Introduction: Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) is the standard form of preoperative evaluation of thyroid nodule cytological status. A significant number FNAs are classified as inadequate for interpretation, requiring a repeat FNA which is potentially avoidable, costly, and delays treatment. To address these concerns and maximize first-time FNA adequacy, rapid onsite evaluation (ROSE) of FNA specimens was introduced. Our study aims to determine the impact of ROSE on FNA adequacy. Background: Basaloid salivary gland neoplasms (BSGNs) are notoriously difficult to classify in fine needle aspiration (FNA) specimens due to the morphologic overlap shown by the various benign and malignant entities in this category1,2,3. Adenoid cystic carcinoma (AdCC) represents a particular diagnostic challenge, as it typically shows low grade cytologic features despite its aggressive clinical behavior and need for more extensive surgery4. We examined whether the proliferation markers Ki67 and PHH3 could help predict malignancy in BSGNs, thus improving diagnostic accuracy and optimizing patient care.

Background
Cribriform adenocarcinoma of salivary glands (CASG) is a rare, predominantly minor salivary gland tumor first described in 1999. Because the tumor shares morphologic and molecular features with polymorphous adenocarcinoma (PAC), in 2017, the World Health Organization (WHO) included CASG within the spectrum of PAC. Almost 75% of CASG harbor molecular alterations in the PRKD (Protein kinase D) gene family, and some cases show ARID1A (AT-rich interaction domain 1A)-PRKD1 or DDX3X (DEAD-Box Helicase 3 X-Linked)-PRKD1 fusions.

A total of 113 fine needle aspirates of the breast masses were evaluated in which the subsequent biopsy or mastectomy specimen were also available for histological examination. The age ranged from 16 to 80 years with a mean of 42 years. In benign conditions the mean age was 34.7 years while in malignant cases it was 48 years. The cytological diagnoses were compared with the histological results which revealed that the specificity and sensitivity of fine needle aspiration cytology in the palpable breast lesions was 86.1% and 89.2% respectively with a positive predictive value of 93% and efficiency of 88.2%. …
