Attitudes Toward Osteopathic Medicine Scale: Development And Psychometrics, Mohammadreza Hojat Professor, Jennifer Desantis, Robert A Cain, Mark R Speicher, Lynn Bragan, Leonard H Calabrese

Objective: To develop a valid and reliable instrument for measuring attitudes toward osteopathic medicine.

Methods: Participants included 5,669 first-year students from 33 U.S. colleges of osteopathic medicine, who completed an online survey at the beginning of the 2019-2020 academic year. Using data from the nationwide Project in Osteopathic Medical Education and Empathy, we developed a 13-item instrument: Attitudes Toward Osteopathic Medicine Scale (ATOMS) and demonstrated the validity and reliability of its scores. The social desirability response bias was controlled in statistical analyses.

Advances in Clinical Medical Research and Healthcare Delivery

Point-of-care ultrasound is increasingly recognized as a valuable tool for physicians practicing in a variety of specialties. Currently there is no standard curricula or assessment model for training primary care specialty residents in the use of ultrasound. This article presents a multispecialty experience in developing a list of 11 core Pediatric, 13 core Family Medicine and 22 core Internal Medicine ultrasound scans based on best available evidence for their clinical use.

Objective: The SARS-CoV-2 (COVID19) pandemic has led to unprecedented changes in medical education globally. Published reports on these changes have given some insight as to both positive and negative effects for specific medical schools though none have looked at osteopathic education. Our study attempts to examine the effect of COVID19 more formally on osteopathic medical students’ perception of their medical education in the third and fourth years of medical training.

For children living with a diagnosis of diabetes, com-munity support and education about proper disease management are critical for the mental and physical health of the child and their family. The experiences offered at summer camps hosted by the American Diabetes Association address both of these needs for the pediatric diabetes community. These camps provide children with the opportunity to participate in a traditional camp experience—swimming, rock climbing, tubing, and more—while giving parents peace of mind in the knowledge that their child’s diabetes will be closely monitored by a team of health care professionals. Purpose: We hypothesized that health care providers would behave in a more patient-centered manner after the implementation of communication skills training, without causing the consultation to last longer.

Methods: This study was part of the large-scale implementation of a communication skills training program called "Clear-Cut Communication With Patients" at Lillebaelt Hospital in Denmark. Audio recordings from real-life consultations were collected in a pre-post design, with health care providers' participation in communication skills training as the intervention. The training was based on the Calgary-Cambridge Guide, and audio recordings were rated using the Observation Scheme-12.

Prompt and clear code team leader identification is vital in effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and pediatric trainees often have limited experience in these scenarios. This project sought to develop a tangible object that provided clear leader identification and assisted in code team management and simulated team training. A Code Team Leader Card (CTLC) was designed to provide clear leader identification while simultaneously providing a cognitive aid via integration of pediatric advanced life support (PALS) algorithms.
