Background: The main goal of the presented study was to assess the effect of blood flow restriction (BFR) on the maximum number of repetitions in the bench press exercise (BP) with different movement tempos. Material and methods: Four female athletes volunteered for the study. The experiment was performed following a randomized crossover design, with four different testing protocols: 2/0/X/0 fast tempo with BFR (FASTBFR); 2/0/X/0 fast tempo without BFR (FASTNO-BFR); 6/0/X/0 slow tempo with BFR (SLOWBFR) or 6/0/X/0 slow tempo without BFR (SLOWNO-BFR). During the experimental session, participants performed 5 sets of the BP at 80%1RM. The following variables …

Background: Hydration is one of the most significant issues for combat sports as athletes often use water restriction for quick weight loss before competition. There is significant evidence to indicate that the hypohydration status impairs anaerobic performance. The aim of this study was to investigate if hypohydration, to reach a weight category, affects anaerobic performance. Material and methods: Six well trained combat sport athletes, classified in the middleweight division, took part in the experiment. The hydration status and anaerobic performance parameters were evaluated at four points in time (t1 – four weeks before fight, t2 – two weeks before fight, …

Background: Older people are vulnerable groups whose physical activity (PA) guarantees their health. Considering the low level of PA and the role of various factors, this study was designed to investigate the level of PA and its determinants using the socio-ecological approach. Material and methods: In 2016, a random sample of 340 older people in urban areas of the Maku county, West Azerbaijan province, Iran, were recruited to complete PASE (Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly) and a socioecological approach–based questionnaire. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was conducted by Stata. Results: The mean PA in our study was very low (94.02 …

Background: The aim of the work is to determine the effectiveness of deep tissue massage therapy on mobility and pain of the thoracic spine. Material and methods: The study involved 18 women and men aged 46–63 years doing office work. Functional diagnostics was performed prior to the therapy (study I), after the procedure (study II) and after 30 days (study III). The Otta test for flexion and extension of the spine, pectoralis major muscles length test, chest circumference measurement, and NRS were used. In the statistical analysis mean and standard deviations were determined and the following tests were used: Mann-Whitney …
