Previously underutilized, telemedicine has been implemented within a wide variety of health settings as a safe and efficient way of delivering healthcare during the COVID-19 pandemic. Maintaining operations during the pandemic made implementation of telemedicine an important aspect of college and university health center reopening plans. While caring for their patients, nurses often encounter spiritual needs. In a study with 241 hospice, palliative care, and holistic nurses, “all respondents (100%) indicated they had encountered a patient with spiritual needs throughout their nursing clinical practice” (Lukovsky et al., 2021, p. 32). Despite the prevalence of spiritual needs, many nurses feel unable to confront spiritual issues among their patients. Background: Many long-term care facilities in the United States face significant problems with nurse retention and turnover. These challenges are attributed at least in part to moral distress and a negative nurse practice environment. Licensed nurses working in long-term care facilities experience ethical challenges such as lack of resources, use of restraints, end-of-life issues, and caring for residents with dementia that, if not resolved, can lead to moral distress- especially if left unresolved. Objective: The aim of this study was to identify and prioritize research topics for nursing administration and leadership science.

Background: Nursing administration and leadership research priorities should provide a framework for building the science needed to inform practice.

Methods: The Association for Leadership Science in Nursing (ALSN) and American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) Foundation (AONL-F) for Nursing Leadership and Education collaborated on a Delphi study. Initial input on research priority items were received from ALSN and AONL members. National experts participated in a 3-round Delphi study.

Problem: Incremental overtime was found to majorly impact the financial well-being of a stroke unit. From an allocated budget of 22 hours per pay period, the unit’s incremental overtime averaged 40 hours. The stroke unit had skilled-mix competencies, further complicating handoffs. The absence of a standard reporting method means that reviewing patients’ charts takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes, extending what should be a quick, but thorough nurse knowledge exchange.

Furthermore, nursing students and perinatal nurses have historically negative and punitive attitudes toward this vulnerable population of women. Oncology related hospital visits account for over $88 billion annually; 35% of this cost is attributable to inpatient hospital stays even though most cancer treatments are given outpatient. At a regional Veterans Administration (VA) hospital, nurses performing case management were unable to perform face-to-face visits with patients due to coronavirus. Care coordination and discharge planning efforts occurred through telephonic case management to preserve personal protective equipment and reduce transmission rates through social distancing. Trust and rapport between patients and nurses were reduced without personal contact. Peplau’s theory of interpersonal relations described six nurse roles and three phases of relationship development required to create therapeutic nurse-patient relationships. Incidents of workplace violence (WPV) are pervasive in healthcare settings. WPV in the US occurs four times more frequently in the healthcare sector than in the private sector. However, the true incidence of WPV in healthcare settings is thought to be much higher secondary to significant under-reporting. The American Nurses Association (2019) reports, while one in four nurses are assaulted, only 20-60% of the incidents are reported. This study began with a current review of available research that identified the Millennial generation and their views toward job satisfaction and work engagement, as compared with Baby Boomer and Generation X nurses.

PubMed, CINAHL Complete, and Google Scholar databases were employed to find 15 peer-reviewed articles for evaluation. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) supports routine screening for depression as part of standard diabetes management. The PHQ2 and PHQ9 questionnaires are good diagnostic screening tools used for major depressive disorders in Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2).
