Implementation Of Community Health Worker Education Toolkit To Promote Compliance In Managed Care Organization, Lamonica Johnson
Implementation Of Community Health Worker Education Toolkit To Promote Compliance In Managed Care Organization, Lamonica Johnson
DNP Scholarly Projects
Community health workers provide case management and care coordination services to high-risk members enrolled in Louisiana Department of Health’s Medicaid program. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services require states entering contracts with managed care organizations to conduct external quality reviews by an independent External Quality Review Organization. Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set are quality metrics managed by the National Committee for Quality Assurance. These metrics are reported annually and required by Louisiana Department of Health. Community health workers are required to demonstrate quality accreditation and meet state specific requirement compliance through documentation. The aim of this project was to …
Large Scale Organizational Intervention To Improve Emergency Department Throughput In A Community Hospital, Karen Elliott
Large Scale Organizational Intervention To Improve Emergency Department Throughput In A Community Hospital, Karen Elliott
DNP Scholarly Projects
Abstract
BACKGROUND: Emergency Department boarding is a well-documented systemic problem across the country. ED-2b, the time from decision to admit a patient to Emergency Department departure, is specified by the Joint Commission as a quality measure for Emergency Department boarding. ED-2b metrics have been a longstanding challenge at this community hospital outside the nation’s capital. The aim of this study was to reduce median ED-2b times by 10% compared to fiscal year 2020 (FY20). To accomplish the reduction in time, a multidisciplinary throughput committee was developed with subsequent action plans designed to improve Emergency Department throughput.
METHODS: The Plan Do …
The Effect Of An Acuity Adaptable Unit On Efficiency In Non-Critical Trauma Patients, Rebecca Charles
The Effect Of An Acuity Adaptable Unit On Efficiency In Non-Critical Trauma Patients, Rebecca Charles
DNP Projects
Problem Statement: It was observed a large academic medical center is experiencing impeding congestion of non-critical care patients due to challenges with bed availability and high patient volumes. Delays in transferring patients to an appropriate level of care can impose safety risks and prolong length of stay. Implementation of an acuity adaptable unit may be a cost-effective approach to a growing problem.
Background: A fixed bed model limits the acuity of patients admitted to a specific space. Using the Iowa Model of Evidence Based Practice as the framework for design, moving to an acuity adaptable unit could facilitate patient …

Conceptual Framework: Watson’s Theory of Human Caring
Design: This study is a quantitative, descriptive retrospective measurement of two points in time, before and after …
The Effect Of Multimethodological Emotional Intelligence Training On Emotional Intelligence Levels In Nurses At An Academic Medical Center, Chad Eldridge
DNP Projects
Background: Stress levels associated with the nursing career can be amplified by hostile social environments in the workplace, horizontal aggression, lack of leadership support, and poor communication. This can lead to poor retention rates and increased burnout.
Conversely, supportive work environments positively influence nursing sensitive quality indicators such as patient satisfaction, nosocomial infections, patient falls, pressure ulcers, and medication errors. Strong relationships enhance workplace social capital leading to an increased sense of belonging, strengthened mental health, and improved job satisfaction ratings.
Executive nurse leaders can promote an empowering environment dedicated to the physical, mental, and social well-being of their staff …
Exploring Therapeutic Nurse-Patient Communication: Techniques And Barriers, Pierina Rossini
Exploring Therapeutic Nurse-Patient Communication: Techniques And Barriers, Pierina Rossini
Senior Honors Theses
Effective nurse-patient communication, also described as therapeutic communication, is essential for providing high quality nursing care. It increases patient satisfaction and health, decreases patient anxiety and disease symptoms, and increases patient cooperation and compliance to treatment. Some therapeutic communication techniques include attentive listening, empathy, silence, focusing, open-ended questions, clarification, exploring, clarifying, and summarizing. Unfortunately, there are barriers to therapeutic communication that have been identified. Research regarding nurse-patient therapeutic communication, consisting of secondary, qualitative, descriptive data, points to several barriers to therapeutic communication. Some of the barriers to therapeutic communication include nurse-patient gender difference; patient physical discomfort; nurse-patient language, culture, and …
