Measuring The Prevalence Of Microcytosis Of Red Blood Cells Among Different Pediatric Age Groups. A Retrospective Study., Sarah Mohammad Atef Mostafa, Mary Shaker Zakher Gerges

Journal of Medicine in Scientific Research

Aim: Detect the prevalence of microcytosis of red blood cells (RBCs) and pattern of morphological classification of anemia among different paediatric age groups during their visit to the out-patient clinics in the hospital. Methods: An observational study was carried out during the period from January 2022 to April 2023. All pediatric patients (aged from day one to18years old) complete blood count (CBC) reports recorded on the hospital laboratory outpatient’s database were included. Age, gender, and RBCs parameters; haemoglobin, red cell distribution width (RDW) and mean corpuscular volume (MCV) were collected, percentages of distribution of microcytosis and type of anemia among …

Importance

It remained unclear that the efficacy comparison between low‐dose immune tolerance induction (LD‐ITI) incorporating immunosuppressants (IS) when severe hemophilia A (SHA) patients had inhibitor‐titer ≥200 Bethesda Units (BU)/mL (LD‐ITI‐IS200 regimen) and LD‐ITI combining with IS when SHA patients had inhibitor‐titer ≥40 BU/mL (LD‐ITI‐IS40 regimen).

Objective

To compare the efficacy of the LD‐ITI‐IS200 regimen with that of the LD‐ITI‐IS40 regimen for SHA patients with high‐titer inhibitors.

Methods

A prospective cohort study on patients receiving LD‐ITI‐IS200 compared to those receiving LD‐ITI‐IS40 from January 2021 to December 2023. Both received LD‐ITI [FVIII 50 IU/kg every other day]. IS (rituximab + prednisone) was …

Importance The prevalence, pathophysiology, and long-term outcomes of COVID-19 (post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 [PASC] or “Long COVID”) in children and young adults remain unknown. Studies must address the urgent need to define PASC, its mechanisms, and potential treatment targets in children and young adults. Observations We describe the protocol for the Pediatric Observational Cohort Study of the NIH’s REsearching COVID to Enhance Recovery (RECOVER) Initiative. RECOVER-Pediatrics is an observational meta-cohort study of caregiver-child pairs (birth through 17 years) and young adults (18 through 25 years), recruited from more than 100 sites across the US. This report focuses on two of …

OBJECTIVES AND METHODS: We analyzed upper endoscopic and histological findings in 3 cohorts of children undergoing upper gastrointestinal endoscopy over a 10-year period. Five hundred seventy-nine patients were identified, with 244 (42%), 199 (35%), and 136 (23%) in the 2011, 2015, and 2019 cohorts, respectively. The most common symptoms and signs were abdominal pain, vomiting, failure to thrive, and diarrhea.

RESULTS: The number of patients who had histological evidence of chronic gastritis increased from 2011 (n = 70, 29%) to 2015 (n = 106, 53%) and 2019 (n = 92, 68%;

CONCLUSIONS: There has been a significant rise in the …

Injured Proximal Tubules Stain Positivity For Arginase-1 To Indicate Acute Tubular Injury (Ati), Jessica Anderson, Neal Blatt, Olabisi Afolayan-Oloye, Hassan Kanaan, Wei Li, Larysa Wickman, Ping Zhang

Conference Presentation Abstracts

Background: A recent study indicates that arginase-1 participates in M2 macrophage-mediated renal tubular regeneration in a rodent model (Shin et al. JASN 2022). As injured proximal tubule cells have a phagocytotic capacity (stain positively for CD68 and kidney injury moleucule-1 in previous studies), we hypothesized that the injured proximal tubules may stain positively for arginase1. Design: We analyzed PAS-stained renal biopsy sections for evidence of ATI using a semiquantitative scale: 0 (no injury) to 1-2+ (mild to moderate ATI) to 3+ (severe ATI). First group (N=7) consisted of renal biopsies that had no evidence of ATI or were obtained from …

BACKGROUND: Physical activity can increase joint stability and reduce the risk of injury in hemophilia patients. There is limited clinical data on target trough FVIII levels during physical activity in hemophilia A patients. Hence, this study aimed to explore the target trough FVIII level required to avoid bleeding during different physical activities in hemophilia A patients.

METHODS: Patients with severe or moderate hemophilia A, who underwent pharmacokinetics (PK) tests at our center were enrolled in this study. Physical activities and clinical information such as bleeding were recorded. The FVIII level during physical activity was calculated by the WAPPS-Hemo.

RESULTS: A …
