The need for trained obstetricians and gynecologists continues to increase. The ongoing advances in women’s health care requires well trained physicians that can only be achieved by a well-structured residency program that provides a reliable training infrastructure while maintaining a patient centered care model according AGCME standards. This residency program started July 2018 with 4 PGY1 and one PGY2 residents.

Objective

To prospectively look at the rate of growth needed to begin an OBGYN residency program in a community-based hospital.

Background

In the United States, 20,000 women of childbearing age have a spinal cord injury (SCI). While SCI induces transient amenorrhea immediately after injury, women generally have normal reproductive function after SCI, and their fertility is unimpaired. Medications that commonly manage complications of SCI should be avoided or discontinued during pregnancy. Complications inherent to SCI, including urologic issues, are often exacerbated during pregnancy.

Introduction
Many Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) residency programs utilize “home call” systems for nighttime coverage of inpatient services. In this system, trainees are expected to work at full capacity the following day after taking nocturnal call. While “on call,” trainees receive both urgent and non-urgent pages throughout the night, which disrupt sleep. To mitigate fatigue, improve hand-offs and improve timing of patient care, this study targeted reducing non-urgent overnight pages from nurses to home call PM&R residents between 11pm to 6am.

Simulation Of Status Epilepticus Is Effective Teaching For Junior Neurology Residents, Pankhuri Jha, Navya George, Jeffrey Ratliff

Phase 1

Purpose: Status Epilepticus (SE) represents a potentially fatal neurologic emergency. At Jefferson, acute management of SE falls to the inpatient neurologist, requiring early competency.

Methods: During a 2 week educational “bootcamp”, 9 PGY2 residents participated in a 2 hour simulation of acute SE with two clinical scenarios. Scenarios included a patient with SE requiring adequate benzodiazepine dosing and another with seizures requiring IV anticonvulsant therapy. Prior to and following the simulation, residents took a survey to gauge their knowledge and confidence in managing SE.

Results and Conclusions: There was an increase in the number of residents expressing confidence in their …

Purpose: The traditional approach to 12-lead electrocardiogram interpretation has limitations in the ED setting because it is tedious and does not emphasize pattern recognition for potentially fatal conditions that ED physicians must recognize. Additionally, while lecture-based learning is necessary, learning modules can help learners gain a better understanding of the material. The purpose of this study was to create and implement a self-paced learning module that teaches a novel way of ECG interpretation through the following steps: is it sinus? is it wide? is there ischemia? and does this herald sudden death?

Background: Narcolepsy is a sleep disorder, whose main symptoms include daytime sleepiness, cataplexy, sleep paralysis, disturbed sleep, and hypnagogic hallucinations. The disorder is poorly identified in medical settings. We hypothesized that lack of knowledge of narcolepsy and its hallmark symptoms are a cause for the low levels of identification of this disorder. Purpose: To describe obstetric training in Southeast family medicine residencies in 2019. To determine factors that contribute to continuity deliveries, vaginal deliveries and residents who continue OB after graduation.

Methods: A survey of family medicine program directors was conducted in 2019. We took the answers from the 32 South Atlantic program directors that completed the survey questions of interest. We used chi-square tests and Kruskal-Wallis rank test to compare variables. STATA 14 was used for analysis.

Anesthesiology residents are at significant risk of developing serious issues during training including burnout, depression, and substance abuse. Recent accreditation requirements mandate that these well-being issues be addressed by residency training programs. Program directors, as the leaders of residency programs, are charged with protecting the wellness of residents and leading wellness initiatives. The program director role can be well-described in a servant leadership construct because they are charged with caring for the individual needs of their residents.

Objective: To explore the reasons for decline in empathy among physicians and to identify strategiesfor fostering empathetic clinical practice.
Methods: The qualitative study was conducted at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, from February to June 2017, and comprised focus group discussions involving separate sessions with medical students, residents and clinical teachers. Content analysis was used to analyse the verbatim transcripts for identification of codes which led to derivation of themes from the data. Current evidence-based guidelines recommend initiation of enteral nutrition within 24-48 hours of intensive care unit (ICU) admission. The quality improvement (QI) project aim was to examine whether enteral nutrition was initiated within 24- 48 hours of mechanical ventilation after implementation of QI intervention in order to determine practice change.
