Ectopic parathyroid tumors are uncommon, accounting for only 6% of parathyroid adenomas, and even fewer cases are attributed to parathyroid carcinomas. While ectopic parathyroid carcinoma in the anterior mediastinum is a rare condition, the occurrence of recurrent skeletal fractures in the presence of mild hypercalcemia is even rarer. In this report, we present the case of a 52-year-old man with a medical history of hypertension, chronic kidney disease, and a previous right-sided intertrochanteric fracture of the femur one year earlier. Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA), previously known as Churg Strauss syndrome, is a rare small vessel vasculitis characterized by asthma, eosinophilia, and systemic involvement. This case report presents a 51-year-old man with a history of asthma, who presented with neurological symptoms including blurring of vision, bilateral ptosis, and altered sensorium. The patient had a previous history of cervical and lumbar spine surgeries for symptoms attributed to spondylosis. Further examination revealed hyperpigmented lesions on the limbs, wasting of small muscles, and foot drop.

Fatigue is a common patient concern at primary care visits and can persist after addressing etiologies such as anemia, infection, malignancy, depression and cardiopulmonary disorders. Micronutrient deficiencies have also been investigated in fatigue patients, particularly individual vitamins such as C, D, B12, E and the mineral zinc. Fewer studies have investigated broad panels of micronutrients in fatigue patients. The Beaumont Integrative Medicine Clinic evaluates many patients with fatigue and assesses micronutrient levels using SpectraCell testing which measures 31 vitamin, mineral and metabolite levels concurrently.

Despite the widespread availability of effective vaccines, new cases of infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2, the cause of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), remain a concern in the settings of vaccine hesitancy and vaccine breakthrough. In this randomized, controlled, phase 2 trial, we hypothesized that high-dose ascorbic acid delivered intravenously to achieve pharmacologic concentrations may target the high viral phase of COVID-19 and thus improve early clinical outcomes. There is a growing interest in the potential beneficial effects of mindfulness meditation training in protecting against age-related physical, emotional, and cognitive decline. The current prospective, single-center, single-arm study investigated if functional magnetic resonance imaging-based changes in cerebral blood flow and brain functional connectivity could be observed in 11 elderly adults (mean age 79) after participation in a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program. The results showed significantly (p < 0.05) altered cerebral blood flow and functional connectivity in the cingulate gyrus, limbic structures, and subregions of the temporal and frontal lobes, similar to findings of other meditation-related studies in younger populations. Furthermore, these changes were also associated with significant improvements in depression symptoms. This study suggests that the MBSR program can potentially modify cerebral blood flow and connectivity in this population.

Men are more likely to develop cancer than women. In fact, male predominance is one of the most consistent cancer epidemiology findings. Additionally, men have a poorer prognosis and an increased risk of secondary malignancies compared to women. These differences have been investigated in order to better understand cancer and to better treat both men and women.
