Current Targeted Interventions For Adult Patients With Comorbid Obesity And Depression: An Integrative Review, Meredith Lawson Parnell

Obesity and depression share a bidirectional relationship when they exist as comorbidities in addition to individually posing complex public health challenges. Evidence from recent years suggests that there is a benefit to treating these illnesses with an integrated approach when they co-occur, but no current clinical guideline exists for this approach. The purpose of this integrative review is to synthesize existing literature and report current interventions targeting the management of comorbid obesity and depression in adults. Kangaroo mother care (KMC), the practice in which mothers hold their infants skin-to-skin against their bare chest, can increase bonding and attachment between mothers and their infants. However, there is not much research on the benefits of KMC within the adolescent or teen mother population (13-19 years old). The purpose of this scoping review was to identify how common KMC is within the teen mother population, determine how KMC varies based on social determinants of health and race/ethnicity within the adolescent mother population, and how KMC impacts adolescent mothers’ maternal attachment and bonding with their infants. This quality improvement project was conducted to evaluate whether a focused educational session on self-management of blood glucose monitoring increased the frequency of monitoring for adult type II diabetics who were not taking insulin therapy. The purpose of this improvement project was to add to the body of research from this project. Currently, there are no recommendations for people with type II diabetes who are not taking insulin therapy regarding monitoring their blood glucose. Achieving health equity requires a diversity of perspectives, values, and insights, yet the composition of the United States’ nursing workforce does not reflect the communities where they practice. Nurse leaders can advance health equity and exemplary clinical outcomes by creating diverse, equitable, and inclusive health care teams. Such teams are well-equipped for organizational learning, a crucial process for advancing health equity. Nurse leaders advance health equity by fostering diversity, equity, inclusion, and thus organizational learning in the workplace.

Flourishing is linked with health and well-being in childhood and adulthood. This study applied a promotive factors model to examine how neighborhood assets might benefit child and adolescent flourishing by promoting family resilience. Using data from the combined 2018 and 2019 National Survey of Children’s Health, structural equation models tested direct and indirect relationships between neighborhood physical environment, neighborhood social cohesion, family resilience, and flourishing among 18,396 children and 24,817 adolescents. After controlling for multiple covariates that may influence flourishing, the models supported that higher levels of neighborhood social cohesion were directly associated with higher levels of flourishing adolescents, and …

Although there is a great deal of research on the causes of compassion fatigue, there is little research on prevention techniques or ways to combat compassion fatigue. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to discover if nurses are prepared to cope with occupational stress and compassion fatigue. A secondary purpose was to examine the perceived benefit that pet therapy can have as a possible stress reduction technique to decrease the effects of compassion fatigue. Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) is a frightening global disease, especially because of its high contagiousness. This study aimed to identify the future anxiety regarding immunity status in nursing students who work in hospitals, especially those caring for patients with COVID-19. This study design was cross-sectional with standard translated instruments of the Future Anxiety Scale and Immune Status Questionnaire administered using a Google Form to 102 respondents. Results revealed that among the respondents, 87 experienced severe psychological anxiety (85.3%), 46 experienced moderate social anxiety (45.1%), 42 experienced moderate economic anxiety (41.2%), 38 experienced mild media anxiety (37.3%), 53 experienced mild religious anxiety …

Nursing documentation is assessed in hospital accreditation because it includes the actions taken and the quality of provided care. Hospital accreditation undergoes three phases consist of preparation, implementation, and post-accreditation. In the post-accreditation phase, there is reduced compliance of workers and nurses. This study determines the quality of nursing documentation at the fully accredited hospital by using descriptive and quantitative research with a retrospective approach. A simple random sampling method is used to attain 292 documents. Data are collected using the Evaluation of Nursing Care Instrument by the Ministry of Health Republic of Indonesia. Introduction: Genomic/precision medicine offers a remarkable opportunity to improve health and address health disparities. Genomic medicine is the study of genes and their interaction with health. Precision medicine is an approach to disease prevention and treatment that considers individual variability in genes, environ- ment and lifestyle. Conclusions from studies lacking diversity may hinder general- izability as genomic variation occurs within and between populations. The term “silent epidemic” is fitting for Alzheimer’s disease (AD), as its negative impact is widely felt but rarely discussed. Burnout among AD caregivers has become an epidemic of its own as caregivers experience an increase in health risks, stress, and financial burden. This literature review focuses on caregiver burnout and how imperative it is that caregivers are better supported in their role. Researchers have developed instruments to assess and intervene in caregiver burnout that have shown effectiveness among caregivers and their families.Nevertheless, further longitudinal research is warranted regarding more effective interventions, including stress management and social support mechanisms.
