This project aims to impact nursing knowledge and attitudes toward trans* and gender-nonconforming patients. The term transgender, synonymous with the term trans*, is utilized by individuals whose gender and designated sex at birth differ from one another, compared to cisgender persons whose gender and assigned sex are aligned (Erickson-Schroth, 2014).

The trans* population remains underserved. Nurses conscious and unconscious biases impede the advancement of knowledge and attitudes needed to promote best outcomes for trans* patients. Mental health disorders are prominent and devastating in the United States. They are more prevalent in low-socioeconomic and minority groups with lower rates of diagnosis and treatment in these populations. Primary care settings are the foremost location for screening, diagnosis, and treatment for common mental health disorders but do not always provide adequate care due to limitations of time, knowledge, and resources. The research presented on this poster explored the impact of extraprofessional education on undergraduate nursing and speech-language pathology students with an overall goal of improving the interprofessional relationship between the two fields. Utilizing quantitative and qualitative methods in the form of a pre-test, educational materials, live guided observation, and post-tests, the researchers found an increase in the nursing students ability to identify the role of the speech-language pathologist in a medical setting. There was also an increase in the speech-language pathology student’s ability to understand how and when to communicate with nurses in a medical setting.

Socially and within the medical treatment system TGNC individuals face widespread stigmatization and discrimination which negatively impacts their mental, physical, and emotional health and contributes to health disparities. Real and perceived barriers to safe and effective healthcare are worsened by the scarcity of primary care providers knowledgeable in caring for these populations.

This capstone project, Direct Care Nursing Aide Retention in a Long-Term Care Facility, will uses both qualitative and quantitative analyses to identify the possible contributors to high nursing aide turnover rates in Maine. The quantitative analyses of this project are based on the staffing payroll data of one Maine assisted living facility. The final product of this capstone project will be shared with the study facility, in the hope that they may find uses for its content.

Objective: This study aimed to explore the experiences of female breast cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy (RT) in a public hospital in Peshawar, Pakistan.
Methods: This study employed a descriptive exploratory method. A purposive sample of 14 breast cancer women undergoing RT was selected for this study. Data were collected over the period of 5 months, using a semi-structured interview guide and conducting in-depth face-to-face interviews. These interviews were audio taped and transcribed by a bilingual transcriber. The translated version of the interview was coded, and the analysis was done manually.

Video capture of simulation provides observation from a wide-angle view. This study introduced a new technique, “patient-perspective” video capture, using a camera mounted into eyeglasses allowing learners to view their nonverbal and verbal communication through the patient’s eyes and to compare this to the wide-angle view. The participants (n = 29) were Nurse Practitioner students. The majority were female (93.2%), with a mean age of 36.8, SD = 12.31. The sample consisted of Millennials (65.6%), Generation Xers (13.8%), and Baby Boomers (20.7%). The average number of years of nursing practice was 9.89. Following the author's own study abroad in Cusco, Peru in May 2017, a literature review was conducted on nursing students who studied abroad and its effect on their ability to provide culturally competent care. Based on that review, the author created a standardized survey tool to be used on other nursing students who study abroad. This tool includes pre-travel and post-travel questions. It collects demographic data, data on the logistics of the trip, and open-ended questions about the experience. Background: Primaquine (PQ) is the only FDA-approved drug for radical cure of Plasmodium vivax (P.v) malaria, but treatment can result in life-threatening hemolysis if given to a glucose-6- phosphate dehydrogenase deficient (G6PDd) patient. Therefore, the G6PD status of the patient with P.v must be known prior to prescribing PQ. Background/Purpose: GATA2 and Dedicator-of-Cytokinesis-8 (DOCK8) deficiencies are two recently described genetic immunodeficiency diseases for which allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) represents the only definitive therapy. The patient characteristics and HSCT variables that relate to the outcomes in these two diseases following HSCT remain unclear.
