Using Geospatial Analysis and Machine Learning to Compare Metropolitan Greenspace and Rates of Adolescents with Obesity

 Introduction: Insufficient outdoor activity, influenced by limited access to exercise-friendly greenspaces, may contribute to increasing childhood obesity rates. However, rigorous evaluation of greenspace quality on a citywide scale is lacking. This study aims to characterize greenspace vegetation types and correlate them with adolescent obesity outcomes, identifying optimal characteristics for promoting health. This data could aid city planners in optimizing greenspace allocation and improving vegetation choices.

BACKGROUND/ INTRODUCTION: Calcinosis cutis is a rare but serious complication of end-stage renal disease (ESRD), often related to disordered calcium–phosphate metabolism. It can lead to significant morbidity, recurrent infections, and challenging management decisions.

CASE PRESENTATION: We present a 23-year-old male with ESRD on hemodialysis, hypertension, anemia of chronic disease, and a left upper extremity arteriovenous fistula who developed progressive pain, swelling, and purulent drainage involving the left third and fourth digits. Imaging revealed extensive soft tissue calcifications consistent with calcinosis cutis. Calciphylaxis is a rare but serious condition characterized by the calcification and thrombosis of small blood vessels, predominantly affecting patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Diagnosis can be challenging due to overlapping features with other vascular conditions, such as warfarin-induced skin necrosis (WSN). We present a case of a patient with ESRD and typical risk factors—peritoneal dialysis, hyperparathyroidism, and warfarin use—who exhibited classic skin findings suggestive of calciphylaxis. However, two skin biopsies were inconclusive. Management involved addressing the patient's calciphylaxis risk factors, optimizing dialysis, and initiating sodium thiosulfate therapy. This leads to inconsistencies in patient education and treatment strategies. Introduction Lactic acid (LA) is a commonly used biomarker and is often indicative of severity of disease in critically ill patients. Lactic acidosis which is defined as LA > 4.0 can be divided into two categories: Type A which is the more common type is caused by systemic tissue hypoperfusion most likely due to shock and Type B which is caused by impairment of cellular metabolism and or decreased clearance of LA. Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional analysis of a local hospital system database was performed using Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) codes to identify T2DM patients who were at least 18 years of age who underwent hemiarthroplasty (HA) for FNFs and were on a GLP-1RA at the time of injury. BACKGROUND/INTRODUCTION: In this study, we discuss a case of an 86 year old Vietnamese female who presents with severe hypercalcemia, 15.0, who presented with progressively worsening physical debility which resulted in the patient being wheelchair bound after being found to be taking chronic calcium supplements. Hypercalcemia is a metabolic abnormality that is known to cause muscle weakness, changes in sensorium, dehydrations, nausea, anorexia, polyuria, constipation, fatigue, and depression. CASE PRESENTATION: Patient is an 85 year old female with significant medical history of osteoarthritis who presented to the emergency department for generalized fatigue for the past 2 weeks.
