Objective: Late diagnosis of cyanotic congenital heart defects (CCHD) significantly increases newborn morbidity and mortality. However, a significant percentage of CCHD cases remain undetected prenatally. Our objectives were therefore to evaluate the accuracy of maternal serum lipidomic markers for the prenatal detection of CCHD and also to elucidate the pathogenesis of these disorders. Study Design: This prospective case-control study included 40 cases of CHD (22 cyanotic, 18 acyanotic) and 39 unaffected controls. Maternal serum samples were profiled via a combination of Ultra-High-Performance Liquid Chromatography coupled with Mass Spectrometry and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. Uterine fibroids are benign tumors composed of smooth muscle cells and connective tissue that develop within or on the walls of the uterus. Despite being non-cancerous, they can severely affect quality of life by causing heavy bleeding, chronic pain, and reproductive complications. Fibroids are typically found in women of reproductive age, but they disproportionately affect Black women, who experience higher incidence and severity. Background: The incidence of low birth weight (LBW) has not substantially fallen over time despite advances in medical interventions. LBW has been linked to several chronic diseases in adulthood including type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and cardiovascular disease (CVD), making it a particularly salient public health issue.
Objective: To examine socioeconomic factors and diseases associated with LBW in Ohio between 2016-2022.

Hypothalamic amenorrhea (HA) accounts for approximately 30% of total cases of secondary amenorrhea in women of reproductive age. HA is defined as the absence of menses due to inadequate secretion of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) by the hypothalamus leading to lack of secretion of gonadotropins from the anterior pituitary gland and steroid hormones from the ovaries. This feedback loop, called the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis, regulates reproductive activity in animals and humans. When this system is disrupted in females due to a hormonal imbalance, menstrual abnormalities may emerge. Social determinants of health have been used to explore associations with pregnancy outcomes and the birth weight of infants; however, research employing individually based social risk measures has not examined associations among underserved populations, including pregnant persons at community health centers. Data were collected from a sample (n = 345) of pregnant persons who sought care at a community health center between January 2019 and December 2020. Social risks of pregnant patients were measured using the PRAPARE tool. Introduction: Preterm and low birth weight (LBW) infants are at an increased risk of morbidity and mortality compared with their term counterparts, with more than 20 million LBW infants born each year, the majority in lower middle-income countries (LMICs). Given the increased vulnerability and higher nutritional needs of these infants, optimizing feeding strategies may play a crucial role in improving their health outcomes.
Methods: We updated evidence of Every Newborn Series published in The Lancet 2014 by identifying relevant systematic reviews, extracting low-income country (LIC) and LMIC data, and conducting revised meta-analysis for these contexts.

Extended hospitalization in the postpartum period is occasionally medically indicated due to a variety of diagnoses, but can pose challenges to the psychosocial well-being of pregnant women, such as social isolation, anxiety, alteration of normal life routines, and less preparation for postpartum life. In acute care settings, however, maternal management tends to focus on physical stabilization rather than holistic maternal care, including opportunities for emotional support, occupational engagement, and postpartum planning. Objective: The incidence and mortality of endometrial cancer is increasing. After surgical staging, patients with high-risk disease often undergo adjuvant treatment, which may include systemic therapy, radiation therapy, or combined modalities. Patients in rural Appalachia have limited access to subspecialty care needed for optimal disease management. This study aims to compare adjuvant treatment regimens and outcomes among patients with high-risk endometrial cancer living in Appalachian and non-Appalachian regions.

Black maternal mortality in the United States is a public health crisis. There are a plethora of reasons as to why maternal and fetal deaths disproportionately impact Black women. [First paragraph] Transoral robotic surgery (TORS) for the treatment of oropharyngeal cancer has become centered at tertiary referral centers. To avoid treatment delays or multiple anesthetics, the need for repeat operative endoscopy may be questioned when the diagnosis has been made at an outside institution. However, inadequate visualization of relevant anatomy can preclude TORS candidacy and may lead to procedure abortion or conversion to an open technique.²,³ To evaluate this dilemma, we explored the ability to assess oropharyngeal exposure for TORS candidacy via operative endoscopic photo-documentation.
