Ultrasound Evaluation Of Umbilical Coiling Index In Second Trimester Of Gestation And Its Association With Small For Gestational Age Status At Birth, Josephine Mwikali Ndolo
Master of Medicine in Imaging and Diagnostic Radiology
Introduction: The degree of coiling of the umbilical cord, referred to as umbilical coiling index, has been shown to have an effect on perinatal adverse outcomes such as small for gestational age neonates, interventional delivery, meconium staining, low fetal pH and low Apgar score. This study proposes that the antenatal umbilical coiling index performed in the second trimester of pregnancy has a correlation with the gestation-specific birth weight and can therefore be used as a marker to predict small for gestational age neonates. Objective: To determine the association between antenatal umbilical coiling index (aUCI) in the second trimester and small …

Prevalence Of Suspicious Ultrasound Findings In Patients With Mammographic Focal Asymmetry At Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi, Jacqueline Ndunge Mavuti
Master of Medicine in Imaging and Diagnostic Radiology
Background: Breast cancer has become the leading cancer in women in both economically developed and developing countries, accounting for 25% of all cancers diagnosed worldwide in 2012. The cornerstone of breast cancer control remains early detection in order to improve outcomes and survival. Thus far the only breast cancer screening method that has proved to be effective is mammography. Although mammography is the mainstay of early detection, a fundamental limitation is its low inherent contrast difference between the soft tissue structures in the breast. Mammographic specificity relies on the ability to distinguish benign from malignant breast lesions based on their …

Comparison Of Quantitative Analysis To Qualitative Analysis For Interpretation Of Lower Limb Lymphoscintigraphy, Edward Chege Nganga
Master of Medicine in Imaging and Diagnostic Radiology
Background: Lymphoscintigraphy is now the primary imaging modality used in determining a diagnosis in patients with suspected extremity lymphedema. However, analysis is mainly by visual qualitative analysis which is subjective and has a wide inter-observer variability. Subtle differences in ilioinguinal uptake between normal and abnormal limbs may be missed with visual qualitative analysis. This study seeks to compare quantitative analysis to qualitative analysis by computing percentage ilioinguinal nodes uptake at 1.5 hours. Objectives: To compare quantitative analysis to qualitative analysis of lower limb lymphoscintigraphy in the diagnosis of lymphedema. To determine the diagnostic accuracy of quantitative lymphoscintigraphy analysis. Methodology: 52 …

Management Of Radioactive Spills In Nuclear Medicine; Teaching And Assessing With Objectively Structured Assessment Of Technical Skills, Riffat Parveen Hussain
Department of Radiology
Routine work in nuclear medicine requires the careful elution of radioactivity and its subsequent, storage and handling. Though all effort is maintained to prevent any "spill" of this radioactivity, accidents are bound to happen. The response to this spill is a methodically worked out a plan that is written and adopted as a "standard operating procedure." This protocol is taught to all involved in the area of working as a mock drill/apprenticeship model. No formal evaluation of learning is in place except for the mock drills. The objectively structured assessment of technical skills (OSATS) is a variation on the Objective …

Treatment Updates Regarding Anaplastic Oligodendroglioma And Anaplastic Oligoastrocytoma, Khurshid Ahmed Khan, Ahmed Nadeem Abbasi, Nasir Ali
Department of Radiation Oncology
Anaplastic Oligodendroglioma / Anaplastic Oligoastrocytoma (AO/AOA) is a WHO Grade-III primary brain tumor. These tumors comprise about 5 - 10% of all gliomas, which make them the third most common primary brain tumors after glioblastoma multiforme and astrocytomas. For many years standard of treatment remained Maximum Safe Resection (MSR) followed by Radiotherapy (RT). These tumors have also been known to be sensitive to alkylator-based chemotherapy particularly the subset having 1p/19q co-deletion signature. There is robust data showing that these tumors are responsive to chemotherapy in recurrent or progressive setting. Recently, up front chemotherapy has been added to standard post-surgery RT. …

A Unique Mri Presentation Of Fungal Infection In The Brain, Muhammad Bilal Salman Khan, Saad Shafqat, Ather Enam
Section of Neurology
Fungal infections of CNS are common in certain geographic locations. MRI with or without contrast is a useful prediagnostic tool. However, the findings may sometimes be misleading. In this case report, the authors present unusual imaging findings in the MRI of fungal infection in an immunocompetent host, whereby hyper-intense signals were seen on T2-weighted images and patchy post-contrast enhancement was observed with surrounding edema. These findings were suggestive of a neoplastic lesion but it was identified as aspergillosis on subsequent histopathology. This unusual MRI finding of CNS highlights the need to consider fungal infection as a differential diagnosis of all …
