African-American men are more likely to develop and die from prostate cancer than are European-American men; yet, factors responsible for the racial disparity in incidence and mortality have not been elucidated. Socioeconomic disadvantage can lead to psychosocial stress and may be linked to negative lifestyle behaviors. Regardless of socioeconomic position, African-American men routinely experience racism-induced stress. We propose a theoretical framework for an association between psychosocial stress and prostate cancer. With the context of history and culture, we further propose that psychosocial stress may partially explain the variable incidence of prostate cancer between these diverse groups. Previous studies have shown that tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) can augment the antitumor effects of radiation, inhibiting tumor progression to a greater extent than either modality alone. However, nonspecific toxicities associated with TNF-α have limited its use as an adjuvant. This limitation is potentially resolved with the encapsulation of TNF-α in sterically stabilized, PEGylated liposomes (STEALTH®). Thus, the overall hypothesis of the research was that the combination of radiation with STEALTH® liposome encapsulated TNF-α (SL-TNF-α) will have greater efficacy and fewer dose-limiting side effects in the LS174T human colorectal tumor xenograft model compared to the combination of free TNF-α and …

Sistem Pakar Kanser Ovari atau OCES merupakan projek tahun akhir bagi memenuhi keperluan dalam penganugerahan ljazah Sarjana Muda Sains Komputer. OCES merupakan sistem pakar yang cuba bertindak untuk menggantikan pakar pada bila-bila masa yang diperlukan dengan melakukan diagnosis ke atas pesakit kanser ovari berdasarkan gejala-gejala yang ada pada pesakit. The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is closely associated with nasopharyngcal carcinoma (NPC). The role(s) of EBV in NPC remains unclear but antibodies to two EBV proteins namely the viral capsid antigen (VCA) and early antigen (EA), are clinically useful diagnostic markers of NPC. The NPC scenario in Malaysia has been based on studies done on West Malaysian patients but not much has been described for NPC in Sarawak, East Malaysia. In this study, 164 NPC sera from newly histologically confirmed NPC patients were collected from the Radiotherapy Unit of Kuching General Hospital, Sarawak prior to radiotherapy.
