• Problem Statement: Current Healthy People 2030 data suggests that only up to 25% of infants are exclusively breastfed at six months of life, but target rates are upwards of 40%. Though this trend is multifactorial, an actionable solution is to increase lactation education for residents and medical students to better equip them to counsel patients.
• Project AIM: We aim to increase provider comfort in lactation counseling by implementing lactation education, resources, hands-on training, and postpartum follow-up strategies for Thomas Jefferson University pre-clerkship/ rotating medical students and OB/GYN residents.

Due to growing health disparities in underserved communities, a comprehensive approach is needed to train physicians to work effectively with patients who have cultures and belief systems different from their own. To address these complex healthcare inequities, Rowan-Virtua SOM implemented a new curriculum, The Tensegrity Curriculum, designed to expand beyond just teaching skills of cultural competence to include trainees' exploration of cultural humility. The hypothesis is that this component of the curriculum will mitigate health inequity by training physicians to recognize and interrupt the bias within themselves and within systems. Introduction: This study aimed to assess the healthcare experiences of transmasculine individuals in primary and gynecological care settings. An online, anonymous survey was conducted to gather insights into positive and adverse encounters, factors influencing care-seeking behaviors, and strategies for improving care delivery in this population.

Methods: A survey was administered between June 1st and July 23rd, 2023, recruiting participants from three LGBTQ+ affirming healthcare offices in South Jersey and via Reddit. Data analysis involved SPSS to gain information from 499 valid responses.

Results: The majority of participants (55%) were aged 18-24, with 51% identifying as transgender men. Over two-thirds (68.5%) …

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC), breast cancer (BrCa), and cervical cancer are three of the most preventable cancers. Despite the known significance for early detection and treatment, barriers to screening remain. We developed a medical student-led project to improve adherence to national cancer screening guidelines in patients across Rowan-Virtua Family Medicine (FM) practices. This study assesses the initiative’s efficacy in improving adherence to CRC, BrCa, and cervical cancer screenings.

Methods: Rowan-Virtua FM patients between the ages of 21-75 (n=735) were identified as due or up-to-date on cancer screenings based on chart review. Student volunteers were trained to contact patients to discuss …

Objective: Three-dimensional (3D)-printed endovascular models can be an accessible alternative to expensive, state-of-the-art endovascular simulators but currently lack the rigorous validation needed to be dependable educational tools. This study describes the manufacture of a 3D-printed endovascular model of an aorta and determines the construct validity and preliminary content and face validity of the model. Methods: A 3D-printed aorta was created using segmented data from a patient computerized tomography scan and a FormLabs 3B 3D printer with FormLabs Clear resin. Evaluating The Association Of Influenza Vaccination On Long-Term Covid-19 Symptoms In U.S. Adults, Ratnakar Pingili

Capstone Experience: Master of Public Health

Objective. To evaluate the association of influenza vaccination in the past 12 months with Long COVID effects and clinical and sociodemographic factors.

Methods. Cross-sectional study with data from the 2022 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), covering 415,132 non-institutionalized U.S. adults with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis and influenza vaccination reported within the last 12 months. Logistic regression was conducted between influenza vaccination (exposure) and Long COVID (outcome), controlling for demographic variables, pre-existing health conditions, and socioeconomic status.

Results. Of 120,603 participants, 21.89% reported Long COVID symptoms and 42.04% had received an influenza vaccine. Findings indicate a statistically significant 13% reduction …

BACKGROUND: Clinical decision support (CDS) tools that incorporate machine learning-derived content have the potential to transform clinical care by augmenting clinicians' expertise. To realize this potential, such tools must be designed to fit the dynamic work systems of the clinicians who use them. Blind Early Services Tennessee (BEST) is an early intervention agency that serves children ages 0-5 with visual impairments across Tennessee. BEST serves over 200 children and families across the state offering early intervention (BEST Start), parent empowerment (BEST Advocate), and family support (BEST Together) programming. The purpose of this project was to assist in the implementation of an early identification initiative (BEST Screening) using the Neonatal Assessment Visual European Grid (NAVEG). Purpose

Team-based care has been linked to key outcomes associated with the Quadruple Aim and a key driver of high-value patient-centered care. Use of the electronic health record (EHR) and machine learning have significant potential to overcome previous barriers to studying the impact of teams, including delays in accessing data to improve teamwork and optimize patient outcomes.

Methods

This study utilized a large EHR dataset (n = 316,542) from an urban health system to explore the relationship between team composition and patient activation, a key driver of patient engagement. Teams were operationalized using consensus definitions of teamwork from the literature. …

Skeletal dysplasia encompasses a spectrum of over 400 rare inheritable skeletal abnormalities typically manifested early in childhood. Hypertrophic Osteoarthropathy is a clinical syndrome marked by abnormal skin and osseous tissue proliferation at the distal extremities. It is characterized by unique clinical features such as digital clubbing, periostosis of tubular bones, and synovial effusions.

Patients with anemia and other conditions resulting in loss of blood often come with orders to return wasted blood to them. While using typical blood draw practices, patients are placed at an increased risk of infection when their blood is exposed to the outside world. My question is, will using a closed system decrease the instances of infection in patients who receive their waste blood after draws? Prioritizing patient safety is imperative for enhancing quality healthcare, especially in lower- and middle-income countries. Recognizing this urgency, India's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare introduced the 'SaQushal' toolkit, empowering health facilities to self-assess and improve their safety practices. This study presents an internal audit at a Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC) in Coimbatore, India, utilizing the 'SaQushal' framework. The facility achieved an overall score of 63%, exceeding the 50% minimum threshold for each domain, indicating commendable efforts towards establishing good quality standards.
