Intrauterine device (IUD) insertions and endometrial biopsies (EMB) can be painful in office gynecological procedures. In the clinical setting used for this evidence-based project (EBP) it was noted there was no consistent pain management being used for these procedures. For this EBP project a protocol for pain management during IUD insertions and EMBs was developed and implemented into this clinical setting. The protocol was created from an exhaustive literature search, which yielded six pieces of high-level evidence of good quality. Purpose: Previous reports indicate many women may not have a firm grasp on likely outcomes of different hysterectomy procedures. This study aimed to assess women’s self-reported expectations of how they think their anatomy will change after hysterectomy.

Methods: Women scheduled for hysterectomy at a tertiary care hospital, for non-oncological reasons, reported their planned procedure type and the organs they understood would be removed 2 weeks prior to surgery. Patient reports and electronic medical records were reviewed, and kappa statistics (κ) were calculated to assess agreement for all women and within subgroups.

The prevalence of maternal morbidities continues to increase in U.S. women of lower socioeconomic status and non-Hispanic Black women despite the efforts of health care practitioners to reduce the disparities. Two decades of research has shown that physicians avoid patients based on insurance and socioeconomic status or their malpractice history. Reducing maternal illness and complications is one of the federal government's top 10 maternal health indicators in the Healthy People 2020 initiative. Objective: To identify the incidence of spontaneous preterm birth (SPTB) and indications for delivery in women with twin pregnancy stratified by chorionicity (monochorionic diamniotic and dichorionic diamniotic pregnancy).

Study Design: Multicenter retrospective cohort of all consecutive twin gestations from 2010 to 2017. They were stratified by chorionicity monochorionic diamniotic and dichorionic diamniotic pregnancy: Primary outcome was SPTB < 37 weeks. Secondary outcome was SPTB at <34, 32, and <28 weeks, gestational age at delivery and indications for delivery: maternal and fetal. Analysis: t-test, Fisher’s exact test and multivariable logistic regression.

Results: 510 women with twin pregnancies were identified. 158 (30.9%) were monochorionic diamniotic pregnancies, and 352 (69.0%) were dichorionic pregnancies. A massive retroperitoneal hematoma caused by a retroperitoneal ectopic pregnancy is managed successfully utilizing multidisciplinary cooperation and transfusion of blood products. The authors report an unusual case of a retroperitoneal ectopic pregnancy presenting as a massive retroperitoneal hematoma in a hemodynamically unstable patient.

Objective The purpose of this study was to review the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists practices bulletins to quantify the type of recommendations and references and determining whether there are any differences between obstetric and gynecologic bulletins. Study design All practice bulletins published from June 1998 to December 2004 were reviewed. Odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals were calculated. Results The 55 practice bulletins contained 438 recommendations of which 29% are level A, 33% level B, and 38% level C. $\beta\sb2$-Adrenoceptor ($\beta\sb2$-AR) agonists, such as terbutaline, are used as tocolytic agents in the treatment of preterm labor. $\beta$-Adrenoceptor stimulation relaxes myometrium through specific receptors coupled through Gs to adenylyl cyclase (AC) that catalyzes the conversion of ATP to cAMP. The purpose of this study was to compare $\beta$-adrenoceptors and cAMP production in cultured human leukocytes and myometrial cells, and to determine the importance of $\beta$-adrenoceptors and cAMP production in isoproterenol-induced myometrial relaxation. $\sp{125}$I-iodopindolol was used to assess $\beta$-adrenoceptor affinity and number cAMP levels were analyzed before and after stimulation by isoproterenol, AlF$\sb4\sp-$, forskolin, and PGE$\sb1$. Herman Walter Johnson was born in Andover, Vermont, August 2, 1883 and died November 14, 1958. He graduated from the University of Buffalo Medical School, New York in 1905. He was Professor and Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine.

In his autobiography Dr. Johnson discussed his life, the progress of obstetrics and gynecology and his tenure at Baylor College of Medicine.
