Background: Metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), including metabolic dysfunction–associated steatohepatitis (MASH), is a leading cause of chronic liver disease worldwide. Current guidelines recommend fibrosis-based risk stratification using noninvasive tools such as the Fibrosis-4 (FIB-4) index in patients with metabolic risk factors, followed by secondary assessment (e.g., transient elastography or enhanced liver fibrosis(ELF) testing) for those with elevated scores. However, data on the real-world prevalence of elevated FIB-4 in U.S. primary care populations, particularly in safety-net settings, and the downstream implications for fibrosis evaluation remain limited. Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is an aggressive, largely chemo-resistant cancer with a poor prognosis and is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Currently, there is no effective systemic chemotherapy for HCC. Sorafenib is a multikinase inhibitor commonly used as the first-line treatment for advanced HCC. However, acquired drug resistance significantly limits its clinical effectiveness. The Y-box binding protein (YBX1) is an oncogenic RNA-binding protein found to be upregulated in sorafenib-resistant HCC cells and tissues.

Background: The presence of chyle in the pleural space is termed chylothorax. Etiologies include traumatic (iatrogenic, blunt, or penetrating injury) and non-traumatic (non-malignant and malignant). Liver cirrhosis is a rare cause of non-traumatic, nonmalignant chylothorax. We describe a case of a transudative chylothorax in a patient with cirrhosis and hepatic hydrothorax.

Case presentation: A 72-year-old woman presents with complaints of shortness of breath for 7 days, altered mental status, and abdominal distention. Introduction: Metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a descriptive term for NAFLD (Non-alcoholic) physiopathology associated with obesity. The age of onset linked to body fat distribution is poorly studied. Therefore, we aimed to assess the body fat effect on liver fat infiltration and stiffness (LSt) mediated by insulin resistance (IR).

Methods: After obtaining informed consent, five hundred freshmen from two universities in Reynosa, Mexico (UMAN & UAT) were enrolled in the study. Background: Hepatopulmonary syndrome is a severe complication of end-stage liver disease characterized by triad of liver disease, intrapulmonary vascular dilatation, and arterial hypoxemia. Although the pathogenesis is not completely understood, pulmonary vascular dilatation occurs due to imbalance between vasodilators and vasoconstrictors. Liver injury is thought to increase endothelin production and cause bacterial translocation, causing increased nitric oxide production, causing vasodilation of pulmonary vasculature. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a primary malignant liver tumor that commonly occurs as a progression of chronic liver inflammation due to long-standing viral hepatitis infection, toxins, metabolic conditions, and congenital disorders. In 2018, HCC was the 4th leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, accounting for approximately 780,000 deaths in total.
