The Effects Of Continuous Insulin Pump Therapy On Glycemic Control In Pregnant Type 1 Diabetics, Kimberly Kelsey Apr 2017

The Effects Of Continuous Insulin Pump Therapy On Glycemic Control In Pregnant Type 1 Diabetics, Kimberly Kelsey

Scholarly and Creative Works Conference (2015 - 2021)

Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus accounts for approximately 5% of the diabetic population (CDC, 2015). Numerous complications must be avoided when a diabetic is insulin dependent. Women who are diabetic who are planning to conceive a family have special considerations. Little research has been focused into how to best manage Type 1 diabetics during pregnancy. Since Type 1 diabetes is predominantly diagnosed between birth and 30 years of age, many Type 1 diabetics have potential to become pregnant without knowing how to best manage their diabetes. Poor glycemic control in diabetics has been related to miscarriages, stillbirths, malformations, and macrosomia (Lapolla, …

Use Of Continuous Glucose Monitors In Type-1 Diabetes: An Analysis Of Wave Form Versus Glycemic Values In The Improvement Of Glucose Control And Fear Of Hypoglycemia, Tomas Charles Walker

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

Type-1 diabetes is a disease of subtle complexities. Patients struggle to understand glucose patterns and their responses to insulin or food intake while maintaining hectic lifestyles. Minor misjudgments in treatments can result in disastrous consequences with significant hypo- or hyperglycemic excursions.

Despite improvements in technologies available for diabetes management, including home monitoring of blood glucose, more predictable insulin therapies, and improved insulin delivery via insulin pump, the average HbA1c has remained relatively unchanged. Poor diabetes control is recognized as contributing to long-term diabetes comorbidities including neuropathy, nephropathy, retinopathy, and micro- and macrovascular disease.

Real-time continuous glucose monitors, such as the …

The Effect Of Self-Help Support Groups On Self Esteem And Blood Glucose In Young Insulin-Dependent Diabetics, Linda L. Woertz

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

Successful adaptation to diabetes is probably a function of many factors: the stress involved, the rewards, the motivation of the individual, and the self concept. The more optimal the self concept the more optimal the behavior may be. By helping the patient shape a positive self concept, a base can be built for blood glucose control (Bruhn, 1977, pp. 93-97). One method of improving self concept or self esteem may be through the development of self-help support groups for diabetics.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of self-help support group intervention on the levels of self …
