Pre-Transplant Evaluation Period Efficiency Through The Use Of An Electronic Scheduling Template, Christy Dawn Byrd Apr 2023

Pre-Transplant Evaluation Period Efficiency Through The Use Of An Electronic Scheduling Template, Christy Dawn Byrd

Student Scholarly Projects

Practice Problem: Candidacy for transplant evaluation is a complex and lengthy evaluation process. Delays in National Organ Registry have significant unfavorable impacts on patient outcomes as 22 people a day die awaiting a lifesaving treatment. Operational efficiencies can improve the pre-transplant evaluation period and significantly improve patient outcomes.

PICOT: In an outpatient transplant clinic (P), will leveraging an evidence-based scheduling template (I) compared to the current practice of first available appointment (C) reduce the evaluation period by 66% from a 3–4-week evaluation to a 1-week evaluation resulting in expedited listing on the National Organ Registry (O), when applied over …

Physical Therapy Interventions And Outcomes In A Patient With Transfemoral Amputation Following Sound Side Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Case Report, Scott Love, Debra Gray, Jenna Yent, Michael Jason Highsmith Jan 2022

Physical Therapy Interventions And Outcomes In A Patient With Transfemoral Amputation Following Sound Side Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Case Report, Scott Love, Debra Gray, Jenna Yent, Michael Jason Highsmith

Physical Therapy Collection

Background: Following a transfemoral amputation (TFA), osteoarthritis (OA) on the sound limb may occur secondary to overuse. Potential causative factors include gait abnormalities, increased knee load, and performing hopping activities without a prosthesis. Unilateral TFA patients may require a total knee arthroplasty (TKA) to improve function.

Case Description and Methods: A 56-year-old male with a TFA who was diagnosed with left knee OA and was classified as a limited community ambulator underwent a TKA to restore function. The purpose of this case report is to determine the benefits of standard physical therapy (PT) augmented by a high intensity, whole-body …

Pediatric Sepsis-Development Of A Clinical Pathway For The Pediatric Emergency Department, Roslyn Lampkin-Smiley Jul 2021

Pediatric Sepsis-Development Of A Clinical Pathway For The Pediatric Emergency Department, Roslyn Lampkin-Smiley

Student Scholarly Projects

Globally, various researchers have suggested that sepsis is one of the most prominent causes of infant fatalities. Since 2004, countless guidelines have been developed to assist in the early identification and management of sepsis. The PICOT question that guided this project was: Does the implementation of a pediatric sepsis clinical pathway, compared with the standard protocol in emergency departments, decrease delays in treatment times of patients presenting with sepsis? Researchers have suggested that early recognition and interventions for septic patients can result in decreased mortality rates. A pediatric sepsis clinical pathway was implemented during this project. The pathway alerted staff …

Occupational Therapy’S Role In Addressing Sex And Intimacy For Individuals With Progressive Neuromuscular Disorders, Lindsay N. Richards, Becki Cohill, Katrhyn Ellis, Susan Macdermott Aug 2020

Occupational Therapy’S Role In Addressing Sex And Intimacy For Individuals With Progressive Neuromuscular Disorders, Lindsay N. Richards, Becki Cohill, Katrhyn Ellis, Susan Macdermott

San Marcos, Summer 2020

Individuals with progressive neuromuscular disorders (PND); specifically, Parkinson’s disease (PD), Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Huntington’s Disease (HD), and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) often face physical, psychological, and social challenges related to sex and intimacy. Occupational therapy (OT) practitioners are experts in activity analysis and are equipped with unique knowledge of performance skills and client factors to address deficits in occupational performance.

Though there is literature presenting the effects of PND on sexual occupations, a gap exists as it relates to qualitative data from the perspective of the individual and their partners. A mixed-methods survey was conducted examining the lived experience of …
