Hip impingement syndrome with labral tear is debilitating for young patients. When magnetic resonance arthrogram (MRA) is equivocal for surgical decision making, an additional intra-articular diagnostic injection (IA) can further confirm the diagnosis. We assessed the effectiveness on surgical decision making by combining hip MRA + IA in one single procedure.

Background: Knee arthrofibrosis is a common complication after surgical fixation of tibial spine fractures. However, there is no standardized treatment modality for resultant arthrofibrosis, with some surgeons electing for nonoperative management, while others prefer manipulation under anesthesia with a possible arthroscopic lysis of adhesions, if indicated. To better understand indications and outcomes from these treatment modalities for arthrofibrosis, we examined patients treated by both approaches.

Background/Objectives: Bone nonunion remains a clinical challenge in orthopedic surgery with significant impacts on mental and physical wellbeing for patients. There are several previously established risk factors of nonunion that are connected to nutrition, but this has yet to be substantially explored. This review seeks to assess all studies that present associations between nutrition and nonunion to understand the potential for clinical relevance in nonunion prevention. Background Total joint arthroplasty (TJA) patients on preoperative anticoagulation therapy present a challenge for adult reconstruction surgeons. The goal in managing such patients is to limit bleeding complications associated with administering the medications while preventing medical complications from withholding them. At our institution, we began a protocol in 2017 that utilizes a half-dose direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) regimen for one week followed by resuming of the full-dose regimen in select patients who underwent TJA. The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of job change among early-career adult reconstruction surgeons and to examine which demographic or practice factors influenced job change. Methods: An electronic survey was distributed to all practicing surgeon members of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons Young Arthroplasty Group. Previous studies have shown that the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) is associated with increased stress fracture risk. This phenomenon has been studied predominantly in high-activity individuals, so data regarding the general population are limited despite the substantial economic and resource burden of stress fracture injuries within the general US population. Furthermore, our preclinical studies demonstrate that regular use of NSAIDs also diminishes the intrinsic ability of bone to resist fracture. Objectives: Injury classifications are important tools to identify fracture patterns, guide treatment-decisions and aid to identify optimal treatment plans. The AO Spine-DGOU Osteoporotic Fracture (OF) classification system was developed, and the aim of this study was to assess the reliability of this new classification system.

Aim: To examine the clinical accuracy and applicability of ChatGPT answers to commonly asked questions from patients considering posterior lumbar decompression (PLD). Methods: A literature review was conducted to identify 10 questions that encompass some of the most common questions and concerns patients may have regarding lumbar decompression surgery. The selected questions were then posed to ChatGPT. Initial responses were then recorded, and no follow-up or clarifying questions were permitted. A right-hand-dominant female presented 5 weeks following a right middle finger intralesional cantharidin injection for a common wart by a dermatologist. The patient experienced progressive stiffness, blistering, swelling, pain, and ultimately, full-thickness skin necrosis surrounding the injection site. Careful debridement followed by a full-thickness skin graft was performed with no evidence of involvement of the germinal matrix or terminal extensor tendon. At the 7-month postoperative mark, the patient’s graft exhibited favorable healing and improved functionality that did not require further follow-up. Intralesional injection of cantharidin solutions for digital warts leads to progressive skin necrosis. Our case required prompt debridement and …

The objective of this study was to compare the planned resection angles to the verified intraoperative angles of femoral and tibial varus/valgus, tibial slope, and femoral flexion for each total knee performed using intramedullary (IM) cut guides for both distal femur and proximal tibia cuts. A total of 1,000 total knee arthroplasties (TKAs) were evaluated for this study. Intraoperative cut-check technology was used to show real-time validation of these resection angles. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the leading challenges in developing countries' traumatic spinal cord injury (TSCI) care.

METHODS: We conducted a systematic search in electronic databases of PubMed, SCOPUS, Web of Science, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library on 16 April 2023. Studies that investigated challenges associated with the management of TSCI in developing countries were eligible for review. This approach aims to enhance eradication of pathogens while minimizing systemic side effects associated with prolonged antibiotic use. Background: Most displaced supracondylar humerus fractures (SCHFs) are treated with closed reduction and percutaneous pinning. While there are only a few possible indications for converting to an open reduction, a failed closed reduction is a common cause. This study aims to elucidate possible risk factors for failed closed reductions of SCHF.

Background: This study seeks to analyze risk factors associated with loss to follow up (LTF) after pin pull in pediatric patients with operatively treated supracondylar humerus fractures (SCHF).

Methods: A retrospective cohort study of patients under 18 years with operative SCHF from 2010 to 2020 was conducted. Factors of interest included LTF, age, race, language, distance to the hospital, Gartland fracture type, and Social Deprivation Index (SDI) by ZIP code. Univariate logistic regression was performed for each independent variable and significant variables were additionally analyzed with multivariate logistic regression analysis.

The direct anterior approach (DAA) has been increasing in popularity for primary total hip arthroplasty (THA). Despite previously documented anatomic limitations to its direct distal extension, alternative exposure methods have been described to safely access the femoral diaphysis and facilitate increasingly complex primary and revision THA scenarios. BACKGROUND: The North American Spine Society (NASS) assembled the first ever comprehensive naming system for describing lumbar disc disease, including lumbar disc herniation. The objectives of this study were (1) to determine which NASS descriptors are most predictive of independent patient-reported outcomes after microdiscectomy and (2) to identify the inter-rater reliability of each NASS descriptor.

METHODS: Adult patients (≥18 years) who underwent a lumbar microdiscectomy from 2014-2021 were retrospectively identified. Objectives:

The purpose of this study is to identify if construct length affects the rate of surgical complications and instrumentation revision following surgical fixation of subaxial and thoracolumbar Type B and C fractures. This study evaluates the effect of ankylosing spondylitis/diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (AS/DISH) within this population on outcomes.

Methods:

Retrospective review of 91 cervical and 89 thoracolumbar Type B and C fractures. Groups were divided by construct length for analysis: short-segment (constructs spanning two or less segments adjacent to the fracture) and long-segment (constructs spanning more than two segments adjacent to the vertebral fracture).
