BACKGROUND: Perinatal stroke occurs in approximately 1 in 1100 live births. Large electronic health record (EHR) data can provide information on exposures associated with perinatal stroke in a larger number of patients than is achievable through traditional clinical studies. The objective of this study is to assess prevalence and odds ratios of known and theorized comorbidities with perinatal ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke.

METHODS: The data for patients aged 0-28 days with a diagnosis of either ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke were extracted from the Cerner Health Facts Electronic Medical Record (EMR) database. Incidence of birth demographics and perinatal complications were recorded. …

Development of a RN Clinical Coach program to improve retention of ICU residents and fellows

Background:
The COVID-19 pandemic caused contributed to significant increases in ICU nurse turnover. To restore the ICU nursing workforce and rebuild a healthy work environment, evidence-based strategies are needed to provide social support and ongoing clinical skills development for large cohorts of ICU residents and fellows.

Purpose:
The purpose of the Clinical Coach program was to increase retention of ICU residents and fellows and foster a healthy work environment at a ministry in Southern California.

Background: Oncology navigation programs have evolved to include services for addressing cancer care barriers, focusing on care coordination, patient experience, and care value, and may include nurses, social workers, and non-licensed trained workers as care navigators. The 2023 Enhancing Oncology Payment Model (EOPM) requires navigation services and emphasizes improving care value and outcomes. Effective healthcare navigation and collaboration can improve value by reducing care duplication, missed appointments, and emergency admissions; identifying and addressing health-related social needs; addressing health inequities; and improving time-to-treatment initiation and patient retention. Thailand is one of many countries experiencing changes in the demographics of its population. People are living longer and having fewer children resulting in an increasing percentage of older adults in the general population. This presents a challenge in providing care for older adults, especially in countries where there is a culture of family caregiving. This study aims to investigate the experience of family caregivers, exploring the problems of caring for older people with physical disabilities and the needs of family caregivers. Hypothesis/Purpose: In this report we present a case of a 20-year-old female with congenital intellectual disability, stunted growth, and hypothyroidism. Competitive genetic hybridization (CHG) revealed a loss of 17p13.3, and the deletion was not present in either parent. This deletion has not previously been characterized, but mutations on the p-arm of chromosome 17 are responsible for Miller-Dieker Syndrome and Isolated Lissencephaly Sequence, both of which share symptoms in common with the patient.

Methods: Peripheral mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were used for karyotyping and competitive genetic hybridization (CHG). Bioinformatic analysis was carried out using the Genome Data Viewer (ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genome/gdv).

It is well documented that barriers exist for underrepresented minorities to enter the field of medicine and even more competitive residencies. As defined by the NRMP, competitive specialties include but are not limited to Interventional Radiology, Orthopedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Radiation Oncology, Vascular Surgery, Neurosurgery, Dermatology, and Otornylogy (NRMP-AMA). A large number of osteopathic medical school graduates have a history of going into primary care specialties because many osteopathic medical schools have a primary care focus (Primary Care- Osteopathic Medicine).
