Body Weight Prediction Model Using Mid Upper Arm Circumferences And Knee Height In Adult, Katherina Katherina, Trini Sudiarti

Indonesian Journal of Public Health Nutrition (IJPHN)

Bodyweight is one of the most common anthropometric components to determin e a prescription for diet and drugs. However, this way proved to be a challenge for individuals who are unconscious and or have disabilities. The present study aims to derive a simple equation to estimate the bodyweight of adults in Jakarta by using a cross-sectional study on data taken with simple random sample method. Measurements of body weight (BW), the mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC), and the knee height (KH) were done in 164 adults in South Jakarta in May 2017. The resulting equation, which is derived by multi linear …

Associations Of Dietary Diversity And Other Factors With Prevalence Of Stunting Among Children Aged 6-35 Months, Kelvin Halim, Ratu Ayu Dewi Sartika, Trini Sudiarti, Primasti Nuryandari Putri, Nurul Dina Rahmawati

Indonesian Journal of Public Health Nutrition (IJPHN)

Prevalence of stunting among under five children in Indonesia is still considered as a public health problem. Dietary diversity, one of the important assessments in infant and child feeding practice, is one of important determinants of stunting. This study is aimed to examine associations between dietary diversity with other factors with prevalence of stunting in Babakan Madang District, Bogor Regency in 2019. A cross-sectional design study was performed in this study during April-June in 2019. A total of 149 children’s height aged 6- 35 months was measured and defined based on WHO growth standards. The Differences Of Haemoglobin Changes Between Two Methods Of Ifa Supplementations Among Anemic Female Adolescent Students Of Miftahul Huda Al Azhar Langgensari Islamic Boarding School, West Java, Syabilila Indraswari, Endang L. Achadi

Indonesian Journal of Public Health Nutrition (IJPHN)

Female adolescent students in boarding schools are vulnerable in having anemia due to packed schedule and limited animal source food. The aim of this research was to compare the differences of haemoglobin level after weekly Iron Folate Acid (IFA) tablet supplementation and weekly plus daily IFA tablet supplementation during menstruation for 8 week of intervention among anemic students. This study used quasi experimental non equivalent control group design. A total of 40 anemic respondents was selected in this study, 20 of them received a weekly IFA tablet supplementation (treatment 1 group), and the 20 other respondents received weekly plus daily …

Factors Associated With Minimum Dietary Diversity Among Breastfed Children Aged 6-23 Months In Indonesia (Analysis Of Indonesia Dhs 2017), Aniza Rizky Aprilya Sirait, Endang L. Achadi

Indonesian Journal of Public Health Nutrition (IJPHN)

Poor complementary feeding practices can lead to malnutrition in infants and young children. Minimum dietary diversity (MDD) is one of the determinants of children’s nutritional status and has been found to predict stunting. This study examined factors associated with MDD achievement among breastfed children aged 6-23 months based on Indonesia’s Demographic and Health Survey 2017. This study used chi-square and multiple logistic regression to analyze the data. Among 2,976 children only around 53% children met MDD recommendation. Multivariate analysis found that the diversity of diet is better among older children than younger children. Children aged 18-23 months have possibility of …

Baseline Health Assessment Of A Rural Delta Community, Sydney Mitchell May 2020

Baseline Health Assessment Of A Rural Delta Community, Sydney Mitchell

Honors Theses

The Lower Mississippi Delta is characterized by poverty, chronic health issues, health disparities, and food insecurity. The rural Delta communities are primarily African American, experiencing disproportionately higher rates of poverty, job loss, and chronic health problems. Historically, chronic health issues have persisted in these areas over time, including obesity, hypertension, and diabetes, which have only seemed to increase in this region. The food environment in this rural region tends to assist in the creation of the largely obesogenic population which, in turn, contributes to the increased prevalence of diabetes and hypertension and a lower quality of life. Many residents in …

Short Relative Leg Length Is Associated With Overweight And Obesity In Mexican Immigrant Women, Mireya Vilar-Compte, James Macinko, Beth C. Weitzman, Carlos M. Avendaño-Villela

Department of Public Health Scholarship and Creative Works

Background: Prior research suggests that undernutrition and enteric infections predispose children to stunted growth. Undernutrition and infections have been associated with limited access to healthy diets, lack of sanitation, and access barriers to healthcare - all associated with human rights. Stunting has also been documented to be a major determinant of subsequent obesity and non-communicable diseases. Short leg length relative to stature during adulthood seems to be a good proxy indicator tracking such barriers, and has been reported to be associated with adverse health effects during adulthood. Our objective was to examine the association between relative leg length (as measured …

The Teen Vaping Crisis, Jayavignesh Ganesan '21, Cynthia Mu '21, Carolina Seoane '21

Student Leadership Exchange (SLX)

In today’s society, many teens have the idea that is is cool to vape. This has led to an exponential increase in the number of teenagers addicted to nicotine. This increase is directly caused by nicotine companies, specifically vape companies, presenting their products with appealing and misleading packaging. Indeed, nicotine packages are required to have a warning. However, the warning is usually not taken into consideration, as the warning is not eye-catching. Because of this, we propose that all products containing nicotine, including e-cigarettes, must follow plain packaging regulations. Under plain packaging regulations, companies would be required to have the …

A Program To Treat Hepatitis B In North Korea: A Model Of Antiviral Therapy In A Resource-Poor Setting, Marcia Ann Kilsby, Alice Unah Lee, Heidi Linton, David C. Hilmers Nov 2018

A Program To Treat Hepatitis B In North Korea: A Model Of Antiviral Therapy In A Resource-Poor Setting, Marcia Ann Kilsby, Alice Unah Lee, Heidi Linton, David C. Hilmers

Faculty Publications

Despite the well-proven, safe and effective therapies for hepatitis B infection, delivery of treatment remains a significant challenge in resource-poor settings. Geopolitical and economic restrictions present additional difficulties in providing care in North Korea. However, treatment of patients with chronic hepatitis B remains a top priority for both the North Korean Ministry of Public Health and international agencies working in North Korean hepatitis healthcare facilities. Working in partnership, a path was created to institute this much-needed program. A consortium of United States and Australian humanitarian non-governmental organizations along with generous individual and corporate donors working in concert with local and …

Exercise Participation During Weight Loss On A High Protein – Low Carbohydrate Diet Plan In Females Aged 15-25 Years, Margaret Mobley-Meulman

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Weight gain due to poor diet and lack of exercise is responsible for over 300,000 deaths each year (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2010). Obese adults have an increased risk for serious health conditions including high blood pressure and cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, respiratory problems, and certain cancers (National Cancer Institute, 2012). Participation in exercise can help control weight, strengthen muscles and bones, and reduce the incidence of cardiac events, stroke, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, colon and breast cancers, osteoporotic fractures, gallbladder disease, obesity, depression, anxiety, and delay mortality …
