Background/Objectives: Statins are currently one of the most commonly used cholesterol-lowering drugs. In recent years, in addition to their well-known effects on the cardiovascular system, statins have been shown to exert beneficial effects in the progression of various neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases. Methods: In this study, the effects of lovastatin on the function of α7-nicotinic acetylcholine (nACh) receptors expressed in rat hippocampus and Xenopus oocytes were investigated. One of the most daunting challenges of the industrial world is air pollution. Within this broad spectrum, there is an inhalable particle group named PM2.5, which contains black carbon. Background: The incidence of stroke after pulmonary thrombectomy (PT) remains unknown. Given the incidence of patent foramen ovale (PFO) of 25% in autopsy studies, the concern for paradoxical embolus in this patient population warrants evaluation of periprocedural management.

Methods: We queried the EPIC EHR at Virtua Health in New Jersey for all patients who underwent PT from 2021-2025, categorized by utilization of the Inari Flowtriever system or the Penumbra thrombectomy device. We assessed post-PT cerebrovascular accident (CVA), PFO presence by transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE), and gender via descriptive statistics. We report the case of a 22-year-old female who presented with dizziness and vomiting after recent cervical manipulation who was diagnosed with a dissection of the vertebral artery. Dizziness can have a variety of causes including vascular etiologies, cerebellar and brainstem lesions, ocular problems, trauma, and others. In the setting of a known trauma and acute vestibular symptoms, it is prudent to consider vascular injuries.

BACKGROUND: Stroke leads to complex chronic structural and functional brain changes that specifically affect motor outcomes. The brain predicted age difference (PAD) has emerged as a sensitive biomarker of both sensorimotor and cognitive function after stroke. Our previous study showed a higher global brain PAD associated with poorer motor function after stroke. However, the association between local stroke lesion load, regional brain age, and motor impairment is unclear. This study aimed to investigate the associations between focal lesion damage, regional brain PAD in both hemispheres, and motor outcomes in chronic stroke, and to identify key predictors of motor impairment.

BACKGROUND: Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) is a common spinal procedure with a well-established safety profile. While direct vertebral artery injury is rare and typically recognized intraoperatively, delayed posterior circulation stroke is an even less common but major complication. In patients with risk factors for vascular disease, vascular stress from surgical manipulation may predispose them to thromboembolic events that are not immediately apparent. Transient intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) changes may represent early, underrecognized indicators of such vascular compromise. Day and night neurobehavioral tests were performed for Spontaneously Hypertensive rats (SHR) and Wistar Kyoto rats (WKY) to establish an optimal testing window. Also, blood–brain barrier (BBB) integrity in brain areas related to cognition was measured to determine strain-specific differences. Six months old male SHR and WKY were randomly divided into day (i.e., 9–11 a.m.) and nighttime (i.e., 7–9 p.m.) testing regimen. Neurobehavioral tests included: Y-maze spontaneous alternation, open field, novel object recognition (NOR), and tail suspension test (TST). Background: Atrial fibrillation is a well-established risk factor for cardioembolic stroke, with anticoagulation significantly reducing this risk. However, breakthrough ischemic strokes can still occur in anti-coagulated patients, with an estimated annual incidence of 1-2% despite appropriate direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) therapy. These rare but consequential events challenge clinicians to maintain high diagnostic vigilance, especially in patients presenting with atypical or subtle neurological symptoms. Here, we present a case of an embolus in a patient on long-term rivaroxaban therapy, underscoring a vital clinical teaching point: therapeutic anticoagulation does not eliminate stroke risk, and homonymous hemianopsia may be the only presenting feature. …

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Elderly patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) face a disproportionately high burden of morbidity and mortality. While endovascular coiling is often favored in this population, direct comparisons with surgical clipping are limited. We conducted a meta-analysis to compare outcomes of clipping versus coiling in SAH patients aged ≥ 60 years.

Background: Patients with intracranial internal carotid artery (ICA) aneurysms that are not amenable to treatments like coiling, stenting, or clipping have limited treatment options. One option is vascular bypass of the aneurysm to introduce a stable route for cerebral perfusion, which can be performed using the superficial temporal artery (STA) or alternatively radial artery (RA) or saphenous vein (SV) grafts, among other vessels.

Background: Delirium affects approximately 59% of hospitalized patients with intracerebral hemorrhage and is associated with poor outcomes. Sleep-wake cycle disturbances are hypothesized to contribute to delirium development, particularly in neurointensive care settings where frequent sleep interruptions occur.

Methods: We conducted a scoping review of literature published between 2014-2024 using PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, and Cochrane databases. Studies were included if they observed sleep in adult stroke populations.

Dural venous sinus thrombosis (DVST) is a rare but potentially life-threatening condition that accounts for approximately 0.5–1% of all strokes. It is often associated with hypercoagulable states, infections, malignancies, and systemic inflammatory diseases. Clinical presentations are highly variable and can include headaches, focal neurological deficits, seizures, and altered mental status. Given its nonspecific symptoms, DVST remains a diagnostic challenge. This report presents a case of a young male who developed a persistent headache and had transient speech changes and was ultimately diagnosed with a dural venous sinus thrombosis.

BACKGROUND: With a focus on metabolism-related cardiovascular diseases, the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index has been used as a surrogate marker of insulin resistance in the prognosis of coronary heart disease. However, the prognostic role of the TyG index in patients with elevated triglycerides, still requires further research. Methods: We queried the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization registry for patients receiving ECPR (2020-2024). INTRODUCTION: Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a chronic cerebrovascular disorder characterized by progressive stenosis or occlusion of the internal carotid arteries and the development of collateral moyamoya vessels. Surgical revascularization is commonly used to prevent future ischemic events in ischemic-type MMD, but there remains a high rate of stroke perioperatively. Cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are congenital vascular anomalies that can lead to severe complications, including hemorrhage and neurological deficits. This study compares the outcomes of microsurgical resection and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for SM grade I and II AVMs. Out of a large multicenter registry, we identified 180 matched patients with SM grade I and II AVMs treated with either microsurgical resection or SRS between 2010 and 2023. BACKGROUND: Craniocervical junction dural arteriovenous fistulas (CCJ-DAVFs) are rare and complex vascular malformations that are challenging to diagnose and treat. This study aims to compare surgical and endovascular treatments for CCJ-DAVFs through a systematic review and meta-analysis.

METHODS: A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted according to the PRISMA guidelines. PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases were searched from inception to July 2024.
