One Center's Experience Of Pulmonary Embolism After Covid-19: Impact Of Vaccination Status, Cara Gose, Kaylee Dixon, Andrea M. Bodine Md
Advances in Clinical Medical Research and Healthcare Delivery
Background: The incidence of pulmonary embolism (PE) has increased since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and may be due to the observed hypercoagulable state. There is conflicting evidence that thromboembolism risk increases after vaccination and that vaccines decrease the probability of having a thromboembolic event. This study aimed to explore how vaccination status impacts occurrence of PE after a positive COVID-19 test. The hypothesis was that vaccinated, immunocompetent patients have a lower incidence of PE after COVID-19 compared to unvaccinated patients.
Methods: This was a retrospective chart review at a teaching hospital in New England from 1/01/2021 to 3/31/2023 …

Structural And Interpersonal Determinants Of Covid-19 Vaccine Uptake In Vulnerable Populations Of The United States, Alyea Wood
Capstone Showcase
Since its introduction in late 2020, the uptake of the COVID-19 vaccine has had the lowest rates in marginalized populations like minorities, elderly, and those of low socioeconomic status. Decreased rates of vaccination uptake in these groups has resulted in increased burden of disease and subsequently higher rates of hospitalization and death. Many inequities in poor COVID-19 health outcomes can be explained by examining common predictive factors that determine vaccination rates in these United States populations. This special article research aims to explore these various predictive factors with the goal to provide targeted strategies to boost COVID-19 vaccination rates, especially …

Deciphering The Microbial Fingerprint Of Covid-19: A Multi-Layered Exploration Of The Oral And Gut Microbiome Dysbiosis, Iman Mostafa Sultan
Theses and Dissertations
The impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection on the human microbiome remains a dynamic and intricate puzzle. This study delves deeper into this mystery by revisiting the oral and gut microbial compositions of 53 COVID-19 patients before and after viral clearance, alongside comparisons to 76 healthy individuals. Through a comparative lens, we have emploed two distinct differential abundance methods – DeSeq2 and ANCOM – while drawing upon the thorough SILVA database encompassing the full-length 16S rRNA gene. The analysis underscores the crucial role of a diverse methodological choir in microbiome research. In certain instances, the congruence between DeSeq2 and ANCOM may exhibit …

If Past Is Prologue, Then The Future Is Bleak: Contracts, Covid–19, And The Changed Circumstances Doctrines, Danielle K. Hart
Texas A&M Law Review
At the heart of most of the systemic problems currently confronting individuals and businesses as a result of the COVID–19 pandemic is quite literally a contract. Housing. Insurance. Food. Health care. Child care. Employment. Manufacturing. Construction. Supply chains. You name it. Contracts are implicated everywhere. So make no mistake: How contract law addresses these ostensibly private contracts will have profound social consequences. If the past really is prologue, then the future is indeed bleak. The empirical study conducted for this Article establishes what the conventional wisdom has claimed for the last 70 years. More specifically, the empirical study here shows …

This study assessed the partial as well as the collaborative impact of age and gender on academic staff preparedness to adopt Internet tools for research sharing in African universities during Covid-19. Although evidence abounds in the literature on gender and age as they affect relatively, scholars’ utilisation of digital tools for research communication, such studies did not examine scholars’ preparedness to adopt from a broad perspective of Africa. This study was conducted based on the argument that the preparedness of scholars may affect their future interest to utilize digital tools for research sharing. A quantitative method, based on the descriptive …
