Background: Robotic-assisted mitral valve surgery (RMVS) is becoming an increasingly performed procedure in cardiac surgery, however, its true safety and efficacy compared to the gold standard conventional sternotomy approach [conventional sternotomy mitral valve surgery (CSMVS)] remains debated. Intro: Historically, early postoperative (<6weeks) cardiac catheterization (EPOCC) was considered high risk and often delayed. Recently, the safety of early postoperative cardiac catheterization has been demonstrated. The timing of catheterization in the struggling postoperative patient remains variable and optimal timing remains uncertain. There is limited data on the impact of EPOCC on outcomes such as length of stay, duration of mechanical ventilatory or extracorporeal support, and surgical or catheter- based interventions. The aim of this study was to describe our experience with EPOCC and its impact on management, length of stay, and duration of mechanical ventilatory support. Methods: This is a descriptive retrospective cohort study of patients who underwent cardiac surgery between 01/01/2010 and 12/31/2019 and cardiac catheterization within 30 days after surgery. Patients with catheterization for LA decompression on ECMO, endomyocardial biopsy, or BAS post hybrid procedure were excluded. We collected information surrounding timing, indication, and complications of catheterization, duration of mechanical ventilation/ECMO, and ICU/hospital LOS and compared these differences in patients who underwent EPOCC < 72hours (earlier) versus >72hours (later). Data was analyzed using IBM SPSS, version 28. Chi-square and Student’s t-test, or appropriate nonparametric tests were used to compare categorical and continuous variables, respectively. Results: There were 2542 surgeries performed during the study period with 167 patients undergoing cardiac catheterization within the defined 30 days. Twenty-six patients met exclusion criteria, leaving 141 patients for analyses. Median time from surgery to EPOCC was 10 days (1-30), with 26 patients(18.4%) having an earlier EPOCC. Background: Acute COVID‐19–related myocardial, pulmonary, and vascular pathology and how these relate to each other remain unclear. To our knowledge, no studies have used complementary imaging techniques, including molecular imaging, to elucidate this. We used multimodality imaging and biochemical sampling in vivo to identify the pathobiology of acute COVID‐19. BACKGROUND: There are limited data on the outcomes of acute myocardial infarction-cardiogenic shock (AMI-CS) in patients with concomitant cancer.

METHODS: A retrospective cohort of adult AMI-CS admissions was identified from the National Inpatient Sample (2000-2017) and stratified by active cancer, historical cancer, and no cancer. Outcomes of interest included in-hospital mortality, use of coronary angiography, use of percutaneous coronary intervention, do-not-resuscitate status, palliative care use, hospitalization costs, and hospital length of stay.

Pregnancy in women with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is not well described. In this retrospective study, we analyzed data on pregnant women with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy who were under follow-up care in the cardiology department of a tertiary care hospital. We reviewed data on all women registered in the hypertrophic cardiomyopathy cohort and those who attended the cardio-obstetric clinic and delivered between January 2010 and June 2019. From these 2 groups, we identified 7 pregnant women with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy who delivered during this period. Patients with Anderson-Fabry disease (AFD) have an elevated incidence of resting arrhythmias and ischemic heart disease, but their exercise arrhythmia burden and ischemic changes are not well understood. In addition, little research has been done on heart rate recovery in these patients.

We retrospectively reviewed charts of patients with AFD who underwent maximal effort cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) (n=44; 38.2 ± 13.8 yr; 23 men) from 2012 through 2018. Electrocardiographic, Holter monitoring, echocardiographic, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, and patient demographic data were collected.

BACKGROUND: Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) is routinely performed in children with chronic kidney disease to identify masked hypertension, a risk factor for accelerated chronic kidney disease progression. However, ABPM is burdensome, and developing an accurate prediction of masked hypertension may allow using ABPM selectively rather than routinely.

METHODS: To create a prediction model for masked hypertension using clinic blood pressure (BP) and other clinical characteristics, we analyzed 809 ABPM studies with nonhypertensive clinic BP among the participants of the Chronic Kidney Disease in Children study.

Takayasu's arteritis (TA) is an idiopathic vasculitis affecting the aorta and its major branches. In TA, coronary artery involvement is rare and it mainly consists of stenosis or occlusion of the coronary ostia. In TA, as the arterial tree is diseased, often, arterial grafts are unsuitable for grafting so the saphenous vein grafts (SVG) are commonly used. We present a case of a young female with TA with an ostial left main stenosis who has undergone a right coronary-to-left anterior descending artery SVG and put on immunosuppression and steroids. She was asymptomatic with a patent graft during 7 years follow-up.

A 63-year-old man with multiple previous orthopedic procedures in both lower extremities had presented to us for a third opinion regarding the point-specific pain in his right lateral calf. The initial diagnosis had been venous reflux at two other institutions. However, repeat imaging studies demonstrated an aneurysmal gastrocnemius vein without any other abnormalities, such as venous reflux or thrombosis. The patient had received compression stocking therapy for 6 months but had continued to experience increasing pain at night, especially when lying in bed. BACKGROUND: Differences in prevalence of risk factors such as hypertension may explain heterogeneity in cardiovascular risk across Asian American populations.

METHODS: We used National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) data from 2006 to 2018 among White, Chinese, Asian Indian, Filipino, and 'other Asians' (Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese). Unadjusted and adjusted odds ratios (aOR) with 95% confidence intervals were reported using logistic regression models for the association between race and self-reported premature hypertension (ageold). Models were adjusted for sex, education, body mass index, smoking status, diabetes, and coronary heart disease.

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) has become the predominant technique for aortic valve replacement in the United States. Initially approved for high surgical risk patients, TAVR is now approved for most patients requiring valve therapy, including younger, lower-risk patients. The procedure is ideally performed in a hybrid operating room equipped with fluoroscopic equipment and transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) imaging that can be viewed simultaneously by the operating team. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease has been associated with exposures in the workplace. We aimed to assess the association of respiratory symptoms and lung function with occupation in the Burden of Obstructive Lung Disease study. We analysed cross-sectional data from 28,823 adults (≥40 years) in 34 countries. Eleven occupations were considered and grouped by likelihood of exposure to organic dusts, inorganic dusts and fumes. The association of chronic cough, chronic phlegm, wheeze, dyspnoea, FEV1/FVC and FVC with occupation was assessed, per study site, using multivariable regression. Double-inlet left ventricle (DILV) is most frequent among univentricular atrioventricular connections. In DILV, there is a single functioning ventricle, most commonly with left ventricular structure. This chamber receives both atrioventricular valves and is connected to an outlet chamber with morphologic features of the right ventricle. The great vessels are often transposed, and pulmonary stenosis is seen in two-thirds of patients. The SARS-CoV-2 virus has caused a pandemic, infecting nearly 80 million people worldwide, with mortality exceeding six million. The average survival span is just 14 days from the time the symptoms become aggressive. The Joint Commission (TJC) published new performance standards on Post Cardiac Arrest (PCA) care that went into effect on Jan 1, 2022. The new standards encourage hospitals to review and synthesize current scientific literature on Post Cardiac Arrest Syndrome (PCAS) and analyze current hospital practice. Following a review of the evidence, hospitals are guided to create a multidisciplinary protocol and education that facilitates training of personnel, implementation of the evidence into clinical practice, data collection, and case review processes. Biomarkers can greatly improve the management and outcomes of these conditions, but no official guidance is available on their use in Saudi Arabia. Background: Heart disease continues to be the leading cause of death among adults in the United States and other industrialized countries.
