Medication Cost Reduction And Substitution Strategies Through The Mymetrx Program At Catholic Hospice, Ana M. Sanchez Monroig, Tracy Romanello, Joseph Solien, Sanaz Kashan, Angel E. Sanchez Artiles
East Florida Research Day 2023
Please see supplemental content for full abstract with references.
Introduction: As healthcare costs continue to rise, and with the growing awareness of the potential harms of polypharmacy, there is an ongoing need to explore strategies to optimize medication use in hospice settings. Strategies include deprescribing and medication substitutions, which ensure the safety and comfort of patients but can also lead to significant medication cost reduction.
Objectives: The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of the MyMetRx program on medication cost reduction and medication substitutions within the context of Catholic Hospice. The program aimed to optimize medication …

Apothecary
It is with great honor that we present the 2023 Apothecary issue. This year's Apothecary was made possible by generous financial contributions from many stores, businesses, and Southwestern College of Pharmacy alumni. We greatly appreciate and thank you for your continued support.
The Apothecary staff would like to thank Dr. Les Ramos and Adina Foust. This process would not have been possible without their continuous support, patience, and behind-the-scenes efforts. We also want to thank the SWOSU Design Studio for their hard work in creating this year's fantastic cover and dividers. You always help bring our ideas to life and …

Provider Education On Annual B12 Levels In Patients On Metformin, Callan Gravel-Pucillo Mms
Family Medicine Clerkship Student Projects
Education of primary care providers about the current recommendations, guidelines, and caveats surrounding obtaining annual B12 levels in patients on metformin to screen for deficiency. Education was based off of informal survey results assessing providers' current practices and the preferred medium through which they wanted to recieve educational content. Educational content was presented in a flowchart format for ease of use and distributed at both practice sites for providers to hang at their workstations.

Testing The Efficacy And Synergistic Components Of Sesamol And Black Rice Extract On Human Colon Cancer Cells, Sera Lim, Philip M. Gerk
Undergraduate Research Posters
Purpose: Systemic treatment of colorectal cancer involves chemotherapeutic agents which elicit serious and negative side effects from the toxicity of the drug. To address this issue, we are testing dietary supplements for their efficacy against human colon cancer cell lines and also their potential synergistic effects when combined with conventional chemotherapy. Dietary supplements (specifically sesamol and black rice extract) exhibit anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and chemo-preventive properties. Meanwhile, one of the cancer resistance mechanisms is the upregulation of drug elimination mechanisms, leading to multi-drug resistance. We hypothesize that dietary compounds will act as chemo-enhancers, thus enhancing potency of the chemotherapy drug(s) on …

Pharmacist-Provided Educational Intervention And Its Impact On Medical Resident Knowledge And Comfort Level With Continuous Glucose Monitors (Cgms), Chelsea Dezfuli, Sarah Muench, Colleen Lauster
Posters
Continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) have become an integral component of diabetes care
American Diabetes Association now recommends that CGMs be offered to all patients on insulin who can use the device safely
Integrating CGMs into clinical practice can be challenging for several reasons: – Data overload – Cost – Need for education on data interpretation

• Steroids are used in shock to minimize the impact of shock-induced dysregulation of inflammatory response – Hydrocortisone is preferred for its activity as a glucocorticoid and a mineralocorticoid • Available data on the use of hydrocortisone shows mixed benefit – Data to guide dosing is limited, use of 100 mg IV every 8 hours may have benefit over 50 mg IV every 6 hours • Use of steroids has been associated with potential risks, including gastrointestinal bleeding, hyperglycemia, hypernatremia, superinfection, etc.
