Pilot Survey Of Attitudes Toward Xenotransplantation Among Nursing Students In London, Uk., Daniel Rodger, Luz A. Padilla, Daniel J. Hurst, David K C Cooper, Gilberto Buzzi, Antonio Ríos
Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine Departmental Research
BACKGROUND: Solid organ xenotransplantation has been approved for clinical trials in the United States. Because of the role of nurses in patient decision-making, it is important to understand the attitudes of the future nursing workforce toward xenotransplantation. This pilot study aimed to investigate the attitudes of adult nursing students toward xenotransplantation.
METHODS: A cross-sectional survey design was used. The online pilot survey was completed by 33 undergraduate adult nursing students at one university in London, England. A minority of the hospitals that students may have had a clinical placement in had a transplant unit. The protocol for this study was …

Pharmacy Faculty Articles and Research
Introduction
Pharmacogenomics (PGx) is an emerging discipline with the potential to revolutionize personalized medicine, but its successful implementation requires interprofessional collaboration. To address this need, a virtual interprofessional education (IPE) session was designed for student pharmacists and medical students to engage in a case-based learning experience.
Objective
The primary objective was to develop and implement an IPE activity focused on a patient case requiring PGx-guided dual antiplatelet therapy and to assess students' perceptions of two Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) Version 3 Core Competencies. A secondary objective was to identify key lessons from the session.
Methods
Pharmacist and physician faculty collaboratively …
Creating Space For Social Justice Discussions – How We Made The Uncomfortable Comfortable, Emilie Keeton, Msod, Jacqueline Hill, Bridgette Jones
Creating Space For Social Justice Discussions – How We Made The Uncomfortable Comfortable, Emilie Keeton, Msod, Jacqueline Hill, Bridgette Jones
Presentations
Current models of graduate medical education and faculty development have been described as inadequate for teaching, learning, and dialoguing about race and racism in medicine. We created the “Not-So Journal Club” (NSJC) to provide opportunities to review articles and discuss current events and social justice issues. Respondents reported planning to discuss with colleagues, make change to professional behaviors, and requested actions they could take to spur change. NSJC model appears to be effective to engage faculty in meaningful conversations about race and racism in medicine.

Unsuitable Underlying Cause-Of-Death Statements: Implementation And Evaluation Of A Structured Process For Healthcare Providers Certifying Natural Causes Of Death In An Outpatient Setting, Naida Rutherford
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Background: Accuracy in death certification is crucial for effective public health initiatives. Inaccuracies in unsuitable Underlying Cause-of-Death (UCOD) statements can distort mortality statistics, influence health policy, and impact resource allocation. In South Carolina, changes in the death registration process and the introduction of an unsuitable cause-of-death list highlighted an urgent need for structured training among certifiers to enhance accuracy in death documentation.
Purpose: The purpose of this project was to implement a standardized training program for healthcare providers certifying natural causes of death and assessing the impact of reducing the unsuitable underlying cause-of-death inaccuracies in an outpatient hospice setting.

Increasing Colorectal Cancer Screening Rates For Patients Without Insurance, Andrea F. Day
Increasing Colorectal Cancer Screening Rates For Patients Without Insurance, Andrea F. Day
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Background: Colorectal cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States (U.S.), ranking as second most prevalent overall. Despite many initiatives, screening rates remain low, especially among clinic patients without insurance. The lack of an evidence-based screening protocol exacerbates these issues and increases the risk of advanced cancer and death. Initial data showed that 0% of patients were screened according to recommended guidelines.
Purpose: The project implemented a standard screening protocol to increase colorectal cancer screening rates in a rural Alabama free clinic for patients ages 45-64 lacking insurance.
Project Design: This quality improvement …

Organizational Policies, Practices and Procedures Intended/Target Audience Seasoned Faculty and Staff Mid-Career Faculty and Staff New Faculty and Staff Description Faculty have limited time for professional development. We piloted an approach to create and actively promote curated asynchronous professional development resources in five targeted topic areas and recorded resource use over two academic years (July 2023-July 2025). Since July 2023, we had 4,543 unique daily views; more than half (n=2,319) were views of academic promotion resources. Asynchronous resources engaged faculty in professional development topics, especially academic promotion. Additional information: Background: Faculty …
