemicarbazonato, (HP)) These compounds have been characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UV-Vis, NMR and magnetic …

Tryptamine (1H-indole-3-ethyleneamine) Schiff bases were prepared by the condensation reaction of ethanolic solution of tryptamine with: salicylaldehyde (TS), 5 chlorosalicylaldehyde (TCS), 5-nitrosalicylaldehyde (TNS), 3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxy benzaldehyde (TTET) and the ketones: 2-hydroxyacetophenone (THAP), 5-methyl-2- hydroxyacetophenone (TMeHAP), 5-methoxy-2 hydroxyacetophenone (TOMeHAP), 5- chloro-2-hydroxyacetophenone (TClHAP) and 5-bromo-2 hydroxyacetophenone (TBrHAP). The ligands were coordinated to Zn(II), Cu(II) and Ni(II) by the reaction of metal acetates with the corresponding ligand in a 1 : 2 metal to ligand ratio. The solid products formed were collected, washed with ethanol and recrystallized from a suitable solvent. All the ligands and complexes prepared have been characterized by spectroscopic methods using …
