Vaccine Hesitancy Among Youth Living With Hiv In Detroit, Madeline B. Simone

Vaccine hesitancy among youth with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) was evaluated to determine if the pandemic affected vaccine acceptance. A retrospective chart review was conducted to analyze vaccine rates over a five-year (pre-post COVID) in one university-based clinic. Results indicated a variation in acceptance rates between vaccines, with the MenACWY, MenB, tetanus, and HPV having the highest acceptance rates and COVID-19 and annual flu vaccine having the lowest acceptance rates. Vaccine hesitancy did not correlate with HIV treatment hesitancy nor with aversion to needles. Negative messaging around vaccines from a variety of sources appeared to be the primary factor in …

Newborns encounter many painful events, including heel sticks, venous blood sampling, peripheral intravenous insertions, and more. Newborns cannot verbally express pain, and caregivers rely on changes in vital signs (increased heart rate, decreased oxygen saturations) behavior (long periods of inconsolable crying), and facial expressions to grade newborn pain. Pain management in neonates is critical to preserve neurodevelopment. Background:

Extrauterine Growth Restriction (EUGR) has been defined as infant weight-for-age z-score (WAZ) of less than -1.28 standard deviations (SD), at discharge or 36–40 weeks (about 9 months) postmenstrual age. In 2018, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition published indicators of neonatal malnutrition, including a decline in WAZ over time. Mild, moderate, and severe neonatal malnutrition is defined as a WAZ decline of 0.8-1.2 SD; >1.2-2 SD; >2 SD, respectively, and it is unclear how widely revised neonatal malnutrition indicators are being used.

In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic drastically altered the way clinical research is conducted through a widespread adoption of telemedicine practices. Using telehealth/telemedicine services allowed researchers to conduct “decentralized clinical trials”, or DCTs, for all or portions of study protocol procedures while maintaining safety measures implemented for pandemic control. Background: Service readiness tools are important for assessing hospital capacity to provide quality small and sick newborn care (SSNC). Lack of summary scoring approaches for SSNC service readiness means we are unable to track national targets such as the Every Newborn Action Plan targets.

Methods: A health facility assessment (HFA) tool was co-designed by Newborn Essential Solutions and Technologies (NEST360) and UNICEF with four African governments. The Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System 29-Item Health Profile (PROMIS-29) is a generic measure of health-related quality of life that is not well-studied in Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) patients. Our objective was to investigate the reliability and validity of the PROMIS-29 in AS. About 169 consecutive AS patients were enrolled from 2017 to 2022 with 167/169 patients fully completing the PROMIS-29 in this cross-sectional study. Test-retest reliability and internal consistency was assessed using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) and Cronbach alpha, respectively. OBJECTIVE: Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI), defined as a deliberate destruction of one's own body without a suicidal intent, is a global public health issue. Adverse childhood events (ACEs) have been shown to be associated with various mental illnesses; however, to date the impact of such events on NSSI in youth has not been reviewed.

METHODS: We conducted a systematic review, searched 5 databases for published articles evaluating ACE and NSSI in youth less than or equal to 21 years of age. After screening 247 articles, we included 21 unique articles in this systematic review.

The aim of this study was to identify physical behaviour phenotypes in mothers in the first trimester and in their offspring at 24 months of age. The secondary aim was to examine relationships between mother and child behaviours with child body composition at age 24 months.

Introduction Keloids may pose significant difficulty to affected patients: they can be painful, itchy, impact mobility if they cross joints, and most disruptively, can be physically disfiguring and cause emotional distress. While multiple treatments exist, none reliably provide scar resolution, and up to 100% of keloids return after surgical excision. BACKGROUND: The Paediatric Difficult Intubation Collaborative identified multiple attempts and persistence with direct laryngoscopy as risk factors for complications in children with difficult tracheal intubations and subsequently engaged in initiatives to reduce repeated attempts and persistence with direct laryngoscopy in children. We hypothesised these efforts would lead to fewer attempts, fewer direct laryngoscopy attempts and decrease complications.

Intellectual disability (ID) commonly co-occurs in children with autism. Although diagnostic criteria for ID require impairments in both cognitive and adaptive functioning, most population-based estimates of the frequency of co-occurring ID in children with autism-including studies of racial and ethnic disparities in co-occurring autism and ID-base the definition of ID solely on cognitive scores. BACKGROUND: Fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) is a bone-derived hormone that plays a central role in chronic kidney disease-mineral bone disorder and is associated with CKD progression and cardiovascular morbidity. Factors related to CKD-associated anemia, including iron deficiency, can increase FGF23 production. This study aimed to assess whether anemia and/or iron deficiency are associated with increased circulating concentrations of FGF23 in the large, well-characterized Chronic Kidney Disease in Children (CKiD) study cohort.

METHODS: Hemoglobin concentrations, iron parameters, C-terminal (total) FGF23, intact FGF23, and relevant covariables were measured in cross-sectional analysis of CKiD study subjects.

Layla is a 6.7-year-old girl diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)-predominantly hyperactive/impulsive type-delayed adaptive skills, enuresis, unspecified malnutrition, and feeding difficulties. She presented to developmental-behavioral pediatrics (DBP) in January 2022 due to caregiver concerns for autism spectrum disorder (ASD).Layla lives in a polyamorous family with her biological mother and father, mother's partner whom Layla refers to as her uncle, and her 2 half-siblings. There is a maternal history of special education services, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, multiple sclerosis, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, and ADHD. Objective: We compared clinical characteristics and renal response in patients with childhood-onset proliferative lupus nephritis (LN) treated with the EuroLupus versus National Institutes of Health (NIH) cyclophosphamide (CYC) regimen.

Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted at 11 pediatric centers in North America that reported using both CYC regimens. Data were extracted from the electronic medical record at baseline and 3, 6, and 12 months after treatment initiation with CYC. Many factors affect patient outcome after congenital heart surgery, including the complexity of the heart disease, pre-operative status, patient specific factors (prematurity, nutritional status and/or presence of comorbid conditions or genetic syndromes), and post-operative residual lesions. The Residual Lesion Score is a novel tool for assessing whether specific residual cardiac lesions after surgery have a measurable impact on outcome. Background: In the past decade, there have been substantial advances in our understanding of the pathobiology of pediatric acute kidney injury (AKI). Approximately five million Ukrainians were displaced to the EU/EEA following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. While tuberculosis (TB) notification rates per 100,000 Ukrainians in the EU/EEA remained stable, the number of notified TB cases in Ukrainians increased almost fourfold (mean 2019-2021: 201; 2022: 780). In 2022, 71% cases were notified in three countries, and almost 20% of drug-resistant TB cases were of Ukrainian origin. Targeted healthcare services for Ukrainians are vital for early diagnosis and treatment, and preventing transmission.
