Hubungan Skor Rale Gambaran Foto Toraks Dengan Kadar D-Dimer Pada Pasien Covid-19, Marsa Zaidan, Arifin Arifin, Sulistyani Kusumaningrum, Ratih Tri Kusuma Dewi

Jurnal Penyakit Dalam Indonesia

Introduction. COVID-19 pneumonia caused by SARS-CoV-2 leads to extensive pulmonary infiltrates. The Radiographic Assessment of Lung Edema (RALE) score is a quantitative radiological tool to evaluate the severity of lung lesions. Meanwhile, elevated D-dimer levels reflect coagulation and fibrinolysis activation. This study aimed to analyze the correlation between the initial RALE score on chest radiography and D-dimer levels upon hospital admission.

Methods. An analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted on hospitalized COVID-19 patients at Dr. Moewardi Hospital, Surakarta, from March to July 2021. A total of 98 patients were selected via simple random sampling based …

Chulalongkorn Medical Journal

Introduction: The accurate prediction of stem cell yields is important for planning peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) collection. This study aimed to develop a formula forecasting required blood volume processing to ensure adequate CD34+ cell products.

Methods: Data from donors and patients who underwent PBSC apheresis conducted at a tertiary care hospital were reviewed. BD FACSCanto™ II and Navios EX flow cytometry machines were used to determine the pre-collection CD34+ cell counts (preCD34).

Results: Of 50 donors and 85 patients, 145 leukapheresis procedures were performed. Linear regression models accurately predicted absolute CD34+ cell yields from pre-apheresis values, supporting optimal procedural …

Machine Learning In Flow Cytometry For Acute Myeloid Leukemia Diagnosis: A Scoping Review, Katrina Jezzela M. Dela Pena Md, Mls (Ascp)

Other Specialties

Manuscript version:

Introduction: Flow cytometry is essential for the diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), but conventional analysis is labor-intensive, operator-dependent, and increasingly complex. Machine learning (ML) may support automated analysis; however, its readiness for clinical implementation remains unclear. This scoping review mapped ML approaches applied to flow cytometry for AML-related diagnosis.

Methods: PubMed was searched for English-language primary studies applying artificial intelligence, ML, or deep learning to human flow cytometry data for AML diagnosis or classification. Eligible studies reported diagnostic performance metrics. Study characteristics, preprocessing, data representation, model architecture, validation strategy, performance metrics, interpretability, and implementation considerations were descriptively …

The Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (ADLM) aims to improve health by providing education to laboratory scientists worldwide. Different regions of the world face unique challenges shaped by their national and regional contexts. However, the needs of clinical laboratories worldwide remain largely understudied. To address this gap, we conducted a comprehensive needs assessment survey among laboratory professionals in the Latin American region. The survey was distributed to over 2708 individuals across Latin American countries and yielded 148 responses. Most respondents were from urban areas (74%) and worked in private hospital laboratories (45%), with microbiology (25%) and chemistry (23%) identified …

Validation Of A Real-Time Pcr Laboratory Developed Test For The Detection Of Pneumocystis Jirovecii In Bronchoalveolar Lavage Samples, Caitlyn Moon

Honors Scholar Theses

Pneumocystis jirovecii is an opportunistic, host-obligate fungal pathogen responsible for causing P. jirovecii pneumonia (PJP) in humans. PJP is treated with trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMP-SMX), a strong broad-spectrum antibiotic that carries risk of renal and hepatotoxicity. Therefore, rapid diagnosis or exclusion of PJP is crucial to ensure PJP-positive patients receive effective treatment and PJP-negative patients avoid unnecessary antibiotics. Unlike most microorganisms, P. jirovecii cannot be cultured, presenting complications for the typical methods of diagnosing fungal pathogens. Historically, the gold standard for diagnosis was direct microscopic examination with stains such as methenamine silver and calcofluor white, but this diagnostic technique requires highly skilled …

This study examined the feasibility of extracting DNA from various personal items using the phenol–chloroform–isoamyl alcohol (PCIA) method. A towel, collared shirt, toothbrush, shower puff, comb, hair tie, and buccal swabs were analyzed. The quality of the DNA extraction, along with DNA concentration, purity, and suitability for multiplex PCR amplification, were evaluated. The shower puff exhibited the highest DNA concentration (68.35 ng/µL), whereas the collared shirt yielded the lowest (26.43 ng/µL). All samples exhibited good DNA purity (A260 nm/A280 nm ranging from 1.827 to 1.985), emphasizing the potential of this method for forensic analysis. Factors influencing DNA concentration included material …

BACKGROUND: High-sensitivity cardiac troponin (hs-cTn) assays performed in the central laboratory have long turnaround times. This study evaluates the clinical performance of a novel bedside point-of-care (POC) hs-cTnI assay (i-STAT® hs-TnI) to aid in the diagnosis of myocardial infarction (MI).

METHODS: A prospective multisite cohort study involving emergency department (ED) patients with symptoms suggestive of acute coronary syndrome was conducted at 28 sites across the United States. Serial whole blood samples were collected at 0-1 h and >1-3 h from ED presentation. Primary outcome was MI or non-MI. Sensitivity, specificity, and negative predictive value (NPV) for MI were calculated with …
