• Cancer survival prediction is challenging due to the complexity of genomic data and limited samples especially for rarer cancer types. • To address this challenge, we developed an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model for survival analysis using RNA-sequencing gene expression data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). • Moreover, a key concept we investigate was how transfer learning enhanced our model’s performance especially for rarer cancer types difficult to perform accurate survival analysis due to their limited samples.

Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a record of the electric activity of the heart over time. ECG analysis plays a pivotal role in diagnosing critical heart conditions. Significant developments have been made in the realm of deep learning and applied artificial intelligence. These deep learning models have been utilized heavily because of their ability to analyze deep morphological features of each signal. The model architecture used in this study is a convolutional neural network (CNN) combined with a multi-layered perceptron (MLP). The MLP acts as an input filter that classifies normal heartbeat signals from abnormal. The CNN is the second filter in …

Throughout the decades, advancements in
technology have been surpassing limits that
were thought impossible. Every day these
breakthroughs are improving modern
surgery whether it be enhancing precision
on surgical sites, increasing accuracy of
procedure, or reducing recovery rates for
patients. Among the newly increasing
innovations, the implementation of robotics
systems and artificial intelligence (AI) into
the surgical field has emerged into
becoming a transformative force, especially
within a context as delicate as tumor removal.
This study explores the numerous benefits
of incorporating robotics and artificial
intelligence (AI) in tumor removal surgeries.
We investigate how these innovations
improve surgical accuracy, reduce …

Canine hip dysplasia (CHD) provides a tractable and potentially predictive model for human hip dysplasia and OA. CHD can be identified by assessing the joint laxity, femoral head coverage and wear on the hip joint. The goal is to develop an understanding of the intraarticular mechanics of the hip joint and how hip-joint dysfunction impacts these mechanics. To achieve our goal, we needed to develop a system to track the hip joint.

Bone constantly cycles through a dynamic process of breakdown and remodeling. Osteoblasts are the specialized mesenchymal stem cells that have a major role in bone formation and the remodeling process whereas their counterpart osteoclasts, handle bone resorption. Embryonic stem cells can be partially differentiated into Progenitor cells, and we worked with #18, a candidate for being an osteoprogenitor that has the potential to respond to morphogenic activators. In the case of bone remodeling, TGF-β 2, BMP-2 and an abundance of CA++ have been shown to be potential activators of differentiation into osteoblasts. Eight different trials were conducted with the cells …

The World Health Organization has described the rise of antibiotic use as a “global heath security emergency” (who.int). With the growing concern about antibiotic resistant bacteria, there has been an increased interest in bacteriophages. Bacteriophages are high-specific viruses that only infect bacteria. The use of bacteriophages medicinally to treat bacteria is called phage therapy. Research in phage therapy gained momentum until the introduction of antibiotics. While the USA and other Western countries accepted antibiotics, the Soviet Union and their satellite nations still continued to research phages. Since the funding for research was supplied by the Soviet military, the results of …
