Background: Mild traumatic brain injuries (mTBI) or concussions account for high rates of emergency department (ED) visits. Concussion diagnoses are used less often in young children leading to a variability in parental education and discharge instructions. Lack of discharge guidance may increase parental anxiety, impact recovery, and increase ED visits.
Objectives: To increase the proportion of ED patients discharged with age-appropriate instructions for mTBI by 50% by June 1, 2024, and to determine the impact age-appropriate instructions have on decreasing parental anxiety.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is difficult to detect in the surrounding environment due to its colorless, odorless, and tasteless properties. Patients acutely poisoned with CO can have a myriad of presentations including headache, dizziness, and critical illness— all with a mortality rate up to 3%. We report a case of a 45-year-old female who presented with intentional Baclofen overdose. The patient was lethargic and then quickly unresponsive and hypotensive, intubated by EMS in the field. By the time the patient was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the patient was clinically brain dead. After several days of supportive care, patient slowly, and miraculously, regained full neurologic functioning and was admitted to the Psychiatric Unit.

Pneumocephalus (pneumatocele or intracranial aerocele) is defined as the presence of air in the intracranial space and most commonly occurs after a traumatic event (most commonly head or facial injury), epidural injection, cranial surgery, However, it may also be spontaneous. Classified into simple and tension types, the presentation varies based on severity and progression. Meningitis is the inflammation of the meninges and associated with abnormal cell count in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The lack of bacterial growth in cultures, most commonly referred to as aseptic meningitis, is frequently caused by viruses [2]. Viruses have become more common as the prevalence of bacterial meningitis has decreased secondary to vaccination use, with viral meningitis being the most common form among countries. Deep learning is a method of artificial intelligence involving progressively layered neural networks to extrapolate patterns from data to provide predictions. Moreover, given the arduous nature required for examining CT scans for intracranial aneurysms, discovering ways to expedite this process is beneficial. The use of deep learning to evaluate CT angiograms for intracranial aneurysms has been sparsely studied. This literature review aims to determine the accuracy and reliability of deep learning to analyze CT angiograms in patients suspected to have intracranial aneurysms.

Introduction: Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) is a common problem in the elderly population after undergoing anesthesia that results in sometimes irreversible cognitive and physical impairment that can increase mortality and decrease quality of life.
Methods: To see the relationship between preoperative fitness capacity and how this relates to postoperative cognitive ability a literature review was performed. Studies that were included involved populations older than sixty years old that had undergone anesthesia. Background: The blood-brain barrier (BBB) is responsible for maintaining brain homeostasis and ultimately proper neuronal function. Disruption of the BBB, leading to increased BBB permeability, has been reported in several neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Lipoxins (LXs) are a class of arachidonate-derived eicosanoids, which are a class of specialized pro-resolving lipid mediators (SPMs). SPMs are known to inhibit immune response through inhibition of cellular infiltration, downregulation of pro-inflammatory mediators and upregulation of anti-inflammatory mediators. Pituitary adenomas are common neoplasms arising from the pituitary adenohypophyseal cell. They can be classified by cell type, size and as nonfunctioning or functioning based on the secretion of pituitary hormones. Of these, approximately 48% are macroadenomas (>10 mm) and approximately 53% are prolactinomas. For how common these adenomas are, only 1 of 1100 persons manifest clinical symptoms1 rendering detection and clinical management challenging.

Psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES) are defined as involuntary experiential and behavioral responses to internal or external stimuli. They are behaviors, not associated with pathological alterations in the physiology of the brain. Although some of them mimic syncope, they have historically been regarded to clinically resemble epileptic episodes.
There is a multiplicity of different names for this condition. PNES is the most widely used term, though the term "functional seizures" is increasingly used. Alternatives such as "psychogenic seizures," "dissociative seizures," "psychogenic nonepileptic attacks" (PNEA), and "nonepileptic seizures" are also used.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate whether athletic status was linked to fewer symptoms of anxiety and depression post-concussion, as well as to explore whether the impact of athletic status on mental health varied by demographics (i.e. age, sex, race, insurance status). Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a prevalent and devastating neurodegenerative disorder that causes progressively worsening motor symptoms affecting locomotor and oropharyngeal function. There is limited research in animal models on swallowing dysfunction in PD. To examine how neurodegeneration in PD produces progressive impairment in the oropharyngeal and locomotor processes, rotenone, a type II mitochondrial inhibitor, was injected into Lewis rat models to reproduce a parkinsonian phenotype. We hypothesized that the animal models injected with the rotenone will exhibit both oropharyngeal dysfunction and locomotor deficiency with an increased deficit that correlates with prolonged treatment. Background: Those suffering from Parkinson’s Disease often experience a shuffling gait, alongside many other symptoms, due to the degradation of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. Transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) operates by non-invasively applying an electrical current to the cutaneous receptive field formed by the auricular branch of the vagus nerve in the outer ear. We sought to determine if taVNS would serve as a non-invasive alternative to addressing Parkinson’s related gait dysfunction.

We report a case of a 64-year-old male who presented with transient episodes of near syncope followed by a noxious odor and was diagnosed with olfactory seizures. The differential diagnosis for near syncope is broad. This case demonstrates that unusual olfactory symptoms can lead to a diagnosis of seizure disorder in the emergency department.

Spontaneous intracranial hemorrhage is rare, especially in a young patient population. Signs and symptoms of intracranial hemorrhage include facial droop, vision loss, motor deficits with extraocular movements, deficits with tongue movement, weakness in the arms or legs, sensation loss, and mental status change. This is a case report of a 29-year-old male with no past medical history who presented for a spontaneous intracranial hemorrhage. Meningoencephalitis is a broad range of symptoms as a sequela of inflammation of the CNS system. It is a diagnosis that is often missed, especially in atypical presentations. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the major causes of morbidity in the US [1-4]. Studies suggest TBI patients’ enrollment in a rehabilitation program strongly predicts social reintegration. The structure and outcomes of inpatient rehabilitation programs, including acute and subacute rehabilitation, are not well-delineated [5-7].

Alzheimer's disease (AD) and MCI are a major concern in modern neuropsychiatric care, chiefly for their difficult management. This strategic literature review categorizes MCI via the Jak-Bondi criteria and relates it to tES treatment paradigms. Commonly used outcome measures and regional brain mapping data synergizes associations between MCI pathology and potential tES treatment targets. Effect sizes were calculated and attributed to outcome measures based on primary articles evaluating the efficacy of tES. These were then corresponded to a desired Jack-Bondi classification. Canavan disease (CD) is an inherited leukodystrophy caused by inactivating mutations to the glial enzyme aspartoacylase (ASPA). ASPA catabolizes neuronal N-acetylaspartate (NAA) into free acetate and aspartate and loss of this function results in the chronic elevation of non-catabolized NAA and the failure of developmental myelination. Elevated NAA is thought to cause damage to myelin and myelin-producing cells (oligodendrocytes, but the viability of neurons in CD is relatively unexplored. The SARS-CoV-2 virus, responsible for the covid-19 pandemic, has had profound effects on countries worldwide. As the pandemic progressed, clinical and patient data continued to mount. A subset of symptoms named “Long Covid Syndrome” persisted in patients after recovering from infection. One commonly reported but understudied symptom was a deficit in memory function. Although commonly reported, prevalence of ‘brain fog’ has yet to be characterized using patient data. Colloid cysts are benign growths commonly found in the third ventricle or at the Foramen of Monroe. They are composed of epithelial lining filled with gelatinous material that contain cholesterol, mucin, old blood and ions. Most colloid cysts are asymptomatic but can present with a variety of symptoms that range from headaches, diplopia, memory problems, and vertigo. They can also present as an obstructive hydrocephalus with the classic “Wet, wacky and wobbly” triad. Rarely colloid cysts have been reported to cause sudden death. They can present to the ED with any spectrum of these symptoms.

Background: People with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) undergo progressive motor, cognitive, and psychosocial symptoms, which decrease their quality of life (QOL). Adapted tango (AT) has recently emerged as a promising approach to ameliorating functional mobility, balance, and gait seen in people with PD.
Methods: A comprehensive literature review is conducted using databases such as PubMed, SCOPUS, and Embase. A wide variety of search terms are used, including but not limited to Parkinson’s disease, exercise, dance, tango, motor, cognitive, psychosocial effects, freezing of gait, and balance.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig disease, is a fatal neurodegenerative disease affecting motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. Progressive muscle weakness, atrophy, and spasticity characterize the condition, which eventually leads to paralysis and respiratory failure. There is currently no cure for ALS, and the standard of care is supportive, with riluzole being the only approved medication that has been shown to slightly slow disease progression (1).
