Are D-Mannose Pills An Effective Form Of Prophylaxis For Women Prone To Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections?, Kasey L. O'Leary
PCOM Physician Assistant Studies Student Scholarship
Objective: The objective of this selective EBM review is to determine whether or not are D-mannose pills an effective form of prophylaxis for women prone to recurrent urinary tract infections?
Study Design: Systematic review of three randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published between 2014-2016, all in the English language.
Data Sources: Three randomized controlled trials (RCTs) which evaluated the effectiveness of D-mannose as prophylaxis against recurrent UTI in women as compared to control groups either given no prophylaxis and or antibiotic prophylaxis. All studies were found using PubMed and the Cochrane library.
Outcomes Measured: All three studies measured the number of …
Is The Combined Oral Contraceptive Treatment Of 150 Mcg Levonorgestrel And 30 Mcg Ethinyl Estradiol Effective In Preventing Bothersome Unscheduled Uterine Bleeding?, Brandi L. Parker
PCOM Physician Assistant Studies Student Scholarship
Objective: The objective of this selective evidence-based medicine (EBM) review is to determine whether or not the combined oral contraceptive treatment of 150 mcg levonorgestrel and 30 mcg ethinyl estradiol is effective in preventing unscheduled uterine bleeding.
Study Design: Review of two randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and one post hoc analysis, published after 2014 all in the English language.
Data Sources: Two randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and one post hoc analysis, all of which evaluate the efficacy of the combined oral contraceptive (COC) treatment of 150 mcg levonorgestrel and 30 mcg ethinyl estradiol in preventing bothersome unscheduled uterine bleeding. In …
Comparing Screening And Treatment Of Bacterial Vaginosis And Pregnancy Outcomes, Stephanie Severson
Comparing Screening And Treatment Of Bacterial Vaginosis And Pregnancy Outcomes, Stephanie Severson
Physician Assistant Scholarly Project Papers
Despite evidence that bacterial vaginosis can lead to poor perinatal outcomes the consensus remains against a screening and treatment protocol for all pregnant women. Due to variability in a multitude of factors, a generalized recommendation is difficult to make. There are inconsistencies among stage of gestation that screening took place and treatment selection. The multiple variables in demographics also make providing best practice recommendations difficult. Lack of recommendations are largely due to harm of treatment in those who were misdiagnosed. The development of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) has the capability to reduce misdiagnosis. Newer studies have shown benefit of early …
The Maternal Health Behaviours Of Non-Irish Nationals During Pregnancy And The Effect Of Time Living In Ireland, R. Palmer, R. Layte, John Kearney
The Maternal Health Behaviours Of Non-Irish Nationals During Pregnancy And The Effect Of Time Living In Ireland, R. Palmer, R. Layte, John Kearney
Articles
Objectives Maternal health behaviours (MHBs) can influence pregnancy outcomes. Despite efforts internationally to encourage positive MHBs, women often fail to comply with pregnancy guidelines. International studies show differences in MHBs between nationalities and an effect of time spent in the host country. There is limited Irish data in this area, with no previous research relating to the effect of time in Ireland.
Study design This study is a cross-sectional analysis of the Growing Up in Ireland infant cohort, a nationally representative longitudinal study. Methods Examination of the MHBs of non-Irish nationals during pregnancy and the effect of time in Ireland …

Incidence And Contributing Factors Of Glucose Intolerance In Saudi Postpartum Women: Sub-Group Analysis From Rahma Study, Hayfaa Wahabi, Amel Fayed, Safaa M. S. T Tunkar, Ali Al-Hazmi, Amna R. Siddiqui
Community Health Sciences
Objectives: The objectives of this study were to determine incidence and risk factors of glucose intolerance one year after delivery in a sub-cohort of Riyadh Mother and Baby Cohort Study (RAHMA) study.
Methods: This is a follow-up study of a sub-cohort from RAHMA study from King Khalid University Hospital (KKUH). All women from RAHMA database who completed one year since delivery at KKUH were contacted by phone to participate in the study. Previously collected data from RAHMA registry for each participant were linked to this study data. Clinical data measured for each participant included current weight and height to calculate …
