Optimizing Patient-Facing Ai Chatbot Questions To Improve Readability And Actionability In Anesthesia Education, Sarah Kadado, Bianca Elias, Roy Soto

In anesthesia, high patient anxiety and limited counseling time increase the need for clear, usable information. Artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots (e.g., ChatGPT) are increasingly used for patient anesthesia education. Many AI-generated responses exceed the recommended 6th-8th grade reading level for patient education information. Responses also often lack actionable guidance for patients. This study quantifies how optimizing patient-facing prompts improves readability, understandability, and actionability.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common, life-threatening complication in patients with sepsis and septic shock.→ Approximately one-half of patients with sepsis experience an AKI.4 → One-third of all acute kidney injuries are related to sepsis.4 → Sepsis-associated AKI raises in-hospital mortality eightfold and the risk of chronic kidney disease development threefold.1,2,3. Early identification of AKI could save time and resources, lower costs, improve patient outcomes. 50-84% of adults experiencing back pain at some point.

Previously, patients with chronic lumbar radiculopathy received a maximum of 6 injections a year (q8w).

On Dec 2021, Medicare Coverage of ESIs was updated to limit ESIs to a max of 4 a year (q12w).

Background

- Prinzmetal angina is a transient, reversible form of acute coronary syndrome

• Characterized by coronary artery spasms that can lead to myocardial ischemia
• Hypothesized that this phenomenon is secondary to coronary hyperreactivity from endothelial or smooth muscle dysfunction¹

- Patients with Prinzmetal angina are at high risk during surgery

• Up to 50% of patients may experience myocardial infarction, fatal arrhythmia, or unstable angina during non-cardiac surgery²
• Limited data looking at postoperative outcomes in patients with Prinzmetal angina

Intraoperative Status Asthmaticus In A Morbidly Obese Preteen Undergoing Concomitant Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy And Orthotopic Liver Transplant, Abigail Pint, Neal Campbell, Preethi Tumati

10-year-old morbidly obese male with cirrhotic ESLD secondary to vertically transmitted Hepatitis C presented for liver transplantation and concomitant vertical sleeve gastrectomy. Other history included moderate persistent asthma, OSA, and presumed HPS with baseline SpO2 of 94%. Induction was smooth; intubation with an armored ETT was easy. During invasive monitor placement, bronchospasm worsened SpO2. Continuous albuterol nebulization provided reasonable reversal, and all stakeholders agreed to proceed. Postoperative course was complicated by status asthmaticus and dramatic extubation on POD3 when patient bit and kinked armored ETT. To date, patient has good graft function and a 16% reduction from his peak BMI.

Postmastectomy radiation therapy (PMRT) utilized as part of a breast cancer treatment regimen reduces the risk of disease recurrence in appropriately selected patients.1,2,3,4,5 However, PMRT increases risk of radiationrelated toxicities that can interfere with breast reconstruction post-mastectomy.6 Following mastectomy, implant-based reconstruction can increase patient satisfaction and quality of life7,8; complications induced by PMRT such as infection and tissue contracture, though, increase risk for implant loss and may ultimately require further surgeries for the patient.

PMRT is delivered based on treatment plans that are optimized to provide appropriate radiation dosages to tissues along the chest wall while simultaneously limiting exposure of …

We present a case of a 2 staged liver transplant on a 12-month-old 8kg male with newly diagnosed mitochondrial depletion syndrome causing acute liver failure, refractory lactic acidosis, and cardiopulmonary collapse requiring ECMO. The patient’s past medical history at the time of presentation included history of prematurity at 32 weeks, developmental delay, and a brother with an undiagnosed pancreatic disorder. The patient was brought in by parents to the emergency department with a cough, minimal PO intake for 5 days, and increased fatigue who was found to be URI positive.
