Endometriosis remains an under-researched disease with a wide range of symptoms. Endometriosis reduces a woman's quality of life and professional productivity, yet its exact causes, risk factors, and treatment have yet to be elucidated. Body mass index and endometriosis have been observed to be inversely related; however, this relationship may only be a correlation rather than a causation. Obesity may play a role in the inflammation and cell proliferation associated with endometriosis through the complex signaling pathways of adipokines. We previously constructed a qualitative, 3D ultrasound derived atlas of the normative spatiotemporal dynamics of fetal brain maturation. Here, using the same healthy multi-national cohort, we applied deep learning methods to 4205 fetal brain scans from 18–27 weeks’ gestation, to produce an extensive, quantitative description of the growth of 16 fetal brain structures associated with satisfactory domain-specific neurodevelopmental scores at 2 years of age. The methodology, which is publicly available, takes less than 10 seconds per scan. Introduction A complete anatomical survey during the mid-trimester ultrasound is critical for detecting fetal anomalies. In sub-Saharan Africa, detection rates remain low, contributing to a significant disease burden. This study evaluated whether implementing a standardized electronic checklist, based on existing guidelines, would improve image acquisition.

Methods We carried out a pre- and post-intervention quasi-experimental quality improvement study. An electronic checklist replaced the previous ultrasound report template. A baseline review involved 385 mid-trimester scans conducted between November 2022 and December 2023. STUDY OBJECTIVE: This multi-institutional, retrospective study explores the risks of laparoscopy for diagnosis and treatment of endometriosis to facilitate shared medical decision-making in patients age < 22 years old with chronic pain considering surgery.

METHODS: A retrospective review of patients less than 22 years old who had surgically proven endometriosis at eight pediatric hospitals was completed. Patient demographics, operative interventions, concurrent procedures, and complications were evaluated.

RESULTS: There were 284 patients with pathologically confirmed endometriosis with a median age of 16.86 years (15.51, 18.06). During the index procedure, diagnostic biopsy alone was performed (35.92%), followed by ablation (29.93%), excision (20.07%), excision and ablation (12.68%), and cryoablation (1.41%). Most common …

The objective of this review is to evaluate the effects of restrictive abortion laws on maternal mortality and morbidity in the United States. Even before the landmark reversal of Roe v. Wade, the US had one of the highest maternal mortality rates among other high-income countries, and rates are expected to continue to rise in states with restrictive abortion policies. Electronic databases and public health data were analyzed to assess clinical outcomes, access to care, and disparities associated with abortion restrictions nationally and internationally. Introduction: Pregnancy among the youth is in creasing not only in the Philippines but worldwide. Studies have shown that a short interpregnancy inter val of 18 months or less is associated with an in creased risk of fetal and maternal complications. However, limited data are available regarding fetal and maternal outcomes among pregnant youth with short interpregnancy intervals, particularly in the Philippines. Objectives: The objective of the study was to deter mine the association between a short interpregnancy interval of <18 months and adverse fetomaternal out comes among pregnant youth aged 15 to 24 years who had their first pregnancy at De La Salle Univer sity Medical Center (DLSUMC) from 2017 to 2019. Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study in volving 130 participants who delivered at DLSUMC from 2017 to 2019 either by vaginal spontaneous delivery, assisted vaginal delivery, or cesarean sec tion. Results: Of these, 84 (66.15%) were 22 to 24 years old and the majority had their first pregnancy at the age of 18 to 21 years (59 [45.38%]). This study demonstrated that preterm delivery, postpartum hem orrhage, and hypertension were significantly associ ated with a short interpregnancy interval. Conclusions: Short interpregnancy interval is associ ated with an increased risk of preterm delivery, hy pertension, and postpartum hemorrhage among mul tiparous pregnant youth. Counseling and proper edu cation, including family planning, are important for both maternal and fetal health. The use of different family planning methods should be discussed and made accessible to young women.

Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a genetic hemoglobinopathy that disproportionately affects individuals of African descent and is associated with elevated risks of maternal complications. However, the contribution of specific SCD genotypes to severe maternal morbidity (SMM) and postpartum readmission remains poorly characterized at the population level.

Objective

Sleep disorders in pregnancy have been associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes including hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, preterm birth, and gestational diabetes mellitus, yet these findings are largely from retrospective studies. Broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs) are advancing as a preventative or treatment option for HIV infection, but currently must be administered parenterally, typically as a large injection or infusion, an invasive method of delivery, especially for the pediatric population. Here, we present proof-of-concept data on a minimally invasive microneedle (MN) patch platform codelivering three bnAbs, PGT121, VRC07-523LS, and PGDM1400LS, from separate MN patch units or pixels. Background: Many studies have looked at the relationship between diabetes mellitus and development of endometrial cancer. This study provides an updated systematic review and meta-analysis of the estimated effect of diabetes and the risk of endometrial cancer.

Methods: Some studies were found on databases such as PubMed and Iceberg. The remaining studies were extracted from the initial studies found. Binary data was collected and the raw data was imputed into a Fixed Effects Model.

Results: A total of 25 studies were included in this meta-analysis, generating statistically significant results (p < 0.001, OR 2.05, 95% Cl 1.92-2.19).

Background Subcutaneous emphysema is the presence of air within subcutaneous tissues, often presenting as swelling and palpable crepitus. Air may spread along fascial planes and arise from traumatic, iatrogenic, infectious, or spontaneous sources. In laparoscopic surgery, it is most commonly related to carbon dioxide insufflation. Reported incidence following laparoscopic procedures ranges from 2% to 24%, depending on procedure type, surgical duration, insufflation pressure, and patient factors. INTRODUCTION: Sturge Weber Syndrome (SWS) is a rare congenital neurocutaneous disorder affecting capillary formation, classically presenting with a facial port-wine birthmark and seizures. Associated symptoms vary by individual but may include additional brain and eye manifestations such as cognitive impairment, headache, stroke-like episodes, and glaucoma or visual field defects. Because SWS results from a sporadic mutation, it does not carry specific contraindications to pregnancy regarding fetal risk. The HPV virus can cause multiple types of cancer including cervical, vaginal, vulvar, penile, anal, vaginal, and oropharyngeal. HPV vaccination has the potential to prevent majority of these cancers. Despite this, a large portion of the United States population remains unvaccinated. Objective

While some studies have shown that exercise reduces the incidence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), there is limited evidence on whether aerobic or resistance exercise is more beneficial. This study aimed to examine the rate of GDM according to the type of exercise during early pregnancy.

Study design

We analyzed data from the Nulliparous Pregnancy Outcomes Study: Monitoring Mothers-to-Be (nuMoM2b), a prospective cohort of individuals enrolled during the first and second trimesters. We excluded participants with pregestational diabetes or delivery < 20 weeks. The primary exposure was either aerobic or resistance exercises in the first or second trimester. For each trimester, the metabolic equivalent of task hours per week (MET-h/week) was calculated for each exercise. Participants were grouped as follows: "Aerobic exercise" (≥7.5 MET-h/week from aerobic exercises), "Resistance exercise" (≥2 times/week from resistance exercises), "Both types of exercise" (≥7.5 MET-h/week from aerobic exercise and ≥2 times/week from resistance exercises), and "Insufficient exercise" (≤7.5 MET-h/week from aerobic exercise and ≤2 times/week from resistance exercises). Our primary outcome was GDM. Adjusted relative risks (aRRs) with 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were calculated using modified Poisson regression, adjusting for potential confounders.

Background: Childbirth has become heavily reliant on pharmacological management and obstetric interventions such as epidural use, labor induction, and cesarean deliveries (C-sections) even among low-risk pregnancies. While necessary in some cases, excessive reliance on pharmacological interventions can negatively impact the experience of birthing as a whole. Objective:

To determine whether gestational vitamin D status modulates the effect of pre-pregnancy obesity on gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) risk while stratifying by maternal age.

Design:

Birth cohort.

Setting:

A major maternity hospital in Kuwait.

Participants:

Pregnant women in their second/third trimester of gestation were enrolled. Pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI, kg/m²) was categorized as under/normal weight (< 25.0), overweight (25.0 to < 30.0), and obesity (≥30.0). Gestational 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentrations were categorized as deficiency (< 50 nmol/L) or insufficiency/sufficiency (≥50 nmol/L). GDM status was ascertained according to international guidelines. Adjusted odds ratios (aOR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were estimated using logistic regression.

Results:

Data from 957 pregnant women were analyzed, with GDM affecting 166 (17.4%) pregnancies. Pre-pregnancy obesity and gestational vitamin D deficiency was ascertained in 275 (28.7%) and 533 (55.7%) pregnant women, respectively.
