BACKGROUND: Given the limited evidence available, the impact of nasogastric (NG) tube placement on swallowing in children is not well understood. When a child needs to be fed enterally, the current standard is to initially place an NG tube and leave it in place for the first few months of supplemental or total enteral nutrition. Large lesions have traditionally been removed surgically. However, with recent innovations in advanced endoscopy, GISTs located within the stomach are now removed endoscopically. The condition most commonly occurs between the ages of 10 and 20 years with a lifetime risk of 8.6% and 6.7% for males and females respectively. The present study was to bridge this gap in knowledge by evaluating the relationship between depression, liver disease and weight change after LT. Weight gain after liver transplantation (LT) is common, particularly in patients transplanted for NASH cirrhosis, and is associated with reduced survival. In non-LT patients, presence and sub-optimal management of depression is closely associated with weight gain and obesity. Polycystic liver disease (PCLD) is a rare condition that most often occurs in patients with polycystic kidney disease and less commonly as an isolated liver disease. Complications include cyst rupture, infection, hemorrhage, and compression of surrounding organs by large cysts. We present the case of a patient with a history of PCLD who presented to our hospital with palpitations and was found to have atrial fibrillation. Imaging and echocardiograph revealed a dominant large cyst compressing the right atrium. High-resolution esophageal manometry (HRM) has become the gold standard to diagnose esophageal motility disorders. Usually, this procedure is performed by introducing the catheter, which has pressure sensors, into the esophagus and proximal stomach via the nares. Repeated coiling of the catheter and inability to pass through the gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) are common challenges encountered. Wernicke's encephalopathy (WE) is a neurological complication of thiamine deficiency characterized by a triad of acute confusion, ataxia, and ophthalmoplegia. Even though it is most common in chronic alcoholism, an increase in prevalence has been reported recently due to the increased popularity of bariatric surgeries. WE is a known neurological complication after gastric bypass surgery but rarely reported after sleeve gastrectomy. We present a unique case of WE in pregnant women four months after sleeve gastrectomy.
