Chemosensitizing Effect Of Peptides From Lentinus Squarrosulus On Cisplatin-Induced Apoptosis In Human Lung Cancer Cells, Hnin Ei Ei Khine -

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Cisplatin, platinum-based chemotherapy, is one of the standard chemotherapies for the treatment of lung cancer. However, its usefulness is limited due to the adverse effects and susceptibility to chemoresistance which lead to therapeutic failure. Nowadays, natural chemosensitizers, which can enhance the efficacy and decrease the effective dose of chemo-drugs, have been found to be interested in novel therapeutic. Recently, the anticancer activity of peptides extracted from Lentinus squarrosulus Mont. in human lung cancer cells has been reported. The novel potential of L. squarrosulus peptides as a chemotherapeutic adjuvant to increase cisplatin-induced apoptosis was uncovered in this study. Crude peptides extracted …

Preparation And Antimicrobial Activity Of Caprylic Acid Emulsion For Food Coating, Raweewan Bunyovimonnat

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Antimicrobial food coating is the interesting method for food preservation, especially in fruits and vegetables. Previous studies have been reported that the caprylic acid had the antimicrobial activity against a variety of microorganisms. However, little research has been conducted on the use of caprylic acid in the form of food coatings. Therefore, this study aims to determine the optimum conditions for the caprylic acid emulsion preparation and to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of the emulsion, including the effect of food coatings with caprylic acid emulsion on physical properties and microbial growth inhibition. Emulsions containing 4% w/v caprylic acid (oil) and …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

The objective of this research was to study the phytochemical composition of the Okra seed extract and its in vitro anticancer activity for future pharmaceutical use. We detected active flavonoids compounds such as isoquercitrin, at an amount of 2.89 ± 1.64 % w/w. Furthermore, antioxidation testing by DPPH assay and ABTS assay, showed values of IC50 = 55.80 ug/ml and 49.04 ug/ml, respectively. The Okra seed extract’s anti-cancer activity was evaluated on cancer cell lines, indicating anticancer properties for certain forms of cancer such as cervical cancer (HeLa), liver cancer (HepG2), and most significantly for breast cancer (MCF-7). The mechanisms …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Xerostomia, the subjective complaint about the dry mouth, may lead to the difficulty in daily living including speaking, swallowing, taste acuity and sleeping. Patients are often advised to drink water or chew ice to moisturize the oral cavity and also recommended to use stimulant or saliva substitute, such as sour candies, chewing gum and artificial saliva. In Thailand, there is no artificial saliva products available in the market and this makes it difficult to access the artificial saliva. Hence, artificial saliva have been developed in the form of solution in many hospitals to dispense for xerostomia patients in the hospitals. …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Due to their health benefits including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and also antimicrobial activities, extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) has received much attention in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical industries. Nanoemulsions (NEs) solubilize and increase absorption and bioavailability of lipophilic substances (i.e. olive oil). However, there is insufficient data in the formation of olive oil NEs. This study aimed to investigate the formation of oil-in-water NEs containing EVOO using low-energy approach and high-energy approach. NEs were characterized for size, polydispersity and zeta potential after storage at different conditions for up to 180 days. They were determined for antimicrobial susceptibility. From the result, NEs …

Chemical investigation of the leaves and stems of Pseuduvaria fragrans resulted in the isolation of seven pure compounds, including a new benzophenone C-glycoside named pseuduvarioside and six known compounds comprising (-)-guaiol, (+)-isocorydine, cyathocaline, isoursuline, N-trans-feruloyltyramine and N-trans-coumaroyltyramine. The structure determination of the isolated compounds was carried out by analysis of their UV, HRS-ESI-MS and NMR data in comparison with previously reported values. All the isolates were evaluated for their α-glucosidase inhibitory activity. Only N-trans-feruloyltyramine and N-trans-coumaroyltyramine exhibited strong activity with IC50 values of 3.58 µM and 0.58 µM, respectively, as compared with the drug acarbose (IC50 985.6 µM). Structural Model Of Engagement And Turnover Intention In Thai Pharmacist, Tulakarn Nakpun Jan 2017

Structural Model Of Engagement And Turnover Intention In Thai Pharmacist, Tulakarn Nakpun

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Turnover of community pharmacist can affect continuity of patient care and most importantly the quality of care and also the costs of a pharmacy. It was hypothesized that organizational resources, job characteristics, and social supports had direct effect on pharmacist turnover intention, and indirect effect on pharmacist turnover intention via pharmacist engagement. This research aimed to study influencing factors on pharmacist engagement and pharmacist turnover intention by testing the proposed structural hypothesized model to explain the relationship among organizational resources, job characteristics, and social supports that effect on pharmacist turnover intention and pharmacist engagement in Thai community pharmacists. A cross …

Isoquinoline Alkaloid Composition And Expression Of Biosynthetic Genes In Mechanically Wounded Sacred Lotus, Thitirat Meelaph Jan 2017

Isoquinoline Alkaloid Composition And Expression Of Biosynthetic Genes In Mechanically Wounded Sacred Lotus, Thitirat Meelaph

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Isoquinoline alkaloids, a plant secondary metabolites present in many plant species including lotus (Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn.). Lotus leaf contains high amount of bioactive nuciferine and N-nornuciferine. A set of enzyme including NCS, 6OMT and CNMT and WRKY transcription factors (WRKY TFs) has been reported to have corresponding function in the biosynthesis isoquinoline alkaloids. Thus, we performed quantitative analysis on expression level of these corresponing genes and on nuciferine and N-nornuciferine content in lotus leaf using mechanical wounding method. Sequence analysis clearly showed that all the targeted genes possess the conserved region belongs to their protein families. The accumulation of compound …

Effects Of Mitragynine On Morphine And Methamphetamine Addiction In Animal Models Of Addiction, Rittinarong Meepong Jan 2017

Effects Of Mitragynine On Morphine And Methamphetamine Addiction In Animal Models Of Addiction, Rittinarong Meepong

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa Korth) has long been used in folklore medicine in Southeast Asian countries. It has been used for its analgesic effects and treatment of opioid withdrawal. Mitragynine is a major alkaloid found in the leaves of kratom plant that exerts its effects via activation of opioid receptors and other receptors in the central nervous system. This study aimed to provide evaluation of abuse liability and potential of mitragynine in the treatment for opioids and amphetamine type stimulants addictions. Abuse liability of mitragynine and its effects on morphine and methamphetamine addiction were evaluated by drug discrimination, conditioned place preference …
