In some countries it is considered to be an independent specialty, while in other countries it is integrated with neurology.

Motor neuron disease (MND) is a progressive degenerative disorder of the motor neurons, resulting in progressive limb, bulbar and respiratory muscle weakness. No definitive disease modifying treatment is available at this time. The mainstay of management remains multidisciplinary care, which has shown to improve quality of life, prevents complications and may also increase life span. In this review, different medical specialties necessary to offer complete multidisciplinary care are discussed. Symptomatic management of individual symptoms commonly experienced by patients with MND is elaborated on.

Carotid body tumors (CBTS) also known as chemodectomas are a type of paragangliomas which originate from the carotid body. Carotid body tumors present as a palpable mass in anterolateral aspect of the neck causing splaying of the external carotid artery (ECA) and internal carotid artery (ICA). Bilateral carotid body tumors are uncommon with a reported incidence of 5 - 10%. CBTs are commonly seen in 4th to 5th decades with female predilection. Stroke like migraine attacks after radiotherapy (SMART) syndrome is a phenomenon of reversible neurologic dysfunction which occurs rarely years after radiotherapy for brain tumors. We present a 35years old patient who had new onset neurological dysfunction with fits twice in between a symptom free interval of one year. He had radiotherapy for grade 1 astrocytoma about 27 years ago. Tumor recurrence or growth was ruled out both times by neuroimaging. Alternate diagnosis like meningoencephalitis were also ruled out by appropriate workup. Patient was managed on antiepileptics and antiplatelets.
