Atherosclerosis, characterized by lipid accumulation and arterial inflammation, is a major contributor to global morbidity and mortality. Despite significant progress in understanding atherosclerosis in extracranial arteries, the study of intracranial atherosclerosis (ICAS) has been relatively neglected, despite its crucial role in stroke and vascular cognitive impairment. Challenges related to ICAS, including its location within the cranium and limited availability of suitable animal models, have hindered research progress in this area. Although nonhuman primates (NHPs) are commonly used for studying extracranial atherosclerosis, a comprehensive understanding of ICAS pathophysiology in these animals is lacking. Abstract: Wnt5a triggers inflammatory responses and damage via NFkB/p65 in retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells undergoing uncompensated oxidative stress (UOS) and in experimental ischemic stroke. We found that Wnt5a-Clathrin-mediated uptake leads to NFkB/p65 activation and that Wnt5a is secreted in an exosome-independent fashion. We uncovered that docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and its derivative, Neuroprotectin D1 (NPD1), upregulate c-Rel expression that, as a result, blunts Wnt5a abundance by competing with NFkB/p65 on the Wnt5a promoter A. Wnt5a increases in ischemic stroke penumbra and blood, while DHA reduces Wnt5a abundance with concomitant neuroprotection. Peptide inhibitor of Wnt5a binding, Box5, is also neuroprotective. There has been a higher prevalence of developing anxiety due to frequent episodes of stress among adults in recent years. Chronic anxiety can contribute to the prevalence of elevated blood pressure and hypertension. High anxiety and stress also contribute to overactivation of the sympathetic nervous system which can be quantified by increased muscle sympathetic nerve activity (MSNA). Sympathetic overactivation can lead to vasoconstriction and loss of arterial elasticity. Anxiety, MSNA, blood pressure, and arterial stiffness are all interconnected, thus studying these relationships is crucial to understand the underlying mechanisms for prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease (CVD). The current treatment of Attention Deficit Disorder and Attention Deficit with Hyperactivity consists mainly in the administration of Straterra (Atomoxetine) Concerta and Ritalin (Methylphenidate). The FDA warned that the products might increase systolic, diastolic blood pressure, and lead to ventricular arrhythmias. Arrhythmic events and sudden cardiac death were described in adults with preexistent heart disease. Syncope is a common complaint in the emergency departments, accounting for 1-2% of visits, and can approach admission rates of a staggering 85%. The causes and conditions can be numerous, ranging from benign to life threatening. A good background history can go a long way in determining the etiology of the patient’s syncope. Spinal cord infarction (SCI) is rare and most often occurs in individuals with predisposing cardiovascular risk factors and traumatic injuries

As there are no distinct diagnostic criteria for SCI, diagnosis is difficult in patients presenting without predisposing factors and is often mistaken for transverse myelitis.

Delay in early diagnosis contributes to the high case fatality rate of SCI.

This case highlights the importance of including SCI in the differential of a patient with acute paraparesis even in the absence of co-existing risk factors.

When most clinicians think of subarachnoid hemorrhages (SAH), they think of “most severe headache of my life” as the most common chief complaint. However, it is only reported in about 70% of patients with SAH. Other symptoms may include nausea and/or vomiting, stiff neck, visual disturbances, loss of consciousness, weakness, and seizures. Patient history may involve previous SAH, hypertension, oral contraceptives in women, recent trauma, family history of intracranial aneurysms, history of smoking, alcohol, and drug use. We compared processes for identifying patients with suspected LVO who may be candidates for endovascular therapy (EVT) at non-EVT hospitals and the criteria for interfacility transport to Comprehensive Stroke Centers (CSC) for potential EVT. "Advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs), including gene therapy, cell therapy, and tissue engineering products, represent a paradigm shift in health care as they have great potential for preventing and treating many diseases (Food and Drug Administration (FDA), 2013). By way of example, only 367 (8.0%) of the 4,603 rare diseases and conditions listed by the NIH Genetic and Rare Diseases Information Center had at least one FDA-approved drug therapy in early 2018. An estimated 3,038 (66.0%) of those rare diseases and conditions are congenital and genetic diseases that could potentially be treated by gene therapy. There are already ATMPs under …
